A critical review of ash slagging mechanisms and viscosity measurement for low-rank coal and bio-slags

Gasification or combustion of coal and biomass is the most important form of power generation ***,the use of coal/biomass at high temperatures has an inherent problem related to the ash *** formation of ash leads to a problematic phenomenon called *** is the accumulation of molten ash on the walls of the furnace,gasifier,or boiler and is detrimental as it reduces the heat transfer rate,and the combustion/gasification rate of unburnt carbon,causes mechanical failure,high-temperature corrosion and on occasions,superheater *** improve the gasifier/combustor facility,it is very important to understand the key ash properties,slag characteristics,viscosity and critical viscosity *** paper reviews the content,compositions,and melting characteristics of ashes in differently ranked coal and biomass,and discusses the formation mechanism,characteristics,and structure of *** particular,this paper focuses on low-rank coal and biomass that have been receiving increased attention ***,it reviews the available methodologies and formulae for slag viscosity measurement/prediction and summarizes the current limitations and potential ***,it discusses the slagging behavior of different ranks of coal and biomass by examining the applicability of the current viscosity measurement methods to these fuels,and the viscosity prediction models and factors that affect the slag *** review shows that the existing viscosity models and slagging indices can only satisfactorily predict the viscosity and slagging propensity of high-rank coals but cannot predict the slagging propensity and slag viscosity of low-rank coal,and especially biomass ashes,even if they are limited to a particular composition ***,there is a critical need for the development of an index,or a model or even a measurement method,which can predict/measure the slagging propensity and slag viscosity correctly for all low-rank co

Implementation of Efficient B2G and V2G in Practical Cases

In this paper, building to grid(B2G) and vehicle to grid(V2G) have been defined with clear and practical understanding. Both of them are new generation technologies which are the essential part of smart city living and crowd energy clustering. Firstly, an in-detailed overview has been provided with an introduction to B2G and V2G followed by a historical overview and theoretical analysis in respect to smart city planning. Next, a review is conducted on current and previous smart living research, which deals with B2G and V2G. Efficient B2G and V2G implementations in practical cases then have been discussed. Lastly, both of these technical prospects have been analyzed in crowd energy diagram.

Cu-doped nanocomposite Pr_(2)Fe_(14)B/α-Fe ribbons with high(BH)max

The melt-spun ribbons of nominal composition Pr_(9)Fe_(84.2-x)B_(6.2)P_(0.3)Zr_(0.3)Cu_(x)(x=0,0.5,1,2)were prepared at wheel speeds of 21 m·s^(-1),27 m·s^(-1),30 m·s^(-1),and 33 m·s^(-1).The XRD patterns show that as the wheel speed increases,the crystallinity of the 2:14:1 hard phase decreases,while that of theα-Fe soft phase ***(BH)_(max),remanence,and coercivity are improved from 63 kJ·m^(-3),0.85 T,and 515 kA·m^(-1)for the Cu-free ribbons to 171 kJ·m^(-3),1.08 T,and684 kA·m^(-1)with x=*** high squareness ratio of J_(r)/J_(s)~0.82 at 0.5 at.%Cu(27 m·s^(-1))indicates strong exchange coupling due to small grain sizes of 15 nm and 30 nm for soft and hard magnetic phases,*** SEM images revealed smooth morphology and uniform element distribution at 0.5 at.%Cu(27 m·s^(-1)),contributing to the high magnetic *** low recoil permeability(μrec)value of 5.466×10^(-4)T/kA·m^(-1)to 1.970×10^(-4)T/kA·m^(-1)confirms the strong exchange coupling with x=0.5(27m·s^(-1)).The initial magnetization curves show that the coercivity mechanism of the Cu-free alloy evolves from the nucleation of the reverse domain to the domain wall pinning as the wheel speed increases,resulting in a high coercivity value of 818 kA·m^(-1)(33 m·s^(-1)).Conversely,for the Cu-added alloy,the coercivity mechanism changes from pinning to the nucleation of the reverse domain from low to high wheel speed.

Leptin, an adipocyte-derived hormone, serves numerous physiological functions in the body, particularly during puberty and reproduction. The exact mechanism by which leptin activates the gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) neurons to trigger puberty and reproduction remains unclear. Given the widespread distribution of leptin receptors in the body, both central and peripheral mechanisms involving the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis have been hypothesized. Leptin is necessary for normal reproductive function, but when present in excess, it can have detrimental effects on the male reproductive system. Human and animal studies point to leptin as a link between infertility and obesity, a suggestion that is corroborated by findings of low sperm count, increased sperm abnormalities, oxidative stress, and increased leptin levels in obese men. In addition, daily leptin administration to normal-weight rats has been shown to result in similar abnormalities in sperm parameters. The major pathways causing these abnormalities remain unidentified;however, these adverse effects have been attributed to leptin-induced increased oxidative stress because they are prevented by concurrently administering melatonin. Studies on leptin and its impact on sperm function are highly relevant in understanding and managing male infertility, particularly in overweight and obese men.

EFFECT OF GAMMA RAYS IN THE PREPARATION OF POLYMER AND HYDROGEL FROM ACRYLAMIDE MONOMER

The formation of polymer and hydrogel from aqueous solutions having 20, 30 and 40% concentrations ofacrylamide monomer by γ-ray irradiation processing in the dose range 0.06-30 kGy using a Co-60 source and theircharacterization have been observed. Polymer conversion and gel fraction are found to depend on radiation doses. Polymerconversion increases with the increase of dose, depending on the solution concentration, where maximum conversion isachieved at 0.18, 0.16 and 0.10 kGy for 20%, 30% and 40% concentrations, respectively. On the other hand, gel fractionincreases with dose from the gel point (0.12 kGy) for all concentrations, where 100% conversion of gel occurs at doses≥5 kGy. Tensile strength, viscosity and molecular weight (M_w) of polymer samples increase with both the dose and theconcentration, showing a high value of M_w up to≈10~8. Swelling of hydrogels under water with respect to time varies due tothe variation of cross-linking density formed in the gels and the maximum swelling mainly occurs within 24 h. A remarkable change of surface morphology reveals characteristic features of monomer, polymer and hydrogel films.

Influence of accelerated curing on the compressive strength of polymer-modified concrete

In recent building practice,rapid construction is one of the principal ***,in designing concrete structures,compressive strength is the most significant of all *** 3-d and 7-d compressive strength reflects the strengths at early phases,the ultimate strength is *** effort has been made in this study to develop mathematical models for predicting compressive strength of concrete incorporating ethylene vinyl acetate(EVA)at the later ***-Smirnov(KS)goodness-of-fit test was used to examine distribution of the *** compressive strength of EVA-modified concrete was studied by incorporating various concentrations of EVA as an admixture and by testing at ages of 28,56,90,120,210,and 365 *** accelerated compressive strength at 3.5 hours was considered as a reference strength on the basis of which all the specified strengths were predicted by means of linear regression *** on the results of KS goodness-of-fit test,it was concluded that KS test statistics value(D)in each case was lower than the critical value 0.521 for a significance level of 0.05,which demonstrated that the data was normally *** on the results of compressive strength test,it was concluded that the strength of EVA-modified specimens increased at all ages and the optimum dosage of EVA was achieved at 16%***,it was concluded that predicted compressive strength values lies within a 6%difference from the actual strength values for all the mixes,which indicates the practicability of the regression *** research work may help in understanding the role of EVA as a viable material in polymer-based cement composites.

Extraction and characterization of alumina nanopowders from aluminum dross by acid dissolution process

A significant amount of aluminum dross is available as a waste in foundry industries in Bangladesh. In this study, alumina was ex- tracted from aluminum dross collected from two foundry industries situated in Dhamrai and Manikgang, near the capital city, Dhaka. Alu- minum dross samples were found to approximately contain 75wt% A1203 and 12wt% SIO2. An acid dissolution process was used to recover the alumina value from the dross. The effects of various parameters, e.g., temperature, acid concentration, and leaching time, on the extrac- tion of alumina were studied to optimize the dissolution process. First, AI（OH）3 was produced in the form of a gel. Calcination of the AI（OH）3 gel at 1000℃, 1200℃, and 1400℃ for 2 h produced O-AlcOa, （t~＋O）-A1203, and u-alumina powder, respectively. Thermal charac- terization of the AI（OH）3 gel was performed by thermogravimetric/differential thermal analysis （TG/DTA） and differential scanning calo- rimetry （DSC）. The phases and crystallite size of the alumina were determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The dimensions of the alumina were found to be on the nano level. The chemical compositions of the aluminum dross and alumina were determined by X-ray fluorescence （XRF） spectroscopy. The microstructure and morphology of the alumina were studied with scanning electron microscopy. The purity of the alumina extracted in this study was found to be 99.0%. Thus, it is expected that the obtained alumina powders can be potentially utilized as biomaterials.
