Graphene oxide (GO) possesses excellent mechanical strength,biocompatibility,colloidal stability,large surface area and high adsorption *** has driven to cancer nanotechnology to defeat cancer therapy obstacles,via integration into three-dimensional (3D) hydrogel network with biocompatible polymers as nanocomposites carrier,and controllable release of anticancer ***,the surface of GO affords π-π stacking and hydrophilic interactions with anticancer ***,modification of GO with various polymers such as natural and synthetic polymers enhances its biodegradability,drug loading,and target *** this review,GO based hydrogels research accomplishments are reviewed on the aspects of crosslinking strategies,preparation methods,the model drug,polymer conjugation and modification with targeting ***,swelling kinetics,drug release profile and biological activity in vivo and in vitro are *** biocompatibility of GO based hydrogels is also discussed from the perspective of its nano-bio *** from that,the clinical potential of GO based hydrogels and its major challenges are addressed in ***,this review concludes with a summary and invigorating future perspectives of GO based hydrogels for anticancer drug *** is anticipated that this review can stimulate a new research gateway to facilitate the development of anticancer drug delivery by harnessing the unique properties of GO based hydrogels,such as large surface area,chemical purity,high loading capacity of drug,chemical stability,and the nature of lipophilic for cell membrane penetration.

Efficient removal of heavy metals from electroplating wastewater using polymer ligands

Poly（hydroxamic acid）-poly（amidoxime） che- lating ligands were synthesized from poly（methyl acrylate-co-acrylonitrile） grafted acacia cellulose for removing toxic metal ions from industrial wastewaters. These ligands showed higher adsorption capacity to copper （2.80 mmol. g-l） at pH 6. In addition, sorption capacities to other metal ions such as iron, zinc, chromium, and nickel were also found high at pH 6. The metal ions sorption rate （tl/2） was very fast. The rate of adsorption of copper, iron, zinc, chromium, nickel, cobalt, cadmium and lead were 4, 5, 7, 5, 5, 8, 9 and 11 min, respectively. Therefore, these ligands have an advantage to the metal ions removal using the column technique. We have successfully investigated the known concentration of metal ions using various parameters, which is essential for designing a fixed bed column with ligands. The wastewater from electroplating plants used in this study, having chromium, zinc, nickel, copper and iron, etc. For chromium wastewater, ICP analysis showed that the Cr removal was 99.8% and other metal ions such as Cu, Ni, Fe, Zn, Cd, Pb, Co and mn removal were 94.7%, 99.2%, 99.9%, 99.9%, 99.5%, 99.9%, 95.6% and 97.6%, respectively. In case of cyanide wastewater, the metal removal, especially Ni and Zn removal were 96.5 and 95.2% at higher initial concentra- tion. For acid/alkali wastewater, metal ions removing for Cd, Cr and Fe were 99.2%, 99.5% and 99.9%, respectively. Overall, these ligands are useful for metal removal by column method from industrial wastewater especially plating wastewater.

A well-known adsorbent, poly(amidoxime)ligand, was prepared from polyacrylonitrile(PAN) grafted kenaf cellulose, and subsequent characterization was performed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR),field emission scanning electron microscope(FESEm) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-mS).The adsorption capacities of the prepared ligand for rare earth metals are found to be excellent, with adsorptions of La^(3+), Ce^(3+), Pr^(3+), Gd^(3+) and Nd^(3+) experimentally determined to be 262, 255, 244, 241 and 233 mg·g^(-1), respectively, at pH 6. The experimental values of the adsorption of rare earth metals are well matched with the pseudosecond-order rate equation. The reusability of the adsorbent is examined for seven cycles of sorption/desorption,demonstrating that the proposed adsorbent could be reused for over seven cycles without any significant loss in the original removal capability of the ligand.

In this paper, novel mathematical expressions are derived for the Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver interference tolerance in the presence of different types of interference signals such as: continuous wave interference, narrowband interference, partial band interference, broadband interference, match spectrum interference and pulse interference. Also, in this paper the mean time to loss lock is determined in order to analyse the mentioned interferences effect on the GPS receiver. These derived analytical expressions are validated with the aid of extensive simulation experiments.

Lanthanide-ion imprinted polymers（L-IIPs） were synthesized by stoichiometric amounts of rare earth ions and the cavities in the polymers were created for the corresponding lanthanide ions. The maximum sorption capacities were estimated to be 125.3, 126.5, 127.6, 128.2 and 129.1 mg/g for Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu and Gd, respectively at p H 6. In the selectivity study, the L-IIPs exhibited good selectivity to the specific rare earth ions in the presence of coexisting cations. The imprinting results were found to be excellent with some rare earth ions over other competitor rare earth ions with the same charges and close ionic radius.

Optimization and application of UVC irradiation for prevention of fungal biodeterioration of vegetable tanned and chrome tanned leather

UV-C irradiation critically effects the growth of micro-fungi and also deteriorate leather materials. In the present study vegetable tanned and chrome tanned leather were infected with pure cultures of Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus, which were isolated from stored leather materials. UV-C light (λ = 254 nm) was applied on infected leather for 15 and 60 min. The changes in leather qualities were examined through weight, tensile strength, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy study after 15 and 30 days of fungal inoculation. Vegetable tanned leather was more vulnerable in case of fungal attack than chrome tanned leather while A. flavus showed more influence on leather deterioration than A. niger. The results showed that weight loss after 30 days for 15 and 60 min irradiation exposure was 1.3% compared to A. flavus infected leather (3.93%). The tensile strength of vegetable and chrome tanned UV irradiated leather was increased by 44% and 7% respectively. The scanning electron microscopic images exhibit the limited presence of conidiophores in UV-C exposed leather which confirmed the potentiality of irradiation for controlling fungal growth. The infrared spectral analysis of UV-C exposed infected leather samples showed neither shifting of wavenumber nor displacement of any functional groups. Alto-gether the efficacy of UV-C irradiation against biodeterioration of leather was concluded to be effective. This method can be used to control fungal growth without compromising the leather quality.

Influence of Fly Ash and Sewage Sludge Application on Cadmium and Lead Sorption by an Acidic Alfisol

The safe recycling of fly ash (FA) and sewage sludge (SS) in the agricultural processes comprises an important environmental technology on waste management. Soils amended with FA and SS may change their ability to adsorb heavy metals due to either increase of soil pH or decomposition of sludge-borne organic matter. Thus, Cd and Pb sorption was investigated by 1-month incubation under soil moisture content at field capacity and room temperature with an acidic Typic Haploxeroalf from central Greece amended with varying amounts of FA and SS. Batch experiments were conducted by equilibrating the soil samples with CaCl2 solutions containing 0-400 mg Pb L-1 or 0-100 mg Cd L-1. The results showed that the Freundlich equation described well the Cd and Pb sorption. Distribution coefficient (Kd) values of Pb were higher than those of Cd in all the treatments of this study. Application of FA increased Kd values for Cd and Pb to 8.2 and 2.3 times more than the controls, respectively. Simultaneous applications of FA and SS caused a Kd increase of 3.8 and 2.1 times compared to the treatments that received only SS for Cd and Pb, respectively. Treatment of SS alone did not significantly change Cd and Pb sorption compared to the controls. The sorption reactions seemed to be mainly affected by soil pH, which was revealed by the significant correlations of Cd and Pb sorption with soil pH. These suggested that fly ash was very useful as a low-cost adsorbent for Cd and Pb and could be used as an ameliorant for biosolid-amended acidic soils.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)is an acquired injury of the brain caused by the impact of external forces on the brain(maas et al.,2008).It is a major cause of death and disability among people of all ages(maas et al.,2008).The primary mechanical injury to the brain initiates a cascade of secondary biochemical events that lead to acute and chronic neurodegeneration and activation of inflammatory pathways(maas et al.,2008).Both brain-resident microglia and blood-derived myeloid cells-macrophages and monocytes that infiltrate the brain due to injury-induced blood-brain barrier damage,contribute to the inflammatory responses after TBI(morganti et al.,2015).
