Background: Curculigo recurvata(C. recurvata) is an enthnomedicinally important herb reported to have significant medicinal values. The present study aimed to explore the in vivo and in silico anti-nociceptive and anti-diarrheal effects of a C. recurvate rhizome methanol extract(me-RCR).methods: The analgesic effects of me-RCR were assessed using acetic acid-induced writhing and the formalin-induced flicking test. The drugs were administered intraperitoneally(IP) at doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg body weight(bw). Anti-diarrheal activity was evaluated by assessing intestinal motility, hypersecretion, and fecal score in mice at oral doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg·bw. Computer facilitated analyses for anti-nociceptive and anti-diarrheal activities of three isolated compounds from C. recurvata were undertaken to identify the best-fit ***: The me-RCR showed significant(P malin-induced writhing test. In the castor oil-induced diarrhoea model, the extract significantly(P me of diarrhoea, inhibited percentage of diarrhoea, and decreased both the volume and weight of intestinal contents. Rates of intestinal fluid accumulation inhibition were(33.61 ± 1.00)% and(46.44 ± 0.89)% at me-RCR doses of 200 and 400 mg/kg·bw, respectively. moreover, a significant(P motility was observed. An absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and/or toxicity(ADmE/T) test showed that the selected compounds yielded promising results, satisfying Lipinski's rule of five for predicting drug-like potential. Notably, of the three phytoconstituents curculigine and isocurculigine possessed the highest affinity for the COX-1 and COX-2. A study was aimed to determine the biological status of the Indus river dolphin, Platanista minor Owen in Indus river with respect to distribution, threats and protection throughout its range in Northern Pakistan. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in an area of 103.5 km including the Indus river and its tributaries in march 2009 for estimating its distribution and population size using both direct observations of the dolphin as well as indirect evidences from its signs. The best group size was estimated with an abundance of 54 dolphins. Approximately 53.7% （1.07 dolphin＆m） of the dolphin-population occurred in 27 km from miran onward to Ramak, however, 38.9% （0.46 dolphin/km） occurred in 46 km from Dera Ismail （D.I.） Khan bridge to miran, moreover, 7.4% （0.13 dolphin/kin） occurred in 30.5 km from Saggu, near meetapur-village to D.I. Khan bridge in the Indus river. The highest density was found between miran and Ramk. A pronounced increase in dolphin encounter rate and abundance were observed in a downstream-direction. Threats to dolphins include too much vessel-traffic, disturbance by the crane, duck-hunters, and no effective-protection. Dolphins are particularly vulnerable to the high levels of anthropogenic activities because of their restricted habitat. Threats vary geographically in their importance, but generally include accidental killing during fishing-operations, habitat-loss and population-fragmentation from water development. Deliberate killing for dolphin products also threatens the dolphins. Potential for protections and possibilities for dolphin eco-tourism measures must be taken.

Parabens are antimicrobial preservatives with extensive applications in cosmetics,toiletries,pharmaceuticals,and *** the legitimate concerns relating to their potential to disrupt multiple endocrine functions,it becomes imperative to prioritize the development of innovative bioanalytical techniques for effectively monitoring their presence in biological *** this study,an efficient solvent bar microextraction(SBmE)was established,utilizing new hydrophobic deep eutectic solvents(DEs)to determine methylparaben and propylparaben in urine and plasma *** DEs comprising menthol and tris(2-ethylhexyl)phosphate(m-TEHP)at various molar ratios were synthesized for the first time to enhance the extraction capacity and promote the eco-friendliness of the DE used as an extraction ***-transform infrared(FT-IR)and proton nuclear magnetic resonance(1H NmR)spectroscopies were employed to confirm and investigate the properties of the successful synthesis(m-TEHP)DE at a molar ratio of 1:*** synthesized DE exhibits low microbial toxicity and can be considered an eco-friendly solvent for ***,quantum-chemical calculations were utilized to predict synthesized DE's structure and interaction energy with selected *** influential operational factors of DE-SBmE on the extraction efficiency(EE%)of both parabens were evaluated using response surface methodology based on central composite design,and a total of 30 extraction tests were conducted to determine the optimal *** optimized DE-SBmE,in combination with HPLC-dad,exhibited low detection limits(0.54–0.91μg L^(−1)),excellent linearity(R^(2)≥0.9993),precise results(RSDs≤7.6%),satisfactory recoveries(92–97%)and negligible matrix ***,it had remarkable effectiveness and applicability in determining selected parabens in real urine and plasma samples.

Group Exercise versus Personal Training for Prostate Cancer Patients: A Pilot Randomized Trial

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated psychosocial and physical benefit from exercise for older men treated with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for prostate cancer (PCa). To date, different intervention delivery methods have not been assessed. This study compared the effect of group-based exercise (GBE) to personal training (PT) in men undergoing ADT for PCa. methods: 13 participants (mean age = 68.2, SD = 7.2) were randomly assigned to GBE or PT for 8 weeks. Participants exercised for 60 minutes three times per week at a moderate-vigorous intensity. Results: 10 participants completed the intervention. At post-intervention, the PT group improved: fatigue, systolic BP, waist circumference, body fat percentage, and maximal leg strength;participants in the GBE group improved leg strength. At 8 weeks, maximal upper body strength in the PT group was greater than the GBE group. There were no adverse events associated with moderate-high intensity training in this population of older men. Conclusion: PT may be more efficacious than GBE in improving several physical fitness outcomes and fatigue in men with PCa who are androgen deprived. Due to the small sample size and attrition, these results require cautious interpretation and confirmation from adequately powered trials.

The ultrafast monitoring of deoxyribonucleic acid(DNA)dynamic structural changes is an emerging and rapidly growing research topic in *** existing optical spectroscopy used to identify different dynamical DNA structures lacks quick response while requiring large consumption of samples and bulky instrumental *** is highly demanded to develop an ultrafast technique that monitors DNA structural changes with the external stimulus or cancer-related disease ***,we demonstrate a novel photonic integrated graphene-optofluidic device to monitor DNA structural changes with the ultrafast response *** approach is featured with an effective and straightforward design of decoding the electronic structure change of graphene induced by its interactions with DNAs in different conformations using ultrafast nanosecond pulse laser and achieving refractive index sensitivity of~3×10^(−5) *** innovative technique for the first time allows us to perform ultrafast monitoring of the conformational changes of special DNA molecules structures,including G-quadruplex formation by K+ions and i-motif formation by the low pH *** graphene-optofluidic device as presented here provides a new class of label-free,ultrafast,ultrasensitive,compact,and cost-effective optical biosensors for medical and healthcare applications.

Summary：A multi-centred study was designed to collect dengue epidemiologic data from government and registered private hospitals/clinics and maintained archive of frozen specimens in bio-bank to be used for future dengue epidemic control program, and assess the epidemiology of dengue fever（DF） by evaluating biochemical and oxidative status of patients. ELISA Ig m antibodies test was done to confirm DF. From August 2010 to December 2011, 101 confirmed blood samples of DF patients referred to pathology lab of Jinnah Hospital Lahore were subjected to the epidemiologic assessment by evaluating the biochemical and physiological indices and alterations of circulating antioxidants. Clinical features of DF patients and effect of fever on blood components and serum proteins of liver were recorded. The hospital stay in DF, dengue hemorrhagic fever（DHF） and dengue shock syndrome（DSS） showed significant difference. Significant increases in serum alanine amino transferase（ALT）（P=0.000）, aspartate amino transferase（AST）（P=0.000）, alkaline phosphatase（ALP）（P=0.000）, malondialdehyde（mDA） along with significant decreases in total protein（TP）（P=0.000）, reduced glutathione（GSH）（P=0.000）, superoxide dismutase（SOD）, catalase（CAT）（P=0.000）, and sialic acid contents（P=0.016） were observed. A positive correlation existed between bound sialic acid levels, liver enzymes and circulating antioxidants（r=0.656, P=0.016）. In the present study, alterations of circulating antioxidants in DF suggest that DF might be a metabolic response to an acute, self-limiting tropical viral infection, and a consequence of the viral inflammatory process.

Heavily doped colloidal plasmonic nanocrystals have attracted great attention because of their lower and adjustable free carrier densities and tunable localized surface plasmonic resonance bands in the spectral range from near-infra to mid-infra *** its plasmon-enhanced optical nonlinearity,this new family of plasmonic materials shows a huge potential for nonlinear optical applications,such as ultrafast switching,nonlinear sensing,and pulse laser ***3-xP nanocrystals were previously shown to have a strong saturable absorption at the plasmonic resonance,which enabled high-energy Q-switched fiber lasers with 6.1μs pulse *** work demonstrates that both high-quality mode-locked and Q-switched pulses at 1560 nm can be generated by evanescently incorporating two-dimensional(2D)Cu3-xP nanocrystals onto a D-shaped optical fiber as an effective saturable *** 3 dB bandwidth of the mode-locking optical spectrum is as broad as 7.3 nm,and the corresponding pulse duration can reach 423 *** repetition rate of the Q-switching pulses is higher than 80 ***,the largest pulse energy is more than 120μ*** that laser characteristics are highly stable and repeatable based on the results of over 20 *** work may trigger further investigations on heavily doped plasmonic 2D nanocrystals as a next-generation,inexpensive,and solution-processed element for fascinating photonics and optoelectronics applications.
