Large second-order optical nonlinearities of s-triazine derivatives: View from micro molecules to macro crystals

Three s-triazine derivatives have been synthesized and their structures been de-termined. These are Compound I: 2,4-dimethyl-6-(p-N,N-dimethylaminostyryl)-s-triazine (abbre-viated to NMe-1), Compound II: 2,4-dimethyl-6-(p-N,N-diethylaminostyryl)-s-triazine (to NEt-1), and Compound III: 2-methyl-4,6-bis(p-N,N-dimethylaminostyryl)-s-triazine (NMe-2). NMe-1 and NEt-1 molecules belong to the D-π-A type with a one-dimensional charge-transfer character. NMe-1 crystallizes to centrosymmetric P1 space group, while NEt-1 to non-centrosymmetric polar Cc space group with all of the molecular charge-transfer axes taking the same orientation. Under the irradiation of 1064 nm fundamental laser, NEt-1 powder crystals radiate a 2-order harmonic light with an intensity 46.8 times that of urea. The Λ typed NMe-2 molecule, which has a two-dimensional charge-transfer character, crystallizes to polar P21 space group. Its powder crystals exhibit a 2-order harmonic intensity 46.2 times that of urea. The quantum chemical cal-culations and tensor analyses have been carried out to reveal the dependence of the macro 2-order nonlinear optical (NLO) efficiency on the micro 2-order NLO coefficients (β) and on the crystalline packing styles.

Correlation of zeros of automorphic L-functions

We compute the n-level correlation of normalized nontrivial zeros of a product of Lfunctions: L(s, π1) … L(s, π k ), where πj, j = 1, …, k, are automorphic cuspidal representations of GL mj (?A). Here the sizes of the groups GL mj (?A) are not necessarily the same. When these L(s, π j ) are distinct, we prove that their nontrivial zeros are uncorrelated, as predicted by random matrix theory and verified numerically. When L(s, π j ) are not necessarily distinct, our results will lead to a proof that the n-level correlation of normalized nontrivial zeros of the product L-function follows the superposition of Gaussian Unitary Ensemble (GUE) models of individual L-functions and products of lower rank GUEs. The results are unconditional when m 1, …, m k ? 4, but are under Hypothesis H in other cases.

Caveolin-1 is regulated by estrogen in vascular smooth muscle ***,a selectiveestrogen receptor modulator that possibly has cardioprotective properties without an increased risk of canceror other side effects of estrogen,may be used in women with risk of coronary artery ***,therelationship between raloxifene and caveolin-1 is still ***,this study was designed to seewhether raloxifene regulates caveolin-1 expression and if so,whether such regulation is mediated by *** aortic smooth muscle cells were cultured in the absence or presence of raloxifene (10-8to10-6M) for 12 or 24 *** mRNA and protein levels of caveolin-1 were increased significantly after 24 htreatment with *** increases were inhibited by estrogen receptor antagonist ICI 182780 (10-5M).Results of this study suggest that raloxifene stimulates caveolin-1 transcription and translation throughestrogen receptor mediated mechanisms.

Relationship Between Thermal shock Behavior and Cutting Performance of a Functionally Gradient Ceramic Tool

Based on the deep understanding of the requirements of cutting conditions on ceramic tools, a design model for functionally gradient ceramic tool materials with symmetrical composition distribution was presented in this paper, according to which an Al 2O 3-TiC functionally gradient ceramic tool material FG-1 was synthesized by powder-laminating and uniaxially hot-pressing technique. The thermal shock resistance of the Al 2O 3-TiC functionally gradient ceramics FG-1 was evaluated by water quenching and subsequent three-point bending tests of flexural strength diminution. Comparisons were made with results from parallel experiments conducted using a homogeneous Al 2O 3-TiC ceramics. Functionally gradient ceramics exhibited higher retained strength under all thermal shock temperature differences compared to homogeneous ceramics, indicating the higher thermal shock resistance. The experimental results were supported by the calculation of transient thermal stress field. The cutting performance of the Al 2O 3-TiC functionally gradient ceramic tool FG-1 was also investigated in rough turning the cylindrical surface of exhaust valve of diesel engine in comparison with that of a common Al 2O 3-TiC ceramic tool LT55. The results indicated that the tool life of FG-1 increased by 50 percent over that of LT55. Tool life of LT55 was mainly controlled by thermal shock cracking which was accompanied by mechanical shock. While tool life of FG-1 was mainly controlled by mechanical fatigue crack extension rather than thermal shock cracking, revealing the less thermal shock susceptibility of functionally gradient ceramics than that of common ceramics.

Progress in the studies of chirality in atomic nuclei at iThemba LABs is *** regions of chirality,around mass 80 and 190 have been discovered using the AFRODITE array,specifically in the nuclei^(74)As,^(78,80,82)Br,^(81)Kr,and^(193,194,198)*** phenomena have been observed,including multiple chiral bands in the same nucleus,the coexistence of octupole correlations and nuclear chirality,and the coexistence of pseudo spin and nuclear *** best example of chiral degeneracy to date was found in ^(194)*** level scheme of ^(106)Ag has been revisited and interpreted in terms of two-and four-quasiparticle *** using the particle-rotor model have shown that the fingerprints of chirality in the two-quasiparticle system only can occur in an idealised model *** systems with a higher number of quasiparticles,the calculations showed that nuclear chirality can persist.

Modeling analysis and optimization design of the thermostatical control system of laser instrument of the semiconductor

Influence produced by the heat effect at work of the laser instrument crystal of the semiconductor, the text designs a kind of temperature control system to the crystal of the laser instrument, using the thought and method of the classical control theory to analyze this temperature control system, and establishes mathematics model. According to mathematics model the text demonstrated the system at s field and time- area, and proposed optimizing basis to the total mark of proportion and differential parameter to con- troller PID, thus proposed a kind of temperature control scheme. And the thermostatically system is simulated by MATLAB.

Introduction This article is based on the experience of teaching extensive reading classes for science students in our school. It describes a common model for reading classes. This model shows the disadvantage that readers tend to understand what they read mainly by way of listening to the teacher’s explanation, but not by reading for themselves. It has given rise to the particular problem of whether students need a full explanation before achieving good comprehension. The article suggests that readers have to work themselves to improve their reading ability and skills. some techniques for teaching a reading class are suggested.

Male, female and the environment form a compound ecosystm, in which the harmony between genders, nature and society is the key element to maintain the ecosystem balance. Hereinto the harmony between the quantity, quality and the developing situation of genders is the primary element to keep the ecosystem concordant. The first reason is special society and genders are always built upon the ground of special natural surroundings and special regional condition. The second reason is special social culture will shape the construction of genders and form the special gender culture, which will react to the social surroundings and culture. The third reason is that gender ecosystem is enslaved to nature and society, which balance needs both the equilibrium of gender quantity and the equality of gender quality. In short, the gender ecosystem is a changing and evaluative system, which always move from unbalance to balance and from lower patterns to upper patterns .In this ecosystem the interdependence, energy change and compensation between genders and surroundings has the function to keep the system evolute. so, it will bring severe aftermath when the gender ecosystem loses its balance. In order to keep the gender ecosystem’s balance and to avoid the negative aftermath, measures should be taken to change the traditional bearing notion such as "male is better" and to create new gender ecosystem criterion. The available measures include making government policy and social intervention to build a harmonious and balanced gender ecosystem.
