Microfacies Patterns and Depositional Environments of the Sarvak Formation in the Abadan Plain, Southwest of Zagros, Iran

The Sarvak Formation is the second major oil-bearing reservoir in the south and south west of Iran. The Middle Cretaceous Sarvak formation in the Zagros Mountains (Zagros Basin) is mainly composed of carbonate sequences. Based on facies studied, thirteen microfacies were recognized in the studied area, which were categorized in the three facies groups: including inner ramp, mid ramp and outer ramp. Evidences such as the gradual changes in the facies (basin slope), the absence of extensive uninterrupted barrier reef, the lack of calciturbidite and gravity sediments as well as the high proportion of grain-supported indicated that the Sarvak Formation was deposited in the ramp like depositional system, particularly on an inner ramp setting. Inner ramp facies group is the principal setting and subdivided to tidal flat, restricted and unrestricted lagoon as well as shoal sub-environments.

Effects of nitric oxide on the prefrontal cortex in stressed rats

BACKGROUND： Nitric oxide （NO） exhibits both protective and detrimental effects in the central nervous system. OBJECTIVE： To investigate the effect of NO on the prefrontal cortex in neonatal stressed rats. DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING： A randomized, controlled, animal study was performed at the Anatomical Department of Iran University of Medical Sciences from May 2007 to August 2008. MATERIALS; Forty-eight male, Wistar rats were obtained from Pasteur＇s Institute, Tehran, Iran. METHODS： Rat stress models were established by immobilization and randomly received intraperitoneal injection of 2 mL physiological saline, L-arginine （200 mg/kg） as a NO precursor, N（G）-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester （20 mg/kg）, or subcutaneous injection of 7-nitroindazole （25 mg/kg） as a NO synthase inhibitor. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： After the rats were treated for 4 weeks, the frontal cortex was harvested for histological observation and NO detection. RESULTS： Subcutaneous administration of N（G）-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester or 7-nitroindazole resulted in significantly lower prefrontal cortex thickness and NO production compared with subcutaneous administration of L-arginine （P 〈 0.05）. Prefrontal cortex thickness significantly increased in rats following L-arginine treatment, compared with physiological saline intervention （P 〈 0.05）. CONCLUSION： NO exhibited protective effects on the prefrontal cortex of stressed rats.

Modification of the Surface Properties of Core-Shell Semiconductors and Their Effects on the Photodecolorization Activity and Adsorption

Semiconductor-based photocatalysts have been extensively studied for oxidative photodestruction of organic pollutants in wastewaters, releasing non-toxic substances such as Azo dyes. Various synthesized catalyst specimens were characterized to determine the correlation between preparation conditions (catalyst type, dopant, microstructure, preparation routs, optical and physico-chemical properties) on the photocatalytic activity. Some researchers focused on the process parameters to optimize them to reach higher photoactivity. The specific surface areas, crystalline size, charge and pretreatment of the surface have significant effects on the physical and photocatalytic properties of the semiconductors. The surface sites of catalyst (TiO2) were modified by doping ZnS nanoparticles in the form of Core-Shell structure and the photocatalytic activities were determined by using color degradation and hydrogen production tests. The dye adsorption isotherms of photocatalyst were determined using UV-Vis spectroscopy. The specific surface properties were determined from BET, Zeta meter and Particle size analyzer tests. Photocatalytic decolorization of AR and water splitting test were applied to understand the relation between the surface properties and the photocatalytic activity. The result indicated that core-shell prepared samples had different surface suitable sites to cooperate in photocatalytic reaction.

Effects of butternut squash extract on dentate gyrus cell proliferation and spatial learning in male adult rats

Previous studies reported that some plants, including butternut squash, exert positive effects on the brain. However, few studies have examined the effects of butternut squash on learning, memory, and neurogenesis. This study studied the effects of butternut squash extract on spatial learning and cell proliferation in the dentate gyrus of healthy male rats. Thirty-five male Wistar rats were intraperitoneally injected with 0, 50, 100, 200 and 400 mg/kg butternut squash extract once daily for 2 months. After the last administration, rat＇s spatial memory was studied using the Morris water maze. Finally, rats were sacrificed and hippocampal sections were prepared for light microscopy and bromodeoxyuridine immunohistochemistry studies. The results revealed that escape latency and swim distance decreased in all treatment groups compared with the control rats, and that the number of bromodeoxyuridine-positive cells in the dentate gyrus was significantly increased in the treatment groups compared with the controls. These findings suggest that butternut squash extract improves the learning and memory abilities of male rats, and increases the proliferation of dentate gyrus cells.

3, 4-methylenedioxymethamphetamine （MDMA; also known as ＇ecstasy＇） has been shown to impair learning and spatial memory in adult and neonatal rats. Many studies have focused on the acute effects of MDMA on memory. In the present study, we intraperitoneally administered MDMA （0, 5, 10, 20 mg/kg） to adult male rats to investigate the effects of different doses on rat spatial memory in the Morris water maze, body temperature, and mortality, twice a day, for 7 successive days. The results indicated that MDMA impaired spatial memory dose-dependently, with the highest dose （20 mg/kg） exerting the strongest effects. In addition, MDMA also caused hyperthermia and increased mortality in rats

Transparent conductive oxides are widely used in solar cell *** layers have low electrical resistance that can reduce the top contact losses by reducing series resistance and increasing the fill factor of the *** the contrary,due to their conductivity,these layers have higher absorption coefficient than non conductive anti reflection *** interests in preparing of high quality TCO films lead us to defining a novel figure of merit Q for qualifying these layers and predicting the influence of using TCO films on solar cells operation. In this paper,all of the top contact effects such as shadows of contacts,contact resistance,lateral resistance and metal resistance were analytically *** layers mainly affect the lateral and contact *** properties of layers are modeled for solar cell applications by defining a modified average transmission coefficient using the air mass 1.5 and IQE as the weight factors. Considering the electro-optical effects of TCO layers,a novel figure of merit is introduced which is proportional to the efficiency of the cell. Using this figure of merit we are able to optimize the top contact pattern and choose the best values for finger spacing and busbar width. The defined Q is used to qualifying the ITO layers prepared by RF sputtering in TFL laboratory and it shows that the films with RF power of 300w and the mixture pressure 27 mTorr (90% Ar-10% O) and the annealing temperature of 400℃ has the most amount of Q in optimize top contact pattern.

In this paper, Al-doped ZnO (AZO) films have been deposited by RF sputtering at room temperature with thickness 300 nm from an Aluminium Zinc Oxide target in Argon 99.99% ambient and without substrate heating with RF power of 300 watt. After deposition, the samples have been annealed at temperatures ranging from 300 to 500 o C in vacuum for 1h. The effect of flow rate of the Argon gas and annealing, on the Structural properties and grain size have been investigated by XRD using Cu(Ka1) radiation (λ= 0.154056 nm) in θ-2θ scan mode. It is shown that the structural properties and grain size of the AZO thin films are dependent on the flow rate of the Argon gas. The experimental results show that good qualities of crystalline structure appeared when AZO film prepared by flow rate of Argon gas 10 SCCM. But the effect of annealing on the structural properties of the AZO thin films is low. A high degree of preferred orientation which depends on the various flow rate of argon gas is exhibited. The θ-2θ scan data of AZO films exhibit a strong 2θ peaks at nearby 34.53°, corresponding to the (002) peaks of AZO. It is indicated that the film is a crystalline with a preferential orientation along c-axis. There is a 2% variation in 2θ peaks of AZO films. (i.e. 34.53°± 2%) have been prepared at various flow rate and annealing temperature.

It has been proved that the optical and electrical properties of indium tin oxide (ITO) thin film is strongly structural dependent,with the structural properties of the film varies for different film preparation condition. The ITO film has been prepared by RF sputtering and its transmission and conductivity have been optimized by annealing in the atmosphere of N at 400℃.A theoretical model based on the variation of electrical and optical band gap of the film for different preparation condition is developed and its validity has been verified by experimental results.
