This paper describes a facile in‐situ synthesis of palladium nanoparticles （Pd NPs） on silica gel/polydopamine composite（SiO2/PDA） without any stabilizer or reducing agent. In this approach, palladium ions were adsorbed on SiO2/PDA surfaces by immersing the PDA‐coated SiO2 particles in a palladium plating bath. Then, they were reduced in situ to Pd nanoclusters by the reducing ability of PDA＇s N‐containing groups. The structure, morphology, and physicochemical properties of the synthesized nanocomposites were characterized by different analytical techniques such as high‐resolution transmission electron microscopy, field‐emission scanning electron microscopy, energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectroscopy, X‐ray diffraction analysis, X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma and Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy. The Pd NPs capped by the PDA groups had a strikingly small size（30–40 nm）. SiO2/PDA/Pd NPs exhibited high catalytic activ‐ity as a recyclable nanocatalyst in the aerobic oxidation of alcohols. Furthermore, recovery and multiple reuse of the catalyst revealed no detectable activity loss.

Objective:Since nursing is a performance-based profession,clinical learning environments play an important role in the acquisition of professional abilities and train nursing students to enter the nursing profession and become a registered *** study aimed to investigate the relations among professional identity,wellness,and future hope in nurse ***:A cross-sectional,analytic,descriptive,correlational study design was used to test these relations in the study where 210 nurse interns’students were selected using a convenience sampling from Zagazig University hospitals and Suez Canal University hospitals in *** questionnaires consisted of 4 parts,namely demographic characteristics,Professional Identity Scale for Nursing Students(PISNS),Holistic Health and Wellness Survey,and Hope ***:Less than half of the study sample had chosen nursing specialty by own will(43.8%),while slightly more than half of them had a"very good"graduation level,and had no nursing role *** lowest mean professional identity score was for independence in career choice while the highest was for social *** repor ted physical wellness mean-score was the least,while social wellness was the *** identity,wellness,and future hope scores differed significantly based on nurse interns’personal *** were statistically significant,positive,weak-to-moderate correlations among the scores of professional identity,wellness,and future hope;however,the"choice of nursing study by own will"was a statistically significant independent positive predictor of the scores of professional identity,wellness,and future ***:Nurse interns’professional identity,wellness,and future hope were positively ***,nurse interns’wellness was the lowest,and it should be fostered as it was the main predictor for future *** internship programs should be modulated to improve nurse interns’professional identity,par ticularly

In mammals,the livers regenerate after chemical injury or resection of hepatic lobe by *** liver regeneration is initiated after mass loss remains to be *** we report that following liver injury,activated platelets deploy SDF-1 and VEGF-A to stimulate CXCR7+liver sinusoidal endothelial cell(LSEC)and VEGFR1^(+)myeloid cell,orchestrating hepatic *** carbon tetrachloride injection or hepatectomy,platelets and CD11b+VEGFR1^(+)myeloid cells were recruited to LSECs,and liver regeneration in both models was impaired in thrombopoietin-deficient(Thpo^(−/−))mice repressing production of circulating *** impeded regeneration phenotype was recapitulated in mice with either conditional ablation of Cxcr7 in LSEC(Cxcr7iΔ/iΔ)or Vegfr1 in myeloid cell(Vegfr1^(lysM/lysM)).Both Vegfr1lysM/lysM and Cxcr7i^(Δ/iΔ)mice exhibited suppressed expression of hepatocyte growth factor and Wnt2,two crucial trophogenic angiocrine factors instigating hepatocyte *** note,administration of recombinant thrombopoietin restored the prohibited liver regeneration in the tested genetic *** such,our data suggest that platelets and myeloid cells jointly activate the vascular niche to produce pro-regenerative endothelial paracrine/angiocrine *** this‘hematopoietic–vascular niche’might help to develop regenerative therapy strategy for hepatic disorders.

Minimally invasive open dismembered pyeloplasty technique: Miniature incision, muscle-splitting dissection, and nopelvis reduction in children

Objective:To report the outcomes and complications of open dismembered Anderson-Hynes pyeloplasty with miniature incision in treating children’s ureteropelvic junction ***:Between March 2007 and April 2011,109 children with a mean age of 2 years and 8 months old with ureteropelvic junction obstruction underwent open dismembered *** manifestations,radiographic assessments,incision size,surgery time,hospital stay,and complication rate were *** patients had a documented ureteropelvic junction obstruction(having T1/2 more than 20 min in diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid[DTPA]scan)with symptomatic stenosis or decreased kidney function(differential function<40%).Pyeloplasty was done by a retroperitoneal flank approach with miniature incision without pelvis *** surgeon did all the *** rate and complications were assessed in a 3-year ***:Mean surgery time was 52 min(47e60 min).Incision size was 18e28 *** hospital stay was 3 days(2e8 days).The surgery was successful in 98.2%of patients with a mean follow-up time of 36 months(success was defined as disappearance of symptoms,if present,with improved ultrasound imaging results or Reno graphic parameters).The complication rate was 7.33%,including urinary leakage,double-J urethral stent dislocation and ***:Open dismembered pyeloplasty is a safe,technically feasible and effective therapy in treatment of children’s ureteropelvic junction *** takes a short time to do,requires a small incision and has few complications and a short recovery period.

BACKGROUND: Prognostic value of cortisol and thyroid function tests(TFTs) has previously been evaluated in medical ICUs. We aimed to evaluate prognostic efficacy of cortisol and TFTs in critically ill poisoned patients admitted to toxicology intensive care unit(ICU).METHODS: In a prospective study of consecutively enrolled subjects admitted to the toxicology ICU, lab analyses included TFTs(total T3 and T4 as well as TSH) and cortisol levels drawn between 8 am–10 am during period of the first 24 hours post-ingestion/exposure. Simplified Acute Physiology Score Ⅱ(SAPS Ⅱ) and Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation Ⅱ(APACHE Ⅱ) were recorded. All scores were compared to detect the best prognostic factor. Type of poisoning was also ***: In 200 patients evaluated, 129 were male and mean age was 31 years. In general, SAPS Ⅱ, T4, and cortisol could prognosticate death. After regression analysis, only cortisol had such efficacy(P=0.04; OR=1.06; 95%CI=1.05–1.08; cut-off=42 μg/d L; sensitivity=70%; specificity=82%). Between aluminium phosphide(ALP)-and non ALP-poisoned patients, level of consciousness, mean arterial pressure, and cortisol level could prognosticate death in ALP poisoning(all Ps<0.001 in both uni and multivariate analyses). Median(interquartile range; IQR) GCS was 7(6, 10) and 15(8, 15) in non-ALP and ALP-poisoned patients(P<0.003). SAPS Ⅱ and APACHE Ⅱ could not prognosticate death at ***: Cortisol best prognosticated outcomes for subjects admitted to the toxicology ICU. Its level is higher in ALP-poisoned patients probably due to the higher stress while they remain conscious till the final stages of toxicity and are aware of deterioration of their clinical condition or may be due to their significantly lower blood pressures.

Molecular dynamics of amorphous pharmaceutical fenofibrate studied by broadband dielectric spectroscopy

Fenofibrate is mainly used to reduce cholesterol level in patients at risk of cardiovascular disease. Thermal transition study with the help of differential scanning calorimetry （DSC） shows that the aforesaid active pharmaceutical ingredient （API） is a good glass former. Based on our DSC study, the molecular dynamics of this API has been carried out by broadband dielectric spectroscopy （BDS） covering wide temperature and frequency ranges. Dielectric measurements of amorphous fenofibrate were per- formed after its vitrification by fast cooling from a few degrees above the melting point （Tm=354.11 K） to deep glassy state. The sample does not show any crystallization tendency during cooling and reaches the glassy state. The temperature dependence of the structural relaxation has been fitted by single Vogel- Fulcher-Tamman （VFT） equation. From VFT fit, glass transition temperature （Tg） was estimated as 250.56 K and fragility （m） was determined as 94.02. This drug is classified as a fragile glass former. Deviations of experimental data from Kohlrausch-Williams-Watts （KWW） fits on high-frequency flank of α-peak indicate the presence of an excess wing in fenofibrate. Based on Ngai＇s coupling model, we identified the excess wing as true Johari-Goldstein （JG） process. Below the glass transition temperature one can clearly see a secondary relaxation （γ） with an activation energy of 32.67 kJ/mol.

One-hundred years after the 1918-19 H1N1 flu pandemic and 10 years after the 2009 H1N1 flu pandemic, another respiratory virus has now inserted itself into the human population. Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus has become a critical challenge to global health with immense economic and social disruption. In this article we review salient aspects of the coronavirus disease2019(COVID-19) outbreak that are relevant to surgical practice. The emphasis is on considerations during the pre-operative and post-operative periods as well as the utility and limitations of COVID-19 testing. The focus of the media during this pandemic is centered on predictive epidemiologic curves and models. While epidemiologists and infectious disease physicians are at the forefront in the fight against COVID-19, this pandemic is also a "stress test" to evaluate the capacity and resilience of our surgical community in dealing with the challenges imposed to our health system and society. As recently pointed out by Dr. Anthony Fauci,the virus decides the timelines in the models. However, the models can also change based on our decisions and behavior. It is our role as surgeons, to make every effort to bend the curves against the virus’ will.
