BACKGROUND Atraumatic restorative treatment(ART)may be appropriate for populations without accessibility and *** data are required regarding the success rate of ART in anterior *** To evaluate the clinical performance of restoring class III cavities in anterior teeth of permanent dentition using the ART *** A longitudinal interventional field study was carried out at two rural primary health centers,Tumkur district,India.A total of 54 teeth in 39 patients were evaluated for the survival rate of class III restorations in permanent anterior teeth using the ART approach in children and adult *** of ART restoration was carried out using Frencken J criteria,the mean procedure time,patient acceptance and reported pain severity during the ART approach were evaluated using a visual analog *** of the cost of ART was also *** The mean time taken to perform the ART procedure was 14.79±5.8 min with the majority of patients reporting only mild *** 6 mo follow-up,72.2%remained in a good state,but this reduced to 27%at 12 *** cumulative survival rate of the restorations was 94.4%at 6 mo and 80.9%at 12 mo *** of the direct cost for a single class III restoration was 186.50 INR(2.64 USD).CONCLUSION ART may be a good comprehensive option for basic oral health care for underserved or inaccessible populations,and preventive care for patients.

Delayed seed dispersal species and related traits in the desert of the United Arab Emirates

The ability of plants to safely retain seeds in the mother plant is an adaptive mechanism described in many desert ***,research about delayed seed dispersal species in the desert of the United Arab Emirates(UAE)is *** study aims to identify these delayed seed dispersal species and assess the relationships of the presence of delayed seed dispersal with plant growth form,habit,spatial dispersal,antitelechoric mechanism,and seed release *** relationships between the presence of delayed seed dispersal and the above studied traits were assessed by using the Pearson Chi-square test and Nonlinear Principal Components Analysis(NLPCA).Results showed that a total of 46 delayed seed dispersal species were recorded(15.0%of 307 studied species)and the highest incidence occurred in the Fabaceae family(17.4%).Delayed seed dispersal species were predominantly perennial plants(73.9%)with spatial restricted dispersal(67.4%),which released seed in the dry season(45.7%).The dominant groups of delayed seed dispersal species were persistent fruits species and synaptospermy(28.3%).All graminoids showed persistent lignified fruits,while prostrate annuals were basicarpic species with *** habitats had the highest number of delayed seed dispersal species(54.3%),whereas salt flats had the lowest(23.9%).In the desert of the UAE,delayed seed dispersal species spread seeds until the end of the dry and windy season,thus breaking seed dormancy at this time and ensuring seed germination in the next arrival of the rainy *** morphological and ecological adaptation of delayed dispersal species is essential to the survival and sustainable development of vegetation in desert environments.

Spot urinary sodium for assessing dietary sodium restriction in cirrhotic ascites

AIM： To evaluate the accuracy of spot urinary Na/K and Na/creatinine （Cr） ratios as an alternative to 24-h urinary sodium in monitoring dietary compliance in patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites treated with diuretics. METHODS： The study was carried on 40 patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites treated with diuretic therapy. Patients were divided into two groups according to 24-h urinary sodium. We measured spot urine Na/K ratio, Na/ Cr ratio and 24-h urinary sodium. Student＇s t test was used to compare the interval variables and x^2 test to compare the nominal variables between the two groups. Receiver operator characteristic curve was used to identify the best cutoff point for Na/K and Na/Cr ratio. RESULTS： The best cutoff point for Na/K ratio was 2.5 （P 〈 0.001） and area under the curve （AUC） was 0.9, and for Na/Cr ratio, the best cutoff point was 35 （P 〈 0.001） and AUC was 0.885. Na/K ratio showed higher sensitivity and accuracy compared to Na/Cr ratio （87.5% and 87% for Na/K ratio; 81% and 85% for Na/Cr ratio, respectively）. CONCLUSION： Spot urine Na/K ratio has adequate accuracy for assessment of dietary sodium restriction compared with 24-h urinary sodium in patients with liver cirrhosis and ascites.

In the present study, we aimed to determine the quality of different brands(Test1–Test6) of mefenamic acid, which are commercially available in local market of Karachi, Pakistan. Various quality evaluation tests, including weight variation, hardness, thickness, friability, disintegration, assay and drug release, were carried out. Results were found to be in acceptable limits. Moreover, release profiles were compared using different dissolution media, such as phosphate buffer pH 6.8, 7.4 and biorelevant media(FaSSGF, FaSSIF, FeSSIF and SCoF). Release profiles at pH 6.8 and 7.4 were evaluated by one--way ANOVA, model-independent and model--dependent methods. Results of ANOVA showed that no significant difference was found among tester and reference brands(Test1–Test6). Similarly, all the brands were found to be best fitted with Weibull model.

Since Type 1 diabetes(T1DM)occurs whenβ-cells mass is reduced to less than 20%of the normal level due to autoimmune destruction of cells resulting in the inability to secrete insulin,preservation or replenishment of the functionalβ-cells mass has become a major therapeutic focus for this diabetic type ***,this 4-week work plan was designed to determine which mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs)type is more appropriate to alleviate pancreatic hazards resulting from diabetes induction;via tracking a comparative study between MSCs derived from adipose tissue(AD-MSCs)and from bone marrow(BM-MSCs)in management of T1DM considering their immunomodulatory,anti-apoptotic and antioxidative *** were divided randomly into 4 groups;control,STZdiabetic(D),D+AD-MSCs,and D+BM-MSCs *** stem cells types in this study were ***,both oxidative stress and antioxidant markers were evaluated using colorimetric analysis,while inflammatory,immune and apoptotic markers were assessed through flow cytometric *** showed that diabetic rats treated with either AD-MSCs or BM-MSCs exhibited marked pancreatic antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities that were able to initiate pancreatic immunomodulation and reducingβ-cells apoptotic death,thus,help to restore their normal insulin secretion and hypoglycemic ***,AD-MSCs injection was shown to be superior as a pancreatic regenerative tool in overcoming diabetes;owing to their marked antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,immunomodulatory,and anti-apoptotic characteristics over BM-MSCs treatment.

Effect of Supportive Measures Guidelines on Nurses’ Practices during Labor

Objectives: To investigate the effect of supportive measures guidelines on nurses’ practices during labor. Methods: A quasi-experimental design (an interventional pre and post-test study). Setting: The study was conducted at obstetric wards and intrapartum units at Nasser Institute Hospital. Sample: All nurses provide guided direct care, there were 40 nurses included in the study. Tools: Three tools were used to collect data named self-administered questionnaire sheet, labor supportive measures’ observational checklists, and nurses’ satisfaction sheet. Results: There was a highly significant improvement in total knowledge and total practical skills among the studied sample pre-intervention compared to immediate post and follow-up intervention (p ≤ 0.01). Additionally, 95% of the studied sample was satisfied with the advanced knowledge included in the guidelines. Conclusion: The supportive measures guidelines had an efficient improving nurses’ knowledge and practices post-intervention. Also, the majority of the studied sample was satisfied with the implemented guidelines. Recommendations: Implementation of labor supportive measure guidelines in different childbirth units to improve nurses’ practice. Further research is required to investigate parturient woman’s satisfaction with the childbirth process after implementing labor supportive measures and the effect of labor supportive measures on childbirth process outcome.
