Phase change material-based rooftop on public transport for thermal management

Phase change materials(PCMs)are used in buildings and automobiles to control the interior temperature,following to their high thermal storage capacity and energy *** summer,controlling the interior temperature of vehicles can be difficult,especially in cities where public transportation is excessively ***,heating,ventilation,and air-conditioning systems are included to provide thermal comfort inside vehicles,but they use a significant amount fuel,which ultimately have negative impacts on the *** this study,a prototype bus model was developed from an actual bus and scaled-down to 1/20th size.A bulb was used as an internal heat source and experiments were conducted under the sun in summer to reflect scenarios of buses stuck in *** cases were considered by opening and closing the windows and doors and placing the PCM layer on the roof and covering the *** results demonstrate that when the PCM is used to cover the bulb and roof,the interior temperature can drop to the ambient temperature and remain there for a longer period of *** fact,keeping the windows and doors open results in a significantly lower indoor temperature than when they are *** results show that the heat from the engine makes a major contribution to raising the temperature inside of the *** results from the opened cases can be applied to various forms of public transportation worldwide,but for many closed vehicles,additional ducting systems integrated with PCM may be the best option.

Comparative Study between General Anesthesia versus General Anesthesia Combined with Thoracic Epidural Analgesia on Cytokine Response in Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy Patients

Background and Objectives: The main benefits of laparoscopic surgery in comparison to open surgery involve the rapid discharge from recovery room, decreased postoperative hospital stays, reduced postoperative discomfort, easier getting back to work and faster return to ordinary daily life as well as cosmetic surgical wounds. The anesthesia type has an essential role in attenuation of the surgical stress and achievement of these advantages. We aimed to determine the outcome of giving general anesthesia in conjunction with thoracic epidural analgesia (TEA) compared to general anesthesia alone on stress response to surgery and anesthesia by investigating cytokine reaction (interleukin 6 and 8 levels), hemodynamic changes (BP, HR, RR, SPO2), and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) scores postoperatively in patients subjected for laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Methods: This study included 40 patients aged 20 - 60 years old with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status (ASA) I and II. They were planned for laparoscopic cholecystectomy at Aswan University Hospital from April 2017 to March 2018. They were randomly allocated into two groups. Group A (n. 20) received general anesthesia only and Group B (n. 20) received general anesthesia in conjunction with thoracic epidural analgesia using fentanyl and bupivacaine in the epidural catheter. Hepatocellular carcinoma in Egypt: A single center study over a decade

AIM： To identify the trend, possible risk factors and any pattern change of hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC） in Egypt over a decade. METHODS： all HCC patients attending Cairo Liver Center between January 1993 and December 2002, were enrolled in the study. Diagnosis of HCC was based on histopathological examination and/or detection of hepatic focal lesions by two imaging techniques plus α-fetoprotein level above 200 ng/mL. The duration of the study was divided into two periods of 5 years each; period Ⅰ （1993-1997） and period Ⅱ （1998-2002）. Trend, demographic features of patients （age, gender, and residence）, risk factors （HBsAg, HCV-Ab, schistosomiasis and others） and pattern of the focal lesions were compared between the two periods. Logistic regression model was fitted to calculate the adjusted odds ratios for the potential risk factors. The population attributable risk percentage was calculated to estimate the proportion of HCC attributed to hepatitis B and C viral infections. RESULTS： Over a decade, 1 328 HCC patients out of 22 450 chronic liver disease （CLD） patients were diagnosed with an overall proportion of 5.9%. The annual proportion of HCC showed a significant rising trend from 4.0% in 1993 to 7.2% in 2002 （P = 0.000）. A significant increase in male proportion from 82.5% to 87.6% （P = 0.009）; M/F from 5：1 to 7：1 and a slight increase of the predominant age group （40-59 years） from 62.6% to 66.8% （P = 0.387）in periods Ⅰ and Ⅱ respectively, reflecting a shift to younger age group. In the bivariate analysis, HCC was significantly higher in rural residents, patients with history of schistosomiasis and/or blood transfusion. Yet, after adjustment, these variables did not have a significant risk for development of HCC. There was a significant decline of HBsAg from 38.6% to 20.5% （P = 0.000）, and a slight increase of HCV-Ab from 85.6% to 87.9% in periods I and II respectively. Characterization of Radiation Prepared Copolymer and Studies of Their Biodegradability

Blends of biodegradable copolymer based on starch, poly lactic acid (PLA), poly vinyl alcohol (PVA) and natural rubber (NR) have been prepared. Gamma radiation induced synthesis and modification of polymer hydrogel was studied. The polymer blends have been chemically surface modified by glycerol. The modified polymer blends have been investigated for swelling ratio, tensile strength and 9 scanning electron microscopy. The swelling ratio of polymer blends increased significantly after surface modification with glycerol. The swelling of polymer was decreased as a function of (NR) content in polymer blends. The gel fraction (PVA-starch-PLA) and (PVA-starch-NR) blends increased by increasing the radiation doses (kGy) to reach the maximum amount of (~99%) and (~88.2%), respectively. Addition of 2.5% (PLA) led to greater increase of the swelling ratio than 10% (NR) to blends and the maximum swelling was found at dose (5 kGy). At concentration of glycerol (5.0% w/w), tensile strength decreased and elongation at break % increased. The polymers degrading microorganisms were isolated from soil samples. The degradation ability of the microbial isolates for each polymeric material was tested on agar plates. Among these isolates, the most efficient degrader isolates for prepared blends in MSM shaking flasks were selected and the degradation was confirmed by scanning electron microscopy.
