A Comparison of Transverse Palatal Width in Adult Untreated Cleft Palate Patients with Normal Adult Palates: A Pilot Study

Objective: The purpose of this pilot study is to compare the transverse palatal widths in untreated adult cleft palate patients with normal adult patients. Methods and Materials: The study was conducted in Bangladesh recruiting 10 patients with adult sized untreated cleft palate and 15 patients with normal adult sized palates. The control group was comprised of 7 males and 8 females with a mean age of 30.5 ± 4.4 years. The affected group comprised of 7 males and 3 females with a mean age 17 ± 3.3 years. Alginate impressions of the maxillary arch were taken and poured into plaster dental casts. The inter-canine, inter-premolar and intermolar widths were measured to evaluate the maxillary growth pattern in patients with unoperated cleft palate. Due to the small sample size, both independent T-test and Mann Whitney non-parametric tests were performed to analyze the statistical significance of the data. Results: According to both the T-test and Mann Whitney non-parametric tests, the inter-premolar width including both the first and second premolars was statistically significantly smaller in the affected group with p values of 0.003 and 0.00 respectively. There was no significant difference in the inter-canine width between the affected and control group due to the variable canine position in cleft palate patients. Due to small sample size, no significant difference in the intermolar width between the affected and control group could be established. Conclusion: The interpremolar width is significantly smaller in patients with adult sized cleft palates than individuals with normal adult sized palates.

This research study evaluated the effect of different additives on the bait consumption by Indian crested porcupine,a serious forest and agricultural pest,under field *** additives(saccharin,common salt,bone meal,fish meal,peanut butter,egg yolk,egg shell powder,yeast powder,mineral oil and coconut oil)at 2 and 5%each were tested for their relative preference,using groundnut-maize(1:1)as basic *** the additives were tested under a no-choice test *** control tests,no additive was mixed with the basic *** at 5%concentration significantly enhanced the consumption of bait over the basic bait,while 2%saccharin supplemented bait resulted in a non-significant bait *** other additives did not enhance the consumption of the bait material;rather,these worked as ***,the repellency was lowest with the common salt,followed by egg yolk,egg shell powder,bone meal,peanut butter,mineral oil,fish meal and yeast powder,while coconut remained the most repellent *** present study suggested that groundnut-maize(1:1)supplemented with 5%saccharin was the preferred bait combination,and can be used with different rodenticides for the management of Indian crested porcupine.

Neuroimaging has emerged over the last few decades as a crucial tool in diagnosing Alzheimer’s disease(AD).Mild cognitive impairment(MCI)is a condition that falls between the spectrum of normal cognitive function and ***,previous studies have mainly used handcrafted features to classify MCI,AD,and normal control(NC)*** paper focuses on using gray matter(GM)scans obtained through magnetic resonance imaging(MRI)for the diagnosis of individuals with MCI,AD,and *** improve classification performance,we developed two transfer learning strategies with data augmentation(i.e.,shear range,rotation,zoom range,channel shift).The first approach is a deep Siamese network(DSN),and the second approach involves using a cross-domain strategy with customized *** performed experiments on the Alzheimer’s Disease Neuroimaging Initiative(ADNI)dataset to evaluate the performance of our proposed *** experimental results demonstrate superior performance in classifying the three binary classification tasks:NC ***,NC ***,and MCI ***,we achieved a classification accuracy of 97.68%,94.25%,and 92.18%for the three cases,*** study proposes two transfer learning strategies with data augmentation to accurately diagnose MCI,AD,and normal control individuals using GM *** findings provide promising results for future research and clinical applications in the early detection and diagnosis of AD.

PPMG-based composite electrolytes were fabricated via the solution method using the polyvinyl alcohol and polyvinylpyrrolidone blend reinforced with various contents of sulfonated inorganic *** acid was employed as the sulfonating agent to functionalize the external surface of the inorganic filler,i.e.,graphene *** proton conductivities of the newly prepared proton exchange membranes(PEMs)were increased by increasing the temperature and content of sulfonated graphene oxide(SGO),i.e.,ranging from 0.025 S/cm to 0.060 S/*** induction of the optimum level of SGO is determined to be an excellent route to enhance ionic *** single-cell performance test was conducted by sandwiching the newly prepared PEMs between an anode(0.2 mg/cm^(2) Pt/Ru)and a cathode(0.2 mg/cm^(2) Pt)to prepare membrane electrode assemblies,followed by hot pressing under a pressure of approximately 100 kg/cm^(2) at 60℃for 5–10 *** highest power densities achieved with PPMG PEMs were 14.9 and 35.60 mW/cm^(2) at 25℃and 70℃,respectively,at ambient pressure with 100%relative *** showed that the newly prepared PEMs exhibit good electrochemical *** results indicated that the prepared composite membrane with 6 wt%filler can be used as an alternative membrane for applications of high-performance proton exchange membrane fuel cell.

Dear Editor,Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever(CCHF),caused by the CCHF virus(CCHFV),is a tick-borne zoonotic infection characterized by myalgia,high-grade fever(>38℃),headache,nausea,bleeding from the body cavities,and in 10%–50%of cases,results in death(Swanepoel et al.1989).As CCHFV belongs to the Nairoviridae family,the virus can be transmitted to humans through the bite of infected ticks or by contact with the tissues or blood of infected animals(Bente et al.2013).
