Phosalone-induced inflammation and oxidative stress in the colon: evaluation and treatment

AIM: To investigate the side effects of phosalone on intestinal cells and to evaluate benefits of ellagic acid(EA) as a ***: In order to conduct an in vivo study, a rat model was used. The rats were divided into ten groups based on the materials used in the experiment and their dosage. The first group was fed normally. The second group was administered EA through gavage. Next Four groups were given(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone; an organophosphorus compound. The last four groups received(1/3, 1/5, 1/10, 1/20) LD50 phosalone and of EA. After one month, the rats were sacrificed and their colon cells were examined to evaluate the level of inflammation, proteins and oxidative stress ***: The results of this research show that phosalone elevates oxidative stress and changes the level of tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-α), interlukin-6β(IL-6β) and nuclear factor(NF)-κB proteins. EA administration reduced phosalone toxicity and changed oxidative stress and inflammatory markers for all phosalone doses. Overall changes in reduction of TNF-α(230.47 ± 16.55 pg/mg protein vs 546.43 ± 45.24 pg/mg protein, P < 0.001), IL-6β(15.85 ± 1.03 pg/mg protein vs 21.55 ± 1.3 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05), and NF-κB(32.47 ± 4.85 pg/mg protein vs 51.41 ± 0.71 pg/mg protein, P < 0.05) manifest that the efficacy of EA is more viable for 1/3 LD50 dose of phosalone. Furthermore, EA is effective to counteract the negative outcomes of oxidative stress. When EA was used to treat 1/3 LD50 of phosalone's side effects, it improved the level of ACh E activity(48.5% ± 6% vs 25% ± 7%, P < 0.05), TTM(0.391 ± 0.008 mmol/L vs 0.249 ± 0.032 mmol/L, P < 0.05), FRAP(46.04 ± 5.005 μmol/L vs 18.22 ± 1.9 μmol/L, P < 0.01) and MPO(0.222 ± 0.019 U/mg protein vs 0.387 ± 0.04 U/mg protein, P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: This research highlights that EA is effective to alleviate the side effects of phosalone by reducing the level of oxidative stress and inflammatory proteins.

A survey of biochemical and acute phase proteins changes in sheep experimentally infected with Anaplasma ovis

Objective: To determine the biochemical and acute phase proteins changes in sheep experimentally infected with Anaplasma ovis(A. ovis). Methods: One Iranian sheep naturally infected with A. ovis(parasitemia 0.02%) but with no other blood parasites based on blood smear and polymerase chain reaction methods was selected as donor, and it was splenectomized to induce high level of parasitemia. Then, three weeks after splenectomy when parasitemia was 6%, donor's blood was intravenously administered to each recipient animal. Five 5-6 months old Iranian male sheep without any blood parasites were selected as recipient animals. The percent of parasites, packed cell volume, serum biochemical parameters(urea, creatinine, bilirubin, aspartate aminotransferase activity, cholesterol, total protein, albumin, globulin, Fe), acute phase proteins(haptoglobin, total iron binding capacity, fibrinogen), were evaluated in sheep before and after being experimentally infected with A. ovis(until day 38). In addition, body weights of sheep were measured on days 0, 20 and 38. Results: In recipient sheep, microscopic examination of erythrocytes revealed a significant rise of parasitemia on days 12 and 15. The lowest level of packed cell volume in sheep was seen on day 15 post infection. A significant rise existed in mean urea and bilirubin(total, direct and indirect) on days 15 and 20. The increase of indirect bilirubin level was higher than direct bilirubin. Furthermore, serum Fe significantly increased on days 20 and 23. The mean total protein concentration significantly increased on day 38. A significant increase was found in the serum globulin concentration from days 20 and 27 to 38. Maximum values of haptoglobin were observed on days 27 and 30. Moreover, aspartate aminotransferase activity(from days 20-30) and cholesterol concentration(on day 20) significantly decreased. Characterization of B site codoped LaFeO_3 nanoparticles prepared via co-precipitation route

LaFe（1-x-y）CoxPdyO3 [（x, y） =（0, 0）,（0.40, 0）,（0.38, 0.05）] nanoparticles were synthesized via a co-precipitation route using ammonium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide and ammonium carbonate as the precipitant and calcination at different temperatures to study the compositional driven structural changes in lanthanum *** of X-ray diffraction（XRD） patterns confirms the formation of single-phase perovskite structure and existence of orthorhombic Pnma symmetry for calcined powders. Field emission scanning electron microscope（FESEM） observations show that Pd-doped powders yield finer particles along with narrower particle size distribution compared with LaFeO3 and LaFe（0.6）Co（0.4）O3. Moreover,using ammonia as the precipitant leads to a smaller mean particle size of powders compared to NaOH, as well as significant difference in morphology of the *** analysis reveals that both Co and Pd atoms substitute Fe site in perovskite structure with shifting of phonon modes. Comparing Raman spectra demonstrates the presence of more oxygen vacancies in Pd-doped perovskites. It can be concluded from the results that Pd is successfully incorporated into the perovskite structure by co-precipitation method.

The influence of silane coupling agent and poplar particles on the wettability, surface roughness, and hardness of UF-bonded wheat straw(Triticum aestivum L.)/poplar wood particleboard

We used silane coupling agents to improve the bonding ability between wheat straw particles and UF resin, and investigated surface properties （wettability and surface roughness） and hardness of parti-cleboard made from UF-bonded wheat straw （Triticum aestivum L.） combined with poplar wood as affected by silane coupling agent content and straw/poplar wood particle ratios. We manufactured one-layered particleboard panels at four different ratios of straw to poplar wood par-ticles （0%, 15%, 30% and 45% wheat straw） and silane coupling agent content at three levels of 0, 5% and 10%. Roughness measurements, average roughness （Ra）, mean peak-to-valley height （Rz）, and root mean square roughness （Rq） were measured on unsanded samples by using a fine stylus tracing technique. We obtained contact angle measurements by using a goniometer connected to a digital camera and computer sys-tem. Boards containing greater amounts of poplar particles had superior hardness compared to control samples and had lower wettability. Panels made with higher amounts of silane had lower Rq values.

Comparison of Spatial Interpolation Methods for Gridded Bias Removal in Surface Temperature Forecasts

All numerical weather prediction（NWP） models inherently have substantial biases, especially in the forecast of near-surface weather variables. Statistical methods can be used to remove the systematic error based on historical bias data at observation stations. However, many end users of weather forecasts need bias corrected forecasts at locations that scarcely have any historical bias data. To circumvent this limitation, the bias of surface temperature forecasts on a regular grid covering Iran is removed, by using the information available at observation stations in the vicinity of any given grid point. To this end, the running mean error method is first used to correct the forecasts at observation stations, then four interpolation methods including inverse distance squared weighting with constant lapse rate（IDSW-CLR）, Kriging with constant lapse rate（Kriging-CLR）, gradient inverse distance squared with linear lapse rate（GIDS-LR）, and gradient inverse distance squared with lapse rate determined by classification and regression tree（GIDS-CART）, are employed to interpolate the bias corrected forecasts at neighboring observation stations to any given location. The results show that all four interpolation methods used do reduce the model error significantly,but Kriging-CLR has better performance than the other methods. For Kriging-CLR, root mean square error（RMSE）and mean absolute error（MAE） were decreased by 26% and 29%, respectively, as compared to the raw forecasts. It is found also, that after applying any of the proposed methods, unlike the raw forecasts, the bias corrected forecasts do not show spatial or temporal dependency.

Selective Sensing Characteristics of Ca Doped BeO Nano-sized Tube toward H20 and NH3

By means of density functional calculations, the structural and electronic properties of chemical modification of pristine and Ca-doped BeO nanotubes were investigated with NH3 and H20 molecules. It was found that the NH3 and H20 molecules can be adsorbed on the Be atom of the tube sidewall with the adsorption energies of about 36.1 and 39.0 kcal/mol, respectively. Density of states analysis shows that the electronic properties of the BeONT are slightly changed after the adsorption processes. Substitution of a Be atom in the tube surface with a Ca atom increases the adsorption energies by about 7.4 and 14.7 kcal/mol for NH3 and H20, respectively. Unlike the pristine tube, the electronic properties of Ca-doped BeONT are sensitive to NH3 and H20 molecules. Also, the Ca-doped tube is much more sensitive to H20 molecule than NH3 one.
