Spinal cord injury remains a major cause of disability in young adults,and beyond acute decompression and rehabilitation,there are no pharmacological treatments to limit the progression of injury and optimize recovery in this *** the thorough investigation of the complement system in triggering and propagating cerebral neuroinflammation,a similar role for complement in spinal neuroinflammation is a focus of ongoing *** this work,we survey the current literature investigating the role of complement in spinal cord injury including the sources of complement proteins,triggers of complement activation,and role of effector functions in the *** study relevant data demonstrating the different triggers of complement activation after spinal cord injury including direct binding to cellular debris,and or activation via antibody binding to damage-associated molecular *** effector functions of complement have been implicated in spinal cord injury,and we critically evaluate recent studies on the dual role of complement anaphylatoxins in spinal cord injury while emphasizing the lack of pathophysiological understanding of the role of opsonins in spinal cord *** this pathophysiological review,we systematically review the different translational approaches used in preclinical models of spinal cord injury and discuss the challenges for future translation into human *** review emphasizes the need for future studies to dissect the roles of different complement pathways in the pathology of spinal cord injury,to evaluate the phases of involvement of opsonins and anaphylatoxins,and to study the role of complement in white matter degeneration and regeneration using translational strategies to supplement genetic models.

Background The response to antenatal care(ANC)for maternal and offspring outcomes,especially in pregnant women has been thoroughly ***,despite the number of interventional studies on the treatment of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine combination(IPTp-SP)uptake,the point in point cases of the positive responses of ANC in improving health conditions of pregnant women are not found in the *** sources This review collected ANC responses to the positive health outcomes for pregnant women with malaria,the challenges faced regarding IPTp-SP uptake during ANC visits and the role of ANC in preventing and controlling malaria in sub-Saharan *** elucidated ANC and uptake of optimal intermitent preventive IPTp-SP and further described ANC as a tool for heterogeneity for malaria *** ANC is seen as a microscope to malaria in pregnacy,maternal iron deficiency and anemia checkpoints,ANC and malaria treatment strategies,and ANC and the use of insecticide treated nets(ITN).The review further discussed ANC attendance influencing factors,limitations to ANC implications and the prospects in ANC visits on preventing malaria in *** A declining trend of malaria transmission in Africa has been observed in recent ***,the burden of malaria in pregnancy remains a health *** rate of SP resistance,low uptake of IPTp-SP,low LLINs distribution,late gestational ANC visits and low turnaround for optimal ANC visits for first time mothers’aggrevated the malaria-endemic settings among pregnant women in sub-Saharan Africa.

A Comparative Analysis of Four Kinds of Polysaccharides Purified from Furcellaria lumbricalis

Four kinds of polysaccharides (FA, FB, FC and FD) were extracted and purified from a red alga Furcellaria lumbri-calis. Their monosaccharide composition, average molecular mass (Mw) and structural feature were determined by gas chromatog-raphy (GC), high performance gel permeation chromatography (HPGPC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. The results showed that FA and FB were composed of galactose (Gal), 3,6-anhydro-galactose (AnG) and 4-sulfated-galactose (G4S), which were structurally similar to β-carrageenan and κ-carrageenan. FC was composed of sulfated galactose and small amount of AnG, indicating that it was a hybrid-sulfated galactan. FD was composed of α-1, 4-glucose and belonged to floridean starch. The respective yields of FA, FB, FC and FD were 4.84%,33.74%,8.76% and 13.5%, and the cor-responding Mw were 537 kD, 432 kD, 513 kD and 51 kD respectively. Owning to its high content ( >60%) of polysaccharide, F. lumbricalis will be a good source of marine sulfated polysaccharide and shows its potential utilization in food and medicine.

In this study, an ecofriendly and economically viable waste management approach have been attempted towards the biosynthesis of agriculturally important nanoparticles from jarosite waste. Aspergillus terreus strain J4 isolated from jarosite（waste from Debari Zinc Smelter,Udaipur, India）, showed good leaching efficiency along with nanoparticles（NPs） formation under ambient conditions. Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy（FT-IR） and transmission electron microscopy（TEM） confirmed the formation of NPs. Energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy（EDX analysis） showed strong signals for zinc, iron, calcium and magnesium,with these materials being leached out. TEM analysis and high resolution transmission electron microscopy（HRTEM） showed semi-quasi spherical particles having average size of 10‐50 nm. Thus, a novel biomethodology was developed using fungal cell-free extract for bioleaching and subsequently nanoconversion of the waste materials into nanostructured form. These biosynthesized nanoparticles were tested for their efficacy on seed emergence activity of wheat（Triticum aestivum） seeds and showed enhanced growth at concentration of 20 ppm. These nanomaterials are expected to enhance plant growth properties and being targeted as additives in soil fertility and crop productivity enhancement.

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of brain dementia characterizedby the accumulation of β-amyloid peptides (Aβ) and loss of forebrain cholinergicneurons.Aβ accumulation and aggregation are thought to contribute to cholin-ergic neuronal degeneration,in turn causing learning and memory deficits,but thespecific targets that mediate Aβ neurotoxicity remain ***,accumu-lating lines of evidence have demonstrated that Aβ directly modulates the func-tion of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs),which leads to thenew hypothesis that neuronal nAChRs may serve as important targets that medi-ate Aβ *** this review,we summarize current studies performed inour laboratory and in others to address the question of how Aβ modulates neu-ronal nAChRs,especially nAChR subunit function.

Coffee is one of the most prevalent and functional beverages around world owing to its rich content of bioactive *** compounds and alkaloids are two primary groups of bioactive compounds in coffee beans,which have been proven healthy benefits in regular and suitable daily *** have been recognized as protective factors,especially phenolic compounds,to perform high antioxidant capacities and potential to relieve the occurrence of chronic diseases and partial *** content and composition of bioactive and anti-nutritional compounds in coffee beans can be mainly influenced by variety,processing and storage *** cultivar of Arabica coffee beans(***)exhibits lower content of phenolic compounds but similar anti-nutritional substances with the comparison to Robusta(***).Comparing to green coffee beans,reasonable roasting contributes to the improvement of phenolic content and its total antioxidant activity because of the liberation of bound phenolic compounds and the generation of novel compounds with antioxidant *** intensive roasting will not only decrease the number of bioactive compounds within the coffee beans but also stimulate the generation of endogenous anti-nutritional compounds,which consequently reduce the coffee nutritional *** fluctuations of moisture content during storage would be the primary reason of the changes in the content of bioactive *** compounds in coffee beans perform outstanding bioaccessibility but relatively lower absorption efficiency because of the combination with other *** roasting would improve the bioavailability of bioactive *** interaction between phenolic compounds and proteins would also influence the bioavailability and bioactivity of bioactive compounds and final nutritional value after consumption.

Grapes(Vitis Vinifera)are one of the world's most utilised and prized *** are a great source of antioxidants due to the abundance of phenolic *** pulp is the main part of the grape being *** pulp of five Australian grown grapes–Dawn Seedless(DS),Calmeria(CG),Golden Globe(GG),Menindee Seedless(MS),and Thompson Seedless(TS)will be qualitatively and quantitatively analysed for its phenolic composition and antioxidant *** general trend followed:GG>TS>MS>DS>CG,and the phenolic content of the pulp also presented a significant positive correlation with the antioxidant *** revealing the highest levels of TPC(4.31±0.11 mg GAE/g)and TFC(0.48±0.09 mg QE/g)while TS were highest in TTC(0.94±0.12 mg CE/g).Similarly,GG exhibited higher antioxidant capacity in DPPH(5.84±0.17 mg AAE/g),FRAP(4.91±0.14 mg AAE/g),and TAC(6.78±0.12 mg AAE/g),while TS revealed highest radical scavenging ability for ABTS(4.56±0.19 mg AAE/g).The LC-ESI-QTOF-MS/MS tentatively identified 78 phenolic compounds consisting of flavonoids(36),phenolic acids(31),lignans(3),stilbenes(1),and other polyphenols(7)in five grapes *** most abundant fruit-based targeted polyphenols were *** had a higher phenolic concentration in HPLC-PDA quantification,particularly for phenolic acids(gallic acid and chlorogenic acid)and flavonoids(kaempferol).Our study provides relatively adequate information on grape pulp's phenolic content and antioxidant capacity,providing confidence and research prospects to promote grape pulp use in different food,pharmaceutical and supplement industries,and even influencing grape cultivation.

蒜头果蛋白(malanin)是从云南、广西特有植物蒜头果中分离纯化出的一种新的、具有抗肿瘤活性的糖蛋白。用荧光光谱法研究了Cu2+,Ag+和Ca2+对malanin和apo-malanin溶液(经EDTA透析脱去金属离子后的脱金属蛋白)荧光强度的影响。结果表明,Cu2+对malanin和apo-malanin荧光均有明显的静态猝灭现象,其离解常数Kd分别为2.37×10-4和2.66×10-4 mol·L-1;Ag+对malanin的荧光强度变化不大,但对apo-malanin荧光强度却有明显的静态猝灭现象,其离解常数Kd为2.37×10-4 mol·L-1;而Ca2+对malanin和apo-malanin荧光强度均无明显变化,说明Ca2+对维持malanin分子天然构象具有重要作用。
