While capturing a real world scene using a common digital camera, due to limitations of the sensor dynamic range, we will not be able to capture the entire dynamic range of the some. This problem is evident while capturing a picture of a some which has both brightly and poorly illuminated regions. High Dynamic Range （HDR） imaging aims to recover the entire dynamic range of the scene by compositing multi-exposure images. Tone reproduction is required for displaying HDR images as the corresponding Low Dynamic Range（LDR） images on common displays. This paper discusses novel approaches to reconstruct LDR images directly from multi-exposure images. It is assumed that there is no knowledge of camera response function and other camera settings. At last, it is explained how this task can be achieved effectively for static and dynamic scenes.

We investigated the compositional and structural differences in sequences derived from different fractions of wheat genomic DNA obtained using methylation filtration and Cot fractionation. Comparative analysis of these sequences revealed large compositional and structural variations in terms of GC content, different structural elements including repeat sequences （e.g., transposable elements and simple sequence repeats）, protein coding genes, and non-coding RNA genes. A correlation between methylation status [determined on the basis of selective inclusion/ exclusion in methylation-filtered （MF） library] of different repeat elements and expression level was observed. The expression levels were determined by comparing MF sequences with expressed sequence tags （ESTs） available in the public domain. Only a limited overlap among ME high Cot （HC）, and ESTs was observed, suggesting that these sequences may largely either represent the low-copy non-transcribed sequences or include genes with low expression levels. Thus, these results indicated a need to study MF and HC sequences along with ESTs to fully appreciate complexity of wheat gene space.

Background and Objective: Leukemic microenvironment has a major role in the progression of leukemia. Leukemic cells can induce reversible changes in microenvironmental components, especially the stromal function which results in improved growth conditions for maintaining the malignant leukemic cells. This study aimed to investigate the survival advantage of leukemic cells over normal hematopoietic cells in stromal microenvironment in long term. Methods: The mice were injected intraperitoneally with N-N’ ethylnitrosourea (ENU) to induce leukemia; the mice received injection of normal saline were used as control. At 180 days after ENU induction, the mice were killed and the bone marrows were cultured for 19 days. Colony-forming assays were used to analyze the formation of various cell colonies. The expression of Sca-1, CD146, VEGFR2, CD95, pStat3, pStat5, and Bcl-xL in marrow cells were detected by flow cytometry. Results: Long-term leukemic bone marrow culture showed abnormal elongated stromal fibroblasts with almost absence of normal hematopoietic cells. Adherent cell colonies were increased, but CFU-F and other hematopoietic cell colonies were significantly decreased in leukemia group (P< 0.001). Primitive progenitor-specific Sca-1 receptor expression was decreased with subsequent increased expression of CD146 and VEGFR-2 in leukemic bone marrow cells. Decreased Fas antigen expression with increased intracellular pStat3, pStat5 and Bcl-xL proteins were observed in leukemic bone marrow cells. Conclusions: Stromal microenvironment shows altered morphology and decreased maturation in leukemia. Effective progenitor cells are decreased in leukemia with increased leukemia-specific cell population. Leukemic microenvironment plays a role in promoting and maintaining the leukemic cell proliferation and survivability in long term.

The ground state interaction of C-(4-chlorophenyl)-N-phenylnitrone (N1) with three different α, β-unsaturated ketones (K1 - K3) in very dilute solution (10-6 mol dm-3) has been noticed through charge transfer band formation in the visible region. The experimentally measured transition dipole, ground state resonance energy and formation constants of the complexes indicate interaction selectivity of the acyclic nitrone (N1) for the ketones. Molar absorptivity of the absorbing complexes were determined for all the three N1/K (1:1) interacting systems in toluene. Experimental findings were well rationalized with the help of electron density based global electrophilicity and nucleophilicity indices as well as with frontier molecular orbital calculations.

现代酸性矿山废水(AMD)环境被认为是地球早期环境的理想对应物。AMD的水环境具有金属含量高、pH低的特点,这与太古代-早元古代时期海洋的某些环境条件十分类似。然而,尽管AMD的环境条件恶劣,但仍然栖息着非常丰富的原核和真核微生物,在这其中那些嗜酸的、营光合作用的真核微生物类群(特别是Eugnamutabilis)更是引起众多科学家极大的研究兴趣。本文全面概述了在AMD环境中发现的真核微生物Euglenids种群的生物化学、生理学和生物地球化学特征,以及这些特征对于理解生命演化和早期地球环境条件等方面的指示性作用。Euglenids的细胞具备区域化功能,因而具备需氧和厌氧的蜡酯和甾醇的双生物合成途径,同时它们还可以形成生物膜,所有这些均使得Euglenids能够在早期地球极端恶劣的环境条件下生存并持续演化。在AMD酸性环境中发育的富铁叠层石、嗜酸微生物的脂类化合物及其碳同位素比值以及它们独特的生理和生化特征可用于阐述真核生物的演化、地球早期大气中氧气的产生、条带状富铁建造的形成以及地球早期的环境演化等。

The present paper demonstrates the effect of large deformations on the piezoelectric materials and structures under static and time varying loads. The energy based electromechanical piezoelectric constitutive law derived by Tiersten is adopted. For large deformation analysis of beams a part of Von Karman’s plate equation is considered. The displacement fields in finite element method (FEM) are based on the first order shear deformation theory. To analyze the nonlinear equilibrium equations an incremental iterative technique is employed. The control of the structure is demonstrated through a constant gain multiplier of the sensed voltage. Active control of a cantilever PVDF bimorph beam considering the nonlinear effects has been investigated.

The Nile is one of the longest rivers on the planet and an important freshwater source for the arid regions of Africa. It is also a river that is extensively affected by anthropogenic impact. This paper aims to provide an account of the social drivers that combine to cause extensive changes in the Nilotic environments. This paper is based on extensive review of literature backed up by ifeld research. The main focus is on the lower Nile, where the effects of anthropogenic disturbances are most prominent. We argue that the Nile Basin is characterized by interrelated and compound problems of resource management, and managing this river system effectively requires shifting the focus from water related problems to a basin wide management agenda. We contend that knowledge of environmental history is important for this agenda shift, and the idea of beneift sharing can aleviate the growing stress on this extremely sensitive arid river basin.

Transport properties of amorphous diamond-like-carbon (DLC) films of largely different thicknesses (90 and 600 nm) prepared by plasma-beam ion-injection deposition (PBIID) method have been reported. The thinner film (DLC1) shows metallic behavior above 200 K and a metal-insulator transition occurs below this temperature. The metallic resistivity (ρ) can be fitted with the relation ρ = ρ0 ′(sp2)Tβ (with β ~1). The much thicker film DLC2 (600 nm thick) is, however, a semiconductor over the temperature range 80-300 K showing large increase of resistivity below 150 K. The scanning electron micrographs and Raman spectroscopic studies revealed the presence of nanometer size diamond-like crystals embedded in the amorphous matrix. Presence of larger number of such nanodiamonds in DLC2 along with larger sp3/sp2 ratio observed from X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) study can be attributed to the higher resistivity (~1010 ohm cm) of DLC2 compared to that of thinner DLC1(~104 ohm cm). Low temperature semiconducting behavior of the thinner film can be explained by Mott variable range hopping (VRH) model while the resistivity of the thicker film is found to follow Mott small polaron hopping (SPH) model in the high temperature range. Thickness dependence of the DLC film conductivity has also been discussed.
