The ecological impacts of urbanization and eutrophication on zooplankton communities in urban waterbodies have recently gained wide *** findings vary across species and urban *** the development of such changes affects the variation of biotic assemblages has only been explored to a limited extent in tropical urban *** and temporal variations of zooplankton community structure in 11 urban waterbodies in the Klang Valley,Malaysia were investigated along trophic and urbanization *** and water quality samples were collected three times,between May and November 2017,from two different locations in each *** three main zooplankton groups(rotifera,copepoda,and cladocera)were recorded from the study areas throughout the sampling *** zooplankton community structure,particularly with regard to rotifers and cladocerans,varied between lakes and *** diversity does not vary with lake size or distance from the city center but does vary with shoreline development index and urbanization *** zooplankton populations were dominated by rotifers,mainly Brachionus angularis at all study sites during the study period followed by copepods and *** total density of zooplankton was significantly highest(pshoreline development,with rotifers as a potential bioindicator of trophic state in urban tropical lakes,due to their close relationship with TP.

Hydrogen is an alternative energy source that has the potential to replace fossil *** of the hydrogen applications is as a material for Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cells(PEMFC)in fuel cell ***-purity hydrogen can be obtained using a hydrogen separation membrane to prevent unwanted contaminants from potentially harming the PEMFC *** this study,we fabricated a plasma membrane reactor and investigated the permeation performance of a hydrogen separation membrane in a plasma membrane reactor utilizing atmospheric pressure *** result showed the hydrogen permeation rate increasing with time as reactor temperature is increased through joule *** decreasing the gap length of the reactor from 2 to 1 mm,the hydrogen permeation rate increases by up to 40%.The hydrogen permeation rate increases by 30%when pressure is applied to the plasma membrane reactor by up to 100 kPa.

Agricultural crop abandonment negatively impacts local economy and environment since land,as a resource for agriculture,is not optimally *** take necessary actions to rehabilitate abandoned agricultural lands,the identification of the spatial distribution of these lands must be *** optical images had previously illustrated potentials in the identification of agricultural land abandonment,tropical areas often suffer cloud coverage problem that limits the availability of the ***,this study was conducted to investigate the potential of ALOS-1 and 2(Advanced Land Observing Satellite-1 and 2)PALSAR(Phased Array L-band Synthetic Aperture Radar)images for the identification and classification of abandoned agricultural crop areas,namely paddy,rubber and oil palm *** crop phenology for paddy and rubber was identified from ALOS-1 PALSAR;nonetheless,oil palm did not demonstrate any useful phenology for discriminating between the abandoned *** accuracy obtained for these abandoned lands of paddy,rubber and oil palm was 93.33%±0.06%,78%±2.32%and 63.33%±1.88%,*** study confirmed that the understanding of crop phenology in relation to image date selection is essential to obtain high accuracy for classifying abandoned and non-abandoned agricultural *** finding also portrayed that PALSAR offers a huge advantage for application of vegetation in tropical areas.

Background:Due to its clinically proven safety and health benefits,functional electrical stimulation(FES)cycling has become a popular exercise modality for individuals with spinal cord injury(SCI).Since its inception in 2013,the Cybathlon championship has been a platform for publicizing the potential of FES cycling in rehabilitation and exercise for individuals with *** study aimed to evaluate the contribution of the Cybathlon championship to the literature on FES cycling for individuals with SCI 3 years pre and post the staging of the Cybathlon championship in ***:Web of Science,Scopus,ScienceDirect,IEEE Xplore,and Google Scholar databases were searched for relevant studies published between January 2013 and July *** quality of the included studies was objectively evaluated using the Downs and Black ***:A total of 129 articles on FES cycling were retained for analysis.A total of 51 articles related to Cybathlon were reviewed,and 14 articles were ultimately evaluated for the *** 2017,the year following the Cybathlon championship,Web of Science cited 23 published studies on the championship,which was almost 5-fold more than that in 2016(n=5).Training was most often reported as a topic of interest in these studies,which mostly(76.7%)highlighted the training parameters of interest to participating teams in their effort to maximize their FES cycling performance during the Cybathlon ***:The present study indicates that the Cybathlon championship in 2016 contributed to the number of literature published in 2017 on FES cycling for individuals with *** finding may contribute to the lessons that can be learned from participation in the Cybathlon and potentially provide additional insights into research in the field of race-based FES cycling.

Complexes of La （III）, Nd（III）, Gd（III）, Sm（III）, and Ce（IV） were synthesized with Schiff base [（3,5-di-tert-butyl-2-hy- droxybenzyl） amino] acetic acid （H3L）. The ligand and its complexes were synthesized and characterized based on the following analysis： elemental analyses, FAB-mass, molar conductance measurements, magnetic measurement, UV-visible, IR, and NMR spectral studies. The spectral data revealed that the ligand acted as a neutral tridentate coordinating to metal ion through ONO donor sequence. Thermal degradation studies of the ligand and its complexes showed that the previous lanthanide complexes were more thermally stable than the ligand itself. The Schiff base and its complexes were screened for their antibacterial （Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus） and antifungal （Aspergillus flavus and Candida Albicans）.

Interference-Aware Multipath Routing Protocol for QoS Improvement in Event-Driven Wireless Sensor Networks

The existing multipath routing protocols for wireless sensor networks demonstrate the efficacy of traffic distribution over multiple paths to fulfill the Quality of Service （QoS） requirements of different applications. However, the performance of these protocols is highly affected by the characteristics of the wireless channel and may be even inferior to the performance of single-path approaches. Specifically, when multiple adjacent paths are being used concurrently, the broadcast nature of wireless channels results in inter-path interference which significantly degrades end-to-end throughput. In this paper, we propose a Low- Interference Energy-efficient Multipath Routing protocol （LIEMRO） to improve the QoS requirements of event-driven applications. In addition, in order to optimize resource utilization over the established paths, LIEMRO employs a quality-based load balancing algorithm to regulate the amount of traffic injected into the paths. The performance gain of LIEMRO compared to the ETX-based single-path routing protocol is 85%, 80%, and 25% in terms of data delivery ratio, end-to-end throughput, and network lifetime, respectively. Furthermore, the end-to-end latency is improved more than 60%.

Haze episodes have become a major concern in Malaysia over the past few decades and have an increasingly important impact on the country each and every year. During haze episodes from biomass burning in Southeast Asia, particularly from Sumatra, Indonesia, particulate matter PM2.5 is found to be one of the dangerous sources of airborne pollution and is known to seriously affect human health. This study determines the composition of carbohydrates （as levoglucosan）, surfactants, major elements, and anions in PM2.5 during a 2013 haze episode. PM2.5 samples were collected from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, using a high volume sampler during a seven-day monitoring campaign during the peak of that year＇s haze episode. PM2.5 concentrations ranged between 14.52 and 160.93 μg/m3, exceeding the 2005 WHO air quality guidelines for PM2.5 （25 μg/m3 for 24-h mean）. The patterns for levoglucosan, surfactants, major elements, and anionic compositions were proportional to the PM2.5 concentrations. Changes in PM2.5 observed on days 3 and 4 were influenced by a combination of meteorological factors, which substantiate the theory that such factors play a pivotal role in haze episodes.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Andrographis paniculata(Burm.f.) Wall. Ex Nees(A. paniculata) on expressions and activities of catalase, superoxide dismutase and alkylhydroperoxide reductase C in Staphylococcus aureus(S. aureus) with respect to its survival in vitro. Methods: Antioxidative property of methanolic leaves extract of A. paniculata(0.06 mg/m L). Minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) was determined by its ability to reduce hydrogen peroxide(H_2O_2) toxicity against S. aureus ATCC 25923(3.8×10~8 cfu/m L). Effects of the extract on expressions of kat A(encoding catalase), sod A and sod M [encoding superoxide dismutases(SODs)], and ahp C [encoding alkylhydroperoxide reductase C(AhpC)] in S. aureuswere determined by RT-q PCR and corresponding enzyme activity assays were performed. Nitroblue tetrazolium reduction(NBT) assay was performed to determine effects of the extract on intracellular and extracellular levels of O_2-in S. aureus. Results: Cells challenged with 7.5 mmol/L H_2O_2 showed 0% survival in 30 min whereas 25% survived after treatment with the extract and H_2O_2. Cells that were treated with the extract alone had 43% survival in the same exposure period. Expressions of sod A and sod M genes in extract-treated cells were lowered 0.8-fold and 0.7-fold, respectively with decrease in total SOD activity of 26.8 U compared to untreated cells, 32.4 U(Pshowed 3.3-fold increase in kat A expression with corresponding increase in catalase activity of 1.828 U compared to untreated cells which was 1.248 U,(P<0.05). More profoundly, ahp C expression was increased 61-fold in extract-treated cells,(P<0.05) with corresponding increase in Ahp C activity of 0.018 U compared to untreated cells, 0.012U,(P<0.05). Extract-treated cells had significantly lower intra-and extracellular O_2-levels with absorbance readings(A_(575nm)) of 0.340 and 0.524 compared to untreated cells which were 0.516 and 0.928(P<0.05)
