HCV genotype distribution and possible transmission risks in Lahore, Pakistan

AIM: To investigate the prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) genotypes and their association with possible transmission routes in the general population of Lahore, as the data exclusively related to this city is limited. METHODS: Complete data regarding patient's history, possible route of infection and biochemical tests was collected from the public hospital for 1364 patients. SPSS version 16 windows software was used for data analysis by univariate and multivariate techniques. RESULTS: Age range ≤ 40 years showed high prevalence of HCV infection. HCV genotype 3a was dominant (55.9%), followed by 1a (23.6%), 4a (12.5%), 3b (3.2%), untypable (2.5%), 4b (1.2%) and mixed type (1.2%). Blood transfusion, dental surgery and barber shops were the main risk factors for HCV transmission. Genotype prevalence was independent of age (P = 0.971) and gender (P = 0.122) while risk factors showed a significant association with age (P = 0.000) and genotypes (P = 0.000). We observed an independent association of risk factors and genotype 3a, while patients with genotype 1 and 4 were mostly infected due to dental surgery blood transfusion and barber shops. Risk factors of intravenous drug use and sexual exposure were exclusively found in ≤ 40 years age group. CONCLUSION: An increase in genotypes 1a and 4a suggest migration of people, possibly from Balochistan and the northern war-zone area. Government should focus on public education regarding infection routes.

Evidence-based practice profiles of nurses: a transcultural study

Objective: To compare(i) the evidence-based practice(EBP) profiles and(ii) socio-demographic characteristics of nurses in 4 selected low-middle income countries(LMICs).Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 677 nurses from 4 hospitals in 4 countries(Afghanistan, Ghana, Iran, and Uganda).Results: The findings revealed that there are significant differences between the 3 EBP subscales(that is, practice/use, attitude, and knowledge/skill) across the 4 countries(P < 0.05). No significant EBP differences were identified across age groups and gender in the subscales of practice, knowledge, and attitude. Practice and knowledge subscales were significantly associated with working schedules(that is, par t-time and full-time)(P < 0.05). Analyses also revealed significant differences between attitude and knowledge subscales and working experience(P < 0.05).Conclusions: Nurses in the 4 countries have moderate practice, attitude, and knowledge/skil s of EBP. Nurses in LMICs require continuous professional development programs and suppor t to enhance their practice and knowledge regarding EBP in clinical settings.

Compound light is required for plant growth and development,but the response mechanisms of plants are undercharacterized and not fully *** present study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of supplemental light(green light,G;white light,W;yellow light,Y)added to red–blue light(RB)and sole W on the growth and photosynthesis of rapeseed *** results revealed that supplemental G/W improved the growth and photosynthesis of seedlings,but supplemental Y significantly reduced the photosynthetic rate and palisade tissue *** W caused similar responses in terms of growth,leaf development,oxidative damage,and antioxidant capability as supplemental *** total,449,367,813,and 751 differentially expressed genes(DEGs)were identified under supplemental G,Y,and W and sole W,respectively,compared to *** DEGs under different lights were closely associated with pathways such as light stimulus and high-light response,root growth,leaf development,photosynthesis,photosynthesis-antenna proteins,carbohydrate synthesis and degradation,secondary metabolism,plant hormones,and antioxidant capacity,which contributed to the distinct growth and photosynthesis under different *** results suggest that Y is more likely substituted by other wavelengths to achieve certain effects similar to those of supplemental Y,while G has a more distinctive effect on *** together,supplementation RB with G/W promotes the growth of rapeseed seedlings in a controlled environment.

Plants,as sessile in nature,are constantly confronted with diverse biotic and abiotic stresses throughout their life cycle in the changing *** a result,plants evolved root-shoot communications to optimize plant growth and development,and regulate responses to environmental ***,we examined the roles of root-sourced cytokinin(CTK)response to heat stress in grafted cucumber *** plants grafted onto cucumber roots and bitter gourd(Momordica charantia)roots were exposed to heat to examine their heat tolerance by assessing the levels of photosynthetic capacity,CTK contents,chlorophyll-a/b-binding protein(Lhcb2),ribulose-1,5-bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase(Rubisco)and its activating enzyme(RCA)content,and the enzyme activity of *** gourd rootstock enhanced cucumber scions heat stress *** enhancement was positively correlated with a higher content of CTK in both leaf and root parts,chlorophyll contents,and Rubisco abundance and *** addition,the higher level of CTK and Rubisco content in bitter gourd grafted plants shoots than in cucumber self-gafted plants shoots were attributed to an increase in CTK transport from roots in grafted plants under hightemperature *** results indicated that CTK transfer from bitter gourd rootstock to scion and triggered the accumulation of Rubisco in leaf,thus improving the heat resistance of bitter gourd-grafted plants.

论文以零排放、经济性好且日趋成熟的电动汽车为研究对象,首先建立了整车数学模型,接着进行了系统参数辨识,并在电动汽车试验样车上进行了操纵稳定性试验。鉴于利用数学建模的方法通常能够如实的反映车辆的动力学特性,本研究利用现有的汽车动力学模型来检验车辆的操纵稳定性。首先,搭建了一个8自由度的整车多体动力学模型,具体而言包括纵向、侧向、横摆、侧倾以及四个车轮的转动。该模型适用于研究车辆的操纵稳定性。为了进行进一步的分析,接下来必须确定一些整车的关键参数。其中一些参数可以采用直接测量的方法获得,而另一些则需要利用离线或在线的辨识方法通过实车试验得到。为了达到确定模型参数的目的,在本研究中采用了优化技术来辨识8自由度非线性整车模型和魔术公式轮胎模型所需要的车辆参数。最后,通过与不同工况下的道路试验数据以及Car Sim中的轮胎模型数据进行对比,分别对整车模型和轮胎模型进行了验证。在此所采用的优化方法可以进一步用来辨识其他未知的车辆模型和轮胎模型参数。此外,该经过验证的非线性整车模型还可以用于研究不同车辆在不同工况下的操稳动力学,并为将来开展主动安全控制方法的研究打下基础。

Frequency of StaphylococcalCassette Chromosome mecType IV and Type V in Clinical Isolates of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus

MRSA is able to generate a modified variety of penicillin binding protein named as PBP2a instead of PBP which makes it resistant against penicillin and methicillin. Production of PBP2a is due to the presence of a gene on Staphylococcal cassette chromosome or SCC termed as “mec-A gene”. SCC is a mobile genetic element carrying many resistance genes. It is because of current antibiotic selection pressure that by now there are eight types (I - VIII) of SCCmec. This research has been designed to determine frequency of SCCmec type IV and V in clinical isolates of MRSA. A total of 70 presumptive MRSA isolates collected from a tertiary care hospital of Lahore were cultured on blood agar, incubated overnight at 37°C aerobically. Next day, they were examined for cultural characteristics, colonial morphology, gram stain, and biochemical profile. Confirmation of MRSA was done by phenotypic disk diffusion method according to (CLSI) 2013 guidelines. mecA gene was also detected at molecular level. Molecular identification of SCCmec type IV and V was done by Nested PCR strategy. A total of 50 isolates were confirmed to be MRSA Molecular detection of SCCmec type IV and V revealed that 11 isolates (22%) possess SCCmec type IV and only 2 isolate (4%) carries SCCmec type V. It is obvious from results that SCCmec type IV and V are present in our population too. Larger study (with larger sample size) might be undertaken to find out actual emergence of SCCmec type IV and V in our population.

河南省内四大流域边界提取与水系分析

【目的】为推动河南省境内流域生态环境保护和高质量发展,准确掌握河南省境内区县和水系在四大流域中的分布情况。【方法】基于数字高程模型(DEM)数据,利用ArcGIS扩展模块ArcHydro Tools提取流域的边界和水系,获得了长江、黄河、淮河、海河四大流域在河南省境内的边界线、5级河流和涉及区县分布图。【结果】河南省境内流域面积最大的是淮河流域(占全省面积的52.70%,涉及的区县最多),其次是黄河流域(21.62%)、长江流域(16.50%)、海河流域(9.18%)。其中,黄河流域涉及的区县,还包括流域外的区县:郑州市的荥阳市、惠济区和金水区,开封市的龙亭区、祥符区和兰考县,因为其位于黄河岸边,虽然根据流域性质它们属于淮河流域,但却是影响黄河和受黄河影响较大的区县;河网密度最大的是长江流域(0.36 km/km^(2)),依次是黄河流域(豫西)(0.30 km/km^(2))、淮河流域(0.27 km/km^(2))、海河流域(0.20 km/km^(2)),河网密度最小的是黄河流域(豫北)(0.15 km/km^(2)),高低顺序与流域水系分布特征完全吻合。【结论】利用ArcHydro Tools提取省级行政区境内流域的边界和水系切实可行,是行之有效的方法。

Grain Yield and Nitrogen Use Efficiency Vary with Cereal Crop Type and Nitrogen Fertilizer Rate in Ethiopia: A Meta-Analysis

The crop production in Ethiopia is markedly constrained by soil nutrient depletion and limited fertilizer input. Nitrogen is among the most yield-limiting factors of cereal crops, especially in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA). A meta-analysis of 82 studies was carried out to evaluate the response of major cereal crops, viz. wheat, maize, barley, teff, and sorghum, to nitrogen fertilization in Ethiopia. The results showed that N-application significantly increased yields of all the five crops examined herein. The average yields of the treatment effects over controls for the five crops were 3775.8 kg∙ha−1 and 2593.3 kg∙ha−1, respectively. The overall yield response to nitrogen treatments for all the crops was 64.8% (wheat, 96.5%;maize, 40.65%;barley 84.36%;teff, 50.48%;and sorghum;23%). Overall, nitrogen agronomic efficiency (AEN) and partial factor productivity (PFPN) were 18.2 and 71.81 kg∙kg−1, respectively. A downtrend of nitrogen use efficiency with an increase in N rate was realized. The yield response was higher for the nitrogen treatment effects of >100 kg∙N∙ha−1 (123.9%), clay soils (75.46%), low initial soil organic carbon (SOC) and available phosphorous (AP) (92.4% and 101.6%), respectively, Therefore, we recommend the application of nitrogen fertilizer (>100 kg∙N∙ha−1), especially on infertile soils for improved grain yield and NUE in aforementioned cereal crops in Ethiopia and similar regions in sub-Saharan Africa (SSA).

Analysis of Bifenthrin Degrading Bacteria from Rhizosphere of Plants Growing at Tannery Solid Waste

Bifenthrin is an insecticide which is used to control insects, mites, and ticks. It poses a solemn en-vironmental threat and health risk to living organisms. It may be bioaccumulated or biomagnified at different trophic levels in the food chain by biota. Microbes are hidden creature of earth’s biodiversity. For isolation of bifenthrin degrading bacteria, rhizospheric soil samples of plants like Pisum sativum, Triticun aestvum, Chenopodium album were taken from tannery solid waste, Kasur, Pakistan. Enrichment culture techniques were used for the isolation of bacterial strains that showed luxurious growth on minimal growth media with bifenthrin dose was selected for biodegradation study. Bacteria were further screened out based on their morphological, biochemical parameters and degradation efficiency. Furthermore the effect of different growth factors like temperature, pH, inoculum concencentration, minimal inhibitory concentration of heavy metals and antibiotics were also studied. Bacterial strains of Xanthomonas and Bacillus sp. were identified as efficient degrading microbes. Maximum bifenthrin utilization were observed at 25°C (pH 7), with 500 μL inoculum of Bacillus sp., while Xanthomonas sp. gave optimm utilization at 30°C (pH 7) at the same inoculum volume of bacteria. The Rf values of Bacillus sp. and Xanthomonas sp. were 0.91 and 0.90 respectively, which indicated their potential to metabolize bifenthrin into nontoxic forms. These strains can be used to clean up the sites polluted with pesticides and tannery wastes when present in rhizosphere of plants.

Putrescine(Put),melatonin(MT),proline(Pro),and potassium fulvic acid(MFA)are widely used as plant growth regulators to enhance stress ***,the roles of their mixtures in response to stress are largely ***,we mixed Put with MT,Pro,and MFA(hereafter referred to as Put mixture)with different concentrations and foliar sprayed at different growth stages(seedling,flowering,and fruiting stage)of cucumber(Cucumis sativus L.)to investigate their roles on plant growth,fruit yield,and quality under high temperature *** foliar application of the Put mixture promoted cucumber growth,increased chlorophyll and Pro contents and net photosynthesis rate,and reduced the values of relative electrolyte leakage,H_(2)O_(2)and malondialdehyde contents of cucumber leaves,indicating that treatment with Put mixture reduced the oxidative stress caused by high ***,Put mixture-treated cucumber plants had lower fruit deformity rate and higher fruit yield compared with *** contents of vitamin C and soluble solids of cucumber fruit significantly increased and the contents of tannin and organic acid *** most profound effects were found in the plants treated with 8 mmol L^(−1)Put,50μmol L^(−1)MT,1.5 mmol L^(−1)Pro and 0.3 g L^(−1)MFA every 7 d,three times at the seedling stage,indicating that cucumber seedlings treated with the mixture of Put,MT,Pro,and MFA significantly alleviated the negative effects of high temperature stress.
