Europium doped CeO_2 was synthesized via combustion synthesis method. The powders were found to be in a single phase. The average crystallite size was found to be about 30nm. It was revealed from photoluminescence spectra that there was an excitation band around 368 nm and a narrow excitation peak at 468 nm. The emission spectrum showed four peaks at 589, 608, 629 and 650 nm.

The peripheral nervous system （PNS） is composed of the nerves and ganglia outside of the brain and spinal cord whose primary function is to connect the central nervous system to the limbs and organs. A peripheral nerve injury （PNI） is damage to the nerves and/or its surrounding tissue. These injuries can affect up to 5% of patients that are hospitalized for trauma （Taylor et al., 2008） and over 50,000 surgical repair procedures are performed annually in the United States alone （Evans, 2001）.

A(very)brief history of tension in nerve repair:Successful nerve repair is achieved by conveying as many axons successfully to their targets as ***,this is best achieved through a direct end-to-end repair under minimal tension(Millesi,1986).However,this is not feasible in most cases of trauma,where a segment of tissue damage must be excised and *** has most commonly been addressed with the use of nerve grafts to bridge the *** nerve grafts are considered the gold standard,with allograft or synthetic substitutes demonstrating some success over shorter *** their utility,autologous grafts pose challenges of their *** include functional deficit in the donor distribution(typically sensory),extended operative duration,additional scarring,and a lack of intrinsic blood *** are also a poor anatomical match for the stumps being bridged,both internally(disparate neuronal size and composition)as well as externally(often requiring cabled bundles to approximate the caliber of the nerve being repaired).Finally,unlike end-to-end repairs,autologous grafts also require axons to traverse a second repair interface,where a large proportion of axons are lost across the anatomical discontinuity.

In mountain agriculture, early maturity, high grain yield and high biomass are generally considered as farmer preferred traits in rice crop in addition to a multiple set of traits collectively responsible for variety adoption or rejection. The varieties tested only on station evaluation trials without taking the data from the farmers＇ fields by not including farmers as partners for variety evaluation are the reasons of low adoption of varieties. In this regard, a participatory methodology was followed by conducting a number of participatory trials in the farmers＇ fields during 2012-2014 in six districts of Kashmir Valley, India. The mother trials in the farmers＇ fields showed that the test variety SKUA-408 consistently and significantly out yielded Jhelum and farmers＇ variety followed by Shalimar rice 3 （SR3）. The other released varieties like SR1 and SR2 could not perform nicely in the farmers＇ fields because of late maturity. After making the t-test comparison of baby trials （paired plots）, the mean yield superiority of test varieties SKUA-408, SR3, and SKUA-403 over farmers＇ variety during 2013 was around 23, 25, and 22％, respectively, whereas in 2014 the respective yield advantage was recorded as 16.3, 17.7, and 16.2％. In all districts, SKUA-408 and SR3 were significantly preferred by farmers （P〈0.05 or 0.01） in terms of pre-harvest traits namely, tillering ability and general phenotypic acceptability, early maturity and biomass and for post-harvest traits such as general cooking quality besides, the intention to grow the variety for next year. Adoption and dissemination of SKUA-408 began in 2014 from the farm-saved seed in the form of farmer to farmer seed exchange. Farmers are the end users of a variety so the decision by the farmers while judging the variety should be taken into consideration to make the varietal choice more effective for its widespread adoption.

Peripheral nerve injury impairs motor, sensory, and autonomic function, incurring substantial financial costs and diminished quality of life. For large nerve gaps, proximal lesions, or chronic nerve injury, the prognosis for recovery is particularly poor, even with autografts, the current gold standard for treating small to moderate nerve gaps. In vivo elongation of intact proximal stumps towards the injured distal stumps of severed peripheral nerves may offer a promising new strategy to treat nerve injury. This review describes several nerve lengthening strategies, including a novel internal fixator device that enables rapid and distal reconnection of proximal and distal nerve stumps.

End-to-end repair under no or low tension leads to improved outcomes for transected nerves with short gaps,compared to repairs with a ***,grafts are typically used to enable a tension-free repair for moderate to large gaps,as excessive tension can cause repairs to fail and catastrophically impede *** this study,we tested the hypothesis that unloading the repair interface by redistributing tension away from the site of repair is a safe and feasible strategy for end-to-end repair of larger nerve ***,we tested the hypothesis that such an approach does not adversely affect structural and functional *** this study,we used a rat sciatic nerve injury model to compare the integrity of repair and several regenerative outcomes following end-to-end repairs of nerve gaps of increasing *** addition,we proposed the use of a novel implantable device to safely repair end-to-end repair of larger nerve gaps by redistributing tension away from the repair *** data suggest that redistriubution of tension away from the site of repair enables safe end-to-end repair of larger gap *** addition,structural and functional measures of regeneration were equal or enhanced in nerves repaired under tension – with or without a tension redistribution device – compared to tension-free *** that repair integrity is maintained,end-to-end repairs under tension should be considered as a reasonable surgical *** animal experiments were performed under the approval of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee of University of California,San Diego(Protocol S11274).

background: D-Limonene, a monoterpene from citrus fruit has been found to have chemopreventive and chemotherapeutic activities in various types of cancers. In this study, we evaluated the in vivo effect of D-Limonene on a K562-induced model of chronic myeloid leukemia(CML) in C57 bL/6 ***: The tail vein injection model of K562 cells in immunocompromised C57 bL/6 mice was developed and evaluated for characteristics of the disease. The mice were treated with D-Limonene and evaluated for haematological parameters. We also evaluated the effect of D-Limonene on angiogenesis using the chick chorioallantoic membrane(CAM) ***: In a complete blood count, a significant dose-dependent reduction in white blood cell, neutrophil and lymphocyte counts, but an elevation in red blood cell count and haemoglobin content was observed with D-Limonene treatment compared to the disease control or untreated group. In the CAM assay, D-Limonene produced a significant dose-dependent reduction in number of blood vessels in treatment groups compared to the vehicle-treated ***: These studies suggest promising anti-leukemic and anti-angiogenic effects of D-Limonene in the treatment of CML.

Objective:To investigate the cardioprotective potential of betulin in isoproterenol(ISO)-induced myocardial injury in ***:Wistar rats were divided into five groups(n=10):normal,ISO,nebivolol 5 mg/kg,and betulin(20&40 mg/kg).Nebivolol and betulin were administered orally for 29 ***(85 mg/kg)was administered subcutaneously on day 27 and day 28 to induce myocardial *** day 29,blood was collected for determination of cardiac markers,and hemodynamic parameters were *** levels of oxidative stress markers and the gene expressions of apoptotic markers and inflammatory mediators were ***,2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride staining and histopathological analysis were also ***:betulin reduced the size of myocardial infarction,decreased elevated levels of cardiac enzymes,and maintained hemodynamic *** also inhibited ISO-induced upregulation of bax,caspase-3,NF-κb,and IL-6,enhanced endogenous antioxidant enzymes,and reduced lipid ***,pretreatment with betulin alleviated myocardial ischemic damage,as reflected by reduced myonecrosis,edema,and inflammatory ***:betulin exhibits strong cardioprotective activity against ISO-induced myocardial injury by anti-inflammatory,anti-apoptotic,and antioxidant activities.

The removal of cadmium, copper, and zinc from aqueous solution using activated carbon impregnated with 8-Hydroxyquinoline （oxine） was investigated in this study. The study was conducted using a completely mixed batch technique. Quantitative evaluation of the experimental results showed that the adsorption capacity of oxine impregnated activated carbon was higher than that of the virgin activated carbon for the three heavy metals. For oxine impregnated activated carbon, the Freundlieh distribution coefficient, kd , values were 23, 100, and 104 times larger than those of the virgin activated carbon for cadmium, copper, and zinc, respectively. Moreover, for oxine impregnated activated carbon, the kd values followed the sequence Cu 〉 Zn 〉 Cd which aggress well with the stability constants reported in the literature for the complexation of the three heavy metals with 8-Hydroxyquinoline.
