With the expansion of distributed generation systems and demand response programs, the need to fully utilize distribution system capacity has increased. In addition, the potential bidirectional flow of power on distribution networks demands voltage visibility and control at all voltage levels. Distribution system state estimations, however, have traditionally been less prioritized due to the lack of enough measurement points while being the major role player in knowing the real-time system states of active distribution networks. The advent of smart meters at LV loads, on the other hand, is giving relief to this shortcoming. This study explores the potential of bottom up load flow analysis based on customer level Automatic Meter Reading (AMRs) to compute short time forecasts of demands and distribution network system states. A state estimation frame-work, which makes use of available AMR data, is proposed and discussed.

This paper presents a recursive least square（RLS）estimation based technique to find the signal strength of the functional near infrared spectroscopy（fNIRS）as parameters of general linear model（GLM）.The proposed method uses the sampled version of the neuron’s hemodynamic response（design matrix）of the specific experimental *** results verify the effectiveness of the proposed technique by providing the activity levels at the measuring channels simultaneously while performing the motor-task *** real-time RLS based convergence of activity parameters effectively avoids the necessity of the long experiment as was required for the currently available off-line *** effectiveness of RLS and GLM based method is also verified by obtaining the equally acceptable results with unfiltered *** proposed method can be utilized for fNIRS based real-time brain imaging technology to cope the delay,inserted by the currently available off-line methods,in obtaining the medical diagnostic results.

The transient and steady-state stability of a single-machine infinite-bus（SMIB） power system is considered with the fluctuation of SMIB’s electric power,which is modeled as a sinusoidal *** taking the power-angle and angular velocity as the main states from Park’s equations for a synchronous generator,an output regulation design framework for power angle based on internal model controller is proposed to reject the disturbance of electric power and stabilize the power *** control scheme requires less feedback signals and achieves stabilization of SMIB subjected continuous disturbance with a wider range of the system’s operating conditions,which is essentially important for the stability of the large-scale multi-machines connected *** results of simulation at Matlab verify the effectiveness of the controller presented in the manuscript.

桔小实蝇是重要的检疫性害虫,可对水果产业造成巨大经济损失。本研究首先采用微卫星标记比较桔小实蝇不同地理种群间的遗传差异性,然后通过室内种间杂交试验,研究了两个相异地理种群(此前称谓的来自中国的桔小实蝇和来自马来西亚的木瓜实蝇)之间杂交后代在繁殖力、孵化率、发育历期、产卵管长度以及抗逆性等方面的适应性,结果表明桔小实蝇中国和马来西亚种群之间的遗传关系极为相近,不存在生殖隔离,但杂交后代在繁殖力、孵化率、幼虫发育情况、高蛹期抗逆性等方面均显著高于其亲本种群,产卵管长度则介于亲本的马来西亚种群和中国种群之间。上述杂交种的适应性特征分析表明,杂交后代可能具有比亲本更强的传播潜力,因此,本研究结果对于桔小实蝇相异地理种群的检疫防控提出了新的挑战。

目前,人们使用亮度计或照度计用于测量室内不同位置点的光貌,但这些基于点的光貌测量方法并不能准确地反应人对于实际光貌的视觉感知,所以亟需一种新型的测度计来有效测量特定照明条件下空间的光分布。本研究旨在提出一种基于仪器的、稳定可实现的色貌测量方法。国际照明组织的色貌模型CIECAM02经过一定的修正之后,被应用于对数字图像的各项色貌指标的预测。由于亮度为相对色温和Duv的函数,本文给出了CIECAM02明度计算的修正公式。通过三组实验的图像和原始数据对所提出模型的检测,结果显示,修正后的CIECAM02预测与视觉实验结果在三个测试试验中均表明显著相关。

Possible Chemosensitizing and Potent Anticancer Effects of D-Fraction in Combination with Vitamin C on Three Prevalent Urologic Cancer Cells

Chemotherapy is currently one of the most common therapeutic options for cancer patients despite the poor efficacy with considerable side effects. We then examined if D-fraction (DF), a bioactive mushroom extract, could potentiate (poor) anticancer effects of those drugs?in vitro. Three urologic cancers, prostate, bladder, and kidney cancers, were tested with various chemotherapeutic drugs and their combinations with DF. Compared to individual drugs alone, combinations of drugs and DF have improved anticancer activity, resulting in the significant (P < 0.05) cell viability reduction in all three cancer cells. As vitamin C (VC) has been postulated to potentiate the bioactivity of DF, this possibility was also examined. The specific combination of DF (300 μg/ml) and VC (200 μM) indeed led to the drastic (≥90%) viability reductions in all three cancer cells. To have a better understanding of such a profound viability reduction, the effect of DF/VC combination on cell cycle was examined next. Cell cycle analysis indicated that this combination induced a G1cell cycle arrest, which was also confirmed by the down-regulation of specific cell cycle regulators (CDK2, CDK4, and cyclin D1) detected on western blots. Moreover, it was crucial to address if the DF/VC-induced viability reduction could be also linked to apoptosis. Western blot analysis revealed that anti-apoptotic bcl-2 was down-regulated while pro-apoptotic Bax was up-regulated with DF/VC combination in all cancer cells, indicating induction of apoptosis. Therefore, the DF/VC combination could ultimately induce apoptosis, accounting for the severe cell viability reduction. In conclusion, DF appears to be a promising agent with chemosensitizing effect, enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapeutic drugs, and its combination with VC exhibits a potent anticancer effect, which is far superior to any combinations of drugs and DF tested in three prevalent urologic cancer cells.

Free-space optical (FSO) communication requires a line-of-sight connection between a transmitter and a receiver in which the information signal is modulated by an optical carrier that propagates in free space. The FSO channel is greatly affected by weather conditions such as fog, rain, and snow. In the literature, several adaptive techniques, such as power control (PC), have been suggested to mitigate channel link degradations. In this paper, we investigate the effects of snow and rain attenuation on the bit error rate (BER) of the FSO system using two types of modulations, the on-off keying (OOK) modulation and the pulse-position modulation (16-PPM). The effect of PC on the performance of FSO communications is also examined in this study. We evaluated the system’s performance with two types of snow, wet snow and dry snow, as well as with different rain regions. Results show that PC improves the BER of the FSO system;a high rate of improvement is found for wet snow and rain. PC has almost no effect with dry snow because of the high attenuation and the limitations on transmitted power. The BER for 16-PPM is better than that for OOK modulation.
