Effects of a low-radiotoxicity uranium salt(uranyl acetate) on biochemical and hematological parameters of the catfish,Clarias gariepinus

Specimens of Clarias gariepinus were treated with lethal(70,75,80,85,90,and 95 mg/L) and sub-lethal concentrations(8,12 and 16 mg/L) of uranyl acetate,a low-radiotoxicity uranium salt. The LC 50 value was registered as 81.45 mg/L. The protein and glycogen concentrations in liver and muscles were decreased in the fish exposed to sub-lethal concentrations. The red blood cell(RBC) and white blood cell(WBC) counts,haemoglobin(Hb) concentration and haematocrit(Hct) values were decreased. Different blood indices like mean corpuscular volume(mCV),mean corpuscular haemoglobin(mCH) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration(mCHC) were negatively affected. Level of plasma glucose was elevated whereas protein was decreased. The level of calcium concentration(Ca) was declined in the blood of exposed fish whereas magnesium(mg) remains unchanged. The activity level of glutamic-oxaloacetic transaminase(GOT) and glutamic-pyruvic transaminase(GPT) was elevated in exposed fish. These effects were more pronounced in the last period of exposure and in higher concentrations. Results of the present study indicate that uranyl acetate has adverse effects on C larias gariepinus and causes changes in the biochemical and hematological parameters of the fish.

The III–V alloys and doping to tune the bandgap for solar cells and other optoelectronic devices has remained a hot topic of research for the last few *** the present article,the bandgap tuning and its influence on optical properties of In1-xGaxN/P,where(x=0.0,0.25,0.50,0.75,and 1.0)alloys are comprehensively analyzed by density functional theory based on full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method(FP-LAPW)and modified Becke and Johnson potentials(TB-mBJ).The direct bandgaps turn from 0.7 eV to 3.44 eV,and 1.41 eV to 2.32 eV for In1-xGaxN/P alloys,which increases their potentials for optoelectronic *** optical properties are discussed such as dielectric constants,refraction,absorption,optical conductivity,and *** light is polarized in the low energy region with minimum *** absorption and optical conduction are maxima in the visible region,and they are shifted into the ultraviolet region by Ga ***,static dielectric constant e1(0)is in line with the bandgap from Penn’s model.

mn doped ZnO nano-crystallites were synthesized by state of the art sol-gel derived auto- combustion technique. As-burnt powder was investigated with different characterization techniques to explore the properties of mn doped ZnO dilute magnetic semiconductor. X- ray diffraction measurements indicate that mn doped ZnO retain wurtzite type hexagonal crystal structure like ZnO. Compositional and morphological studies were carried out by energy dispersive X-ray analysis and scanning electron microscopy, respectively. Temperature dependent resistivity of the sample exhibited the semiconducting behavior of the DmS material. Room temperature magnetic properties determined by vibrating sample magnetometer, revealed the presence of ferromagnetic and diamagnetic contributions in mn doped ZnO.

Developing countries shoulder a considerable burden of gastroenterological disease. Infectious diseases in particular cause enormous morbidity and mortality. Diseases which afflict both western and developing countries are often seen in more florid forms in poorer countries. Innovative techniques continuously improve and update gastroenterological practice. However, advances in diagnosis and treatment which are commonplace in the West, have yet to reach many developing countries. Clinical guidelines, based on these advances and collated in resource-rich environments, lose their relevance outside these settings. In this two-part review, we first highlight the global burden of gastroenterological disease in three major areas： diarrhoeal diseases, hepatitis B, and Helicobacter pylori. Recent progress in their management is explored, with consideration of future solutions. The second part of the review focuses on the delivery of clinical services in developing countries. Inadequate numbers of healthcare workers hamper efforts to combat gastroenterological disease. Reasons for this shortage are examined, along with possibilities for increased specialist training. Endoscopy services, the mainstay of gastroenterology in the West, are in their infancy in many developing countries. The challenges faced by those se^ing up a service are illustrated by the example of a Nigerian endoscopy unit. Finally, we highlight the limited scope of many clinical guidelines produced in western countries. Guidelines which take account of resource limitations in the form of ＂cascades＂ are advocated in order to make these guidelines truly global. Recognition of the different working conditions facing practitioners worldwide is an important step towards narrowing the gap between gastroenterology in rich and poor countries.

A simple,selective,sensitive,precise,simultaneous high performance liquid chromatographic analysis of serum samples and commercial tablet formulation containing hydrochlorothiazide,olmesartan medoxomil and irbesartan are *** chromatographic separation was achieved using a μ-Bondapak,C18 column(15 cm×4.6 mm,5 μm),and a mobile phase consisting of acetonitrile-0.2% acetic acid aqueous solution(50∶50,v/v)at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/*** ultraviolet detector was set at a wavelength of 260 ***,olmesartan medoxomil,and irbesartan were eluted at 1.2,3.8,and 4.4 min,*** extraneous materials were found to *** method uses protein precipitation with acetonitrile for the preparation of serum *** linear ranges for hydrochlorothiazide,olmesartan medoxomil,and irbesartan were 6.25-18.75,20-60,and 75-225 ng/mL,*** recoveries of hydrochlorothiazide,olmesartan medoxomil,and irbesartan in spiked samples were all greater than 98%,and their relative standard deviations were less than 2.0%.The limits of detection were 1,2,and 2 ng/mL for hydrochlorothiazide,olmesartan medoxomil,and irbesartan,respectively,and the limits of quantification were 3 ng/mL,which allow their determination at the expected serum concentration levels.
