AICAR-based exercise mimetic alleviates aging-induced memory impairment through activating AMPK and improving mitochondrial quality control

Growing evidence suggests that exercise can provide neuroprotection by improving mitochondrial quality control (MQC) on the aged brain. Adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP)-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling responsiveness declines with aging. However， whether AMPK plays a role in the exercise-mediated improvement of memory and MQC in the aged hippocampus remains to be established. AICAR (5-Aminoimidazole 4-carboxamide ribonucleoside)， a pharmacological agonist of AMPK， has been proposed to be an exercise mimetic recently. However， it has not been clarified whether AICAR could mimic the effects of exercise on the aged hippocampus through improvement of MQC. In this study， AICAR (AMPK agonist) and Compound C (AMPK inhibitor) were used to investigate if AMPK plays a key role in exercise-induced improvement of MQC and if AICAR could act as an exercise mimetic through improvement of MQC in aged hippocampus. Both exercise and AICAR improved the memory of aged mice and increased AMPK phosphorylation in the aged hippocampus. Exercise， but not AICAR， improved mitochondrial respiratory function in the aged hippocampus and increased the Microtubule associated protein 1 light chain 3 (LC3) II/LC3 I ratio and the protein expression of LC3 II and Autophagy Related Protein 7 (ATG7) in the lysate of whole hippocampal tissue. Both exercise and AICAR increased the ratio of LC3 II/LC3 I and the protein expression of LC3 II in the mitochondrial fractions of the hippocampus. Regarding mitochondrial dynamics， neither exercise training nor AICAR changed the protein level of Mitofusin2 (Mfn2). Exercise， but not AICAR， increased the protein level of Dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1). Furthermore， both exercise training and AICAR increased the protein level of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α)， a modulator of mitochondrial biogenesis. Limits of Uneven Battery Power in Modular Multilevel Converter-based Battery Energy Storage Systems

For modular multilevel converter-based battery energy storage systems (MMC-BESS), uneven power among batteries of SMs will be deduced by battery aging, battery fault, etc., which will degrade performance and even lead to system failure. For maintaining the balance of capacitor voltage, this paper analyzes the limits of the uneven power of batteries, which are presented as the current limits in this paper. According to analysis, an analytical method is proposed that only the dc and fundamental frequency components of the arm current are used to calculate current limits. With the current limits it is able to evaluate the reasonability of power distribution among batteries. Meanwhile, increase of fundamental frequency component will enhance the current limits, and the dc component determines the size relationship between the absolute values of the upper and lower current limits. Finally, simulation model and experiment prototype are built for verifying the theoretical analysis and current limits calculation method, and satisfactory results are provided.

Adsorption is one of the most feasible and effective methods to alleviate the volatile organic compounds(VOCs)***,the mixture effect and mechanism for competitive adsorption of VOCs on zeolites are barely *** this study,toluene,acetone,and ethyl acetate as prevalent VOCs species were removed by four potential zeolites(13X,USY,Beta,ZSM-5)in both single-and multi-component *** structure-property relationship between adsorbate-adsorbent pairs was revealed by X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,energy dispersive spectrometer,X-ray fluorescence,N_(2) adsorption and density function theory *** molecular polarity and volatility of VOCs species played key roles in adsorption and the dynamic uptakes were generally listed as follows:ethyl acetate>toluene>*** for the above VOCs mixtures,13X zeolite selectively adsorbed oxygenated VOCs rather than *** contrast,USY exhibited a preference to trap *** acetate could be readily enriched by ZSM-5 and Beta *** possible explanations and implications are discussed based on the subtle change in electron *** results obtained are vital for understanding the mixture effect of VOCs adsorption and may guide the selection of proper adsorbent for real applications.

Visualisation and Heat Transfer Performance of Mini-Channel Flat Heat Pipe with a Binary Mixture

To unravel the intricacies of two-phase gas-liquid flow characteristics and heat transfer behavior,an array mini-channel gravity plate heat pipe(AMGPHP)is proposed in this work,which allows for observing the internal changes in the state of the working *** flow patterns such as pool flow,columnar flow,and slug flow,are experimentally explored and analyzed in *** is found that the optimal volume fill ratio is 20%by utilizing start-up time and thermal resistance as performance evaluation *** this fill ratio,a medium optimization strategy by blending ethanol within R141b is proposed and *** comparison to pure working fluids,the heat transfer performance of AMGFHP in the binary fluid has been significantly augmented due to temperature and concentration shifts resulting from disparate boiling *** the 10%volume fraction ethanol blending condition,the equivalent thermal conductivity of the heat pipe is dramatically elevated,with a value of 3110 W/(m·℃),along with the reduction of the minimum start-up power to 4 *** general,applying such a medium to heat pipes has considerable potential in practical applications.

Multi-population particle swarm optimization algorithm for automatic design of steel frames

Steel structures are widely used;however,their traditional design method is a trial-and-error procedure which is neither efficient nor cost ***,a multi-population particle swarm optimization(MPPSO)algorithm is developed to optimize the weight of steel frames according to standard design *** are made to improve the algorithm performances including the constraint-based strategy,piecewise mean learning strategy and multi-population cooperative *** proposed method is tested against the representative frame taken from American standards and against other steel frames matching Chinese design *** related parameter influences on optimization results are *** the representative frame,MPPSO can achieve greater efficiency through reduction of the number of analyses by more than 65% and can obtain frame with the weight for at least 2.4%lighter.A similar trend can also be observed in cases subjected to Chinese design *** addition,a migration interval of 1 and the number of populations as 5 are recommended to obtain better MPPSO *** purpose of the study is to propose a method with high efficiency and robustness that is not confined to structural scales and design *** aims to provide a reference for automatic structural optimization design problems even with dimensional *** proposed method can be easily generalized to the optimization problem of other structural systems.

Fleshy fruits become more susceptible to pathogen infection when they ripen;for example,changes in cell wall properties related to softening make it easier for pathogens to infect *** need for high-quality fruit has driven extensive research on improving pathogen resistance in important fruit crops such as tomato(Solanum lycopersicum).In this review,we summarize current progress in understanding how changes in fruit properties during ripening affect infection by *** changes affect physical barriers that limit pathogen entry,such as the fruit epidermis and its cuticle,along with other defenses that limit pathogen growth,such as preformed and induced defense *** plant immune system also protects ripening fruit by recognizing pathogens and initiating defense responses involving reactive oxygen species production,mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling cascades,and jasmonic acid,salicylic acid,ethylene,and abscisic acid *** phytohormones regulate an intricate web of transcription factors(TFs)that activate resistance mechanisms,including the expression of pathogenesis-related *** tomato,ripening regulators,such as RIPENING INHIBITOR and NON_RIPENING,not only regulate ripening but also influence fruit defenses against ***,members of the ETHYLENE RESPONSE FACTOR(ERF)family play pivotal and distinct roles in ripening and defense,with different members being regulated by different *** also discuss the interaction of ripening-related and defense-related TFs with the Mediator transcription *** the ripening processes in climacteric and non-climacteric fruits share many similarities,these processes have broad applications across fruiting *** research on the individual contributions of ERFs and other TFs will inform efforts to diminish disease susceptibility in ripe fruit,satisfy the growing demand for high-quality fruit and decrease food waste and related economic losses.

Remodeling the tumor microenvironment by vascular normalization and GSH-depletion for augmenting tumor immunotherapy

Remodeling tumor microenvironment(TME)is a very promising and effective strategy to enhance the effects of chemotherapy,photodynamic therapy,and *** of tumor vasculature as well as depletion of glutathione(GSH)can improve the ***,we developed a novel therapeutic nanoparticle functional enzyme ultra QDAU5 nanoparticles(FEUQ Nps)based on a fluorescence-on and releasable strategy by combining a vascular normalization inducer,a GSH depleting agent,and an activated *** which the cleavage of disulfide bonds releases active molecules that induce vascular normalization and improve the hypoxic *** addition,it may deplete GSH in cancer cells,thus inducing the production of reactive oxygen species(ROS)and lipid peroxide(LPO)and promoting iron *** may also lead to endoplasmic stress and release of calmodulin,which activates the immune ***,quenched fluorophores are turned on in the presence of galactosidase(GLU)for tumor-specific *** summary,we developed novel therapeutic agent nanoparticles with the function of vascular normalization inducers to achieve specific labeling of hepatocellular carcinoma while exerting efficient antitumor effects in vivo.
