AIM:To compare the effects of yellow(577 nm)subthreshold micropulse laser(SML)and intravitreal(IV)anti-vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)treatment in patients with diabetic macular edema(DME)with relatively better visual acuity[best corrected visual acuity(BCVA)≤0.15 log MAR].METHODS:The medical records of 76 eyes of 47 patients underwent IV(0.5 mg)anti-VEGF injection or SML for the DME with relatively better BCVA were *** IV group received three consecutive monthly IV anti-VEGF injections,then were retreated as *** laser treatment group was treated at baseline and 3 mo,and then retreated at 6 and 9 mo if *** participants were followed up for one *** mean BCVA and mean central macular thickness(CMT)values changes over the follow-up were ***:Twenty-four and 23 patients were assigned to the SML and IV subgroups,*** mean number of treatments was 3.64±0.76 in SML group and 5.85±1.38 in IV group(P<0.05).The subgroups were similar with regard to the mean BCVA score at baseline and at the 1st and 3rd months,but the score of SML group was better than that of IV group at the 6th,9th,and 12th months(P<0.05).The decrease in the mean CMT values from baseline values was higher in SML group at the 6th,9th,and 12th months(P<0.05).CONCLUSION:Yellow SML treatment is superior to IV anti-VEGF injection in DME patients with relatively better BCVA for increasing visual acuity and decreasing CMT at 6,9,and 12 *** can be a good alternative first-line therapy for DME with BCVA≤0.15 log MAR.

目的:研究老年性黄斑变性(AMD)等级、血清抗氧化维生素水平(维生素A、C和E)和吸烟的关系。方法:对84例患者行黄斑彩色眼底成像,根据AMD损伤率和损伤程度将其分为五组(等级I^V)。应用高效液相色谱法(HPLC)测量血清抗氧化维生素水平。根据吸烟状况分不吸烟者、已戒烟者和吸烟者三组,并统计吸烟者每年的吸烟总量。结果:对照组中,维生素A、E、C水平分别为0.874±0.326mg/L,10.739±4.874mg/L和1.737±0.447mg/L,AMD组中分别为0.880±0.305mg/L,9.487±6.060mg/L和1.870±2.191mg/L,无显著差异(P>0.05)。AMD不同等级分组间维生素A(P=0.881)和E(P=0.293)水平差异无统计学意义,维生素C水平(P=0.044)随AMD程度的加深而增加。根据吸烟状况,AMD组与对照组之间无显著差异。根据每年的吸烟总量,两组之间有显著差异(P=0.02)。AMD越严重,年吸烟总量越高(P=0.007)。结论:研究结果显示AMD与维生素A、E血清水平无关,但和维生素C的血清水平相关,并与吸烟量有关。

目的：探讨土耳其配戴助视器的低视力患者的病因和特点,及其与父母近亲结婚是否有关系。方法：回顾性研究了2009/2013年间伊斯坦布尔诊所接受236例低视力患者。分析年龄、性别分布、低视力原因、近亲结婚、低视力辅助类型规定及视力变化。在回顾性研究中,根据世界卫生组织定义基于最佳矫正视力将视力分为（失明,视力〈20/400；视力严重受损,视力〈20/200～20/400；视力轻度到中度受损,视力〈20/60～20/200）。基于双眼主要病因,根据国际疾病分类第十版可以确定失明和低视力的病因。根据视力和患者需求规定了视力辅助,并使用平均值依标准差和频率对数据进行了描述。结果：研究包括236例患者,65%为男性,平均年龄为38.5依24.2岁（年龄范围6～95岁）,男性多于女性。年龄在15～30岁（35.6%）之间是最大的年龄群体。轻度至中度视力受损患者为122例,严重视力受损患者为84例,失明患者为30例,他们分别占总人数的51.6%、35.6%和12.7%。脉络膜疾病和视网膜疾病（62.7%）是导致视力低下的主要原因。老年低视力患者黄斑变性逐渐成为视力低下的首要原因（61.3%）。造成视力低下的原因有视网膜和脉络膜疾病（62.7%）,眼球震颤（23.7%）,视神经和视神经束疾病（11%）,先天性白内障（0.8%）及青光眼（1.7%）。88例患者（37.3%）为伽利略类型,116例患者（49.2%）为开普勒类型。18例患者（7.6%）在接受LVA后视力无明显改善。14例患者被准许使用放大镜矫正视力。在大多数患者中,使用LVA的近视和远视患者视力均得到改善。62例近亲结婚患者占总人数的26.3%。结论：14岁以上患者视力受损主要原因是视网膜和脉络膜疾病,15岁以下的患者常见原因为眼球震颤。在近亲结婚群体中黄斑营养不良和色素性视网膜炎患者显著增高。研究疾病病因学的遗传非常有效,因此,近亲结婚在土耳其仍是一大问题。

The purpose of this study was to identify and compare the degradation efficiencies of free and entrapped bacterial consortia(Staphylococcus capitis CP053957.1 and Achromobacter marplatensis MT078618.1)to different polymers such as Sodium Alginate(SA),Sodium Alginate/Poly(Vinyl Alcohol)(SA/PVA),and Bushnell Haas Agar(BHA).In addition to SA and SA/PVA,which are cost-effective,non-toxic and have different functional groups,BHA,which is frequently encountered in laboratory-scale studies but has not been used as an entrapment material until *** on these,the polymers with different surface morphologies and chemical compositions were analyzed by SEM and *** the petroleum removal efficiency was higher with the entrapped bacterial consortia than with the free one,BHA-entrapped bacterial consortium enhanced the petroleum removal more than SA and SA/***,the degradation rate of bacterial consortia entrapped with BHA was 2.039 day^(-1),SA/PVA was 1.560,SA was 0.993,the half-life period of BHA-entrapped bacterial consortia is quite low(t_(1/2)=0.339)compared with SA(t_(1/2)=0.444)and SA/PVA(t_(1/2)=0.697).The effects of the four main factors such as:amount of BHA(0.5,1,1.5,2,2.5,3 g),disc size(4,5,6,7,8 mm),inoculum concentration(1,2.5,5,7.5,10 mL),and incubation period on petroleum removal were also *** maximum petroleum removal(94.5%)was obtained at≥2.5 mL of bacterial consortium entrapped in 2 g BHA with a 7 mm disc size at 168 h and the results were also confirmed by statistical *** a decrease was observed during the reuse of bacterial consortium entrapped in BHA,the petroleum removal was still above 50%at 10th *** on GC-MS analysis,the removal capacity of BHA-entrapped consortium was over 90%for short-chain n-alkanes and 80%for medium-chain ***,the obtained data are expected to provide a potential guideline in cleaning up the large-scale oil pollution in the *** there has been no similar stud

Numerical Prediction of Total Resistance Using Full Similarity Technique

Model tests are often conducted by researchers in a real or a numerical towing tank to calculate residuary resistance of a ship with the aid of Froude similarity. Common ITTC-1957 formula is usually employed to calculate frictional resistance. As computer technologies develop over time, CFD tools are used for calculating total resistance of a ship at full scale without establishing any dynamic similarities. In this paper, both Froude and Reynolds similarities are numerically implemented to four different model scales by using virtual fluids. The total resistance at different Fr numbers calculated by the numerical study is validated against the experimental data of DTMB 5512 (L=3.048 m) model hull. The results show that establishing Froude and Reynolds similarities together in numerical simulation is possible in principle. To determine whether it has advantages for prediction of full-scale ship total resistance by employing this method, it is also examined the model scale with the same number of elements and Reynolds number of the full-scale ship. Results show that numerical calculation of total resistance for a full-scale ship in a model scale by defining virtual fluids has only slight advantages on the prediction of residuary resistance. Additionally, no advantage in the calculation of frictional resistance is observed.

In this study,non-cavitating and cavitating flow around the benchmark DTMB 4119 model propeller are solved using both viscous and potential based *** and non-cavitating propeller radiated noises are then predicted by using a hybrid method in which RANS(Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes)and FWH(Ffowcs Williams Hawkings)equations are solved together in open water *** cavitation on the propeller blades is modelled by using a VOF(Volume of Fiuld)method equipped with Schnerr-Sauer cavitation ***,tip vortex cavitation noise is estimated by using two different semi-empirical techniques,namely Tip Vortex Index(TVI,based on potential flow theory)and Tip Vortex Contribution(TVC).As the reference distance between noise source and receiver is not defined in open water case for TVI technique,one of the outputs of this study is to propose a reference distance for TVI technique by coupling two semi-empirical techniques and ITTC distance *** the defined distance,the starting point of the tip vortex cavitation is determined for different advance ratios and cavitation numbers using potential flow ***,it is examined that whether the hybrid method and potential flow solver give the same noise results at the inception point of tip vortex *** show that TVI method based on potential flow theory is reliable and can practically be used to replace the hybrid method(RANS with FWH approach)when tip vortex cavitation starts.

The relatively small size of thin （one or few layers） graphene flakes makes it extremely difficult to study the behavior of suspended graphene by characterization techniques other than the electron microscopies. Herein, we exploited the capability of spatially resolved photoemission in combination with high resolution transmission electron microscopy to investigate the interaction of thermally evaporated Pt atoms on suspended and supported graphene. Spectroscopic and microscopic analyses reveal that the nucleation of nanometer- sized Pt particles in these two regions exhibit different trends. While only small nanometer-sized islands are present on the supported graphene, relatively larger clusters of islands were also found on the suspended flakes. The X-ray photoemission C ls core levels acquired after the Pt deposition show an increase in the number of vacancies in the graphene sheets.

Investigation of Microstructure, Microhardness and Thermal Properties of Ag-In Intermetallic Alloys Prepared by Vacuum Arc Meltings

Ag-In intermetallic alloys were produced by using vacuum arc furnace. Differential Scanning Calorimetry(DSC) and Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectrometry(EDX) were used to determine the thermal properties and chemical composition of the phases respectively. Microhardness values of Ag-In intermetallics were calculated with Vickers hardness measurement method. According to the experimental results, Ag-34 wt%In intermetallic system generated the best results of energy saving and storage compared to other intermetallic systems. Also from the microhardness results, it was observed that intermetallic alloys were harder than pure silver and Ag-26 wt%In system had the highest microhardness value with 143.45 kg/mm^(2).

Evaluating the safety of intracameral bevacizumab application using oxidative stress and apoptotic parameters in corneal tissue

·AIM: To investigate the possible effects of intracameral bevacizumab on oxidative stress parameters and apoptosis in corneal tissue.·METHODS: In total, 30 rats were assigned randomly into the following three groups of 10 rats each: a sham group(Group 1; n =10), a control group [Group 2;balanced salt solution(BSS) was administered at 0.01 m L;n =10], and a treatment group(Group 3; bevacizumab was administered at 0.25 mg/0.01 m L; n =10). The total antioxidant status(TAS) and the total oxidant status(TOS) in the corneal tissue and blood samples were measured, and the oxidative stress index(OSI) was calculated. Additionally, corneal tissue histopathology was evaluated for caspase-3 and 8 staining and apoptotic activity.·RESULTS: In the blood samples, the TAS, TOS, and OSI levels were not significantly different(all P >0.05).Compared with the sham and control groups, the TOS and OSI levels in the corneal tissues were significantly different in the bevacizumab group(all P 0.05).However, compared with the sham and control groups,greater immunohistochemical staining for caspases-3and 8 and an elevated level of apoptotic activity were observed in the bevacizumab group.·CONCLUSION: This study revealed that intracameral bevacizumab injections seemed to be systemically safe but may have elicited local toxic effects in the corneal tissue, as indicated by the oxidative stress parameters and histopathological evaluations.

Ionosphere is the layer of atmosphere which plays an important role both in space based navigation,positioning and communication systems and HF signals. The structure of the electron density is a function of spatio-temporal variables. The electrodynamic medium is also influenced with earth’s magnetic field, atmospheric chemistry and plasma flow and diffusion under earth’s gravitation. Thus, the unified dynamo equation for the ionosphere is a second order partial differential equation for quasi-static electric potential with variable spatial coefficients. In this study, the inhomogeneous and anisotropic nature of ionosphere that can be formulated as a divergence equation is solved numerically using Finite Volume Method for the first time. The ionosphere and the operators are discretized for the midlatitude region and the solution domain is investigated for Dirichlet type boundary conditions that are built in into the diffusion equation. The analysis indicates that FVM can be a powerful tool in obtaining parametric electrostatic potential distribution in ionosphere.
