Woody Species Diversity and Forest Structure from Lowland to Montane Forest in Hyrcanian Forest Ecoregion

Alborz Mountains host Caspian Hyrcanian forest ecoregion along the northern slopes and forest steppe ecoregion in highlands. Hyrcanian forest covers the southeastern part of Caucasus biodiversity hotspot and is of great biogeographic importance. Altitudinal pattern and correlation between woody species biodiversity （DIV）, forest structure （（stem density （DEN）, mean basal area （MBA） and mean height class （MHC）） and disturbance （DIS） were explored along 2,4oo m altitudinal gradient in Hyrcanian relict forest, Central Alborz Mountains. Vegetation changes from lowland forest （LoF） to mid- altitude forest （MiF） and montane forest （MoF） in this area. The altitudinal gradient was divided into twelve 200 m elevational belts. Point centered quarter method （PCQM） with 96 sampling points and 83 vegetation samples by plot method （PM） were used to record field data. Shannon-Wiener index and Pearson coefficient were used for diversity and correlation analysis. The results showed that DEN decreased linearly, MBA and MHC showed relatively hump shaped and DIS showed a reverse hump shaped pattern of change along altitudinal gradient. Woody species diversity decreased non-steadily from LoF to MoF. Transitional vegetations of Carpinus-Fagus and Fagus-Quercus represented higher diversity of woody taxa compared to adjacent homogenous communities. Significant correlation was observed between altitude and all parameters： DEN with MBA, DIS and DIV; MBA with DIS; MHC with DIS along with DIV; and DIS with DIV at the study area scale. Surprisingly,correlation between studied parameters differed within each vegetation type. Altitude probably acts as a proxy for human and environmental driving forces in this area. Stability of warm and wet condition, season length, soil depth along with forest accessibility probably influences the altitudinal pattern of the studied parameters. Theoretical framework of the Isfahani style: Inspiring sustainable aspects of a vernacular urban development

The Isfahani style represents a method of traditional Iranian architecture and urban development that existed in the early 20th century and is regarded as a leading model in most traditional Iranian cities. It exhibits several vigorous features contributing to its recognition as a traditional approach to sustainable architecture and urban development. This research endeavors to reveal a theoretical framework beneath these inspiring aspects using the typology of sustainable modern forms, including the hierarchy, passive design strategies, compactness, density, diversity, mixed land use, pluralism, balance, good composition, and integration over time. To this end, the study employs qualitative research methods, drawing from traditional samples, to identify innovative, energy and socially efficient, and low-impact strategies implemented in this vernacular architecture of Iran's semi-arid and hot climates. The findings revealed that the neighborhood concept as a local and plural community (Mahalla) was a vital phenomenon in Iran's urban development. Apparently, the demise of this paradigm effectively played an important role in the numerous challenges regarding the social, energy, and economic viability of modern Iranian cities. Hence, this study presented theoretical frameworks—aligned with sustainable concepts—from the Isfahani style through its analysis, classification, and interpretation, which can contribute to modern urban development.

A survey of incidental ocular trauma by pencil and pen

AIM：To determine characteristic features of ocular trauma resulted from self-trauma by writing instruments among pediatric ***：Thirty-six children who suffered from selfinflicted ocular trauma with a writing instrument were included in this prospective cross-sectional ***：The mean age was 5.6±2.7y with male：female ratio of *** right eye was involved two times more than the left *** superomedial（55.5%）and inferomedial（30.6%）quadrants were the most common sites of *** leading culprit was colored pencils（44.4%）.During surgical exploration,no foreign body（FB）was found in 25（69.4%）patients while an FB was found in 11（30.5%）*** injury was present in two patients（5.6%）and only in superomedial quadrant *** 1 was the most common site for ocular trauma associated with penetrating *** mean ocular trauma score（OTS）in penetrating injuries was 3.8±*** best corrected visual acuity（BCVA）was 0.3±0.6 upon admittance and 0.08±0.21 after one *** final BCVA was significantly correlated with the entrance site,better final BCVA was found in nasal entrance site（P〈0.05）.CONCLUSION：The ophthalmologists should keep a high index of suspicion to rule out penetrating eye injuries related to writing instruments in a young uncooperative *** injury is a life-threatening event that should be ruled out by appropriate *** canthal area as the most common site needs an especial attention in writing instrument injuries.

Ocular higher-order aberrations and mesopic pupil size in individuals screened for refractive surgery

AIM: To study the distribution of ocular higher-order aberrations(HOAs) and mesopic pupil size in individuals screened for refractive surgery. · METHODS: Ocular HOAs and mesopic pupil size were studied in 2 458 eyes of 1 240 patients with myopia, myopic astigmatism and compound myopic astigmatism and 215 eyes of 110 patients with hyperopia, hyperopic astigmatism and compound hyperopic astigmatism using the Zywave aberrometer (Busch& Lomb). All patients had correctable refractive errors without a history of refractive surgery or underlying diseases. Root-mean-square values of HOAs, total spherical aberration, total coma and mesopic pupil size were analyzed. Ocular HOAs were measured across a ≥ 6.0 mm pupil, and pupil size measurements were performed under the mesopic condition. · RESULTS: The mean values of HOAs, total spherical aberration and total coma in the myopic group were 0.369 μm, ±0.233, 0.133±0.112μm and 0.330±0.188μm, respectively. In the hyperopic group the mean values of HOAs, total spherical aberration and total coma were 0.418μm±0.214, 0.202±0.209μm and 0.343±0.201μm, respectively. Hyperopes showed greater total HOAs (P <0.01) and total spherical aberration (P <0.01) compared to myopes. In age-matched analysis, only the amount of total spherical aberration was higher in the hyperopic group (P =0.05). Mesopic pupil size in the myopic group was larger (P ≤0.05). · CONCLUSION: The results suggested that significant levels of HOAs were found in both groups which are important for planning refractive surgeries on Iranians. There were significantly higher levels of total spherical aberration in hyperopes compared to myopes. Mesopic pupil size was larger in myopic group.

Fuzzy logic classification of mature tomatoes based on physical properties fusion

Grading of fruits and vegetables is an initial step after *** is also an essential operation before *** the present study,different fuzzy algorithms for classifica-tion of mature tomato were applied and evaluated based on combinations of fruit color,size and *** membership functions of hardness were established by subject-ing samples to Instron compression test as well as the rates of *** sample was also used for image processing to determine the color and size of fruit using Matlab image processing *** and size fuzzy membership functions were established by pub-lished *** fuzzy If-Then rules were applied to classify the samples within five group outputs viz.“grade I”,“grade II”,“grade I-far market”,“processing”,and“storage”.Eighty-one fuzzy rules were reduced to 25 rules by combining the compatible *** fuzzy algorithms with different fuzzifiers(zmf,sigmf,gbellmf)and defuzzifiers(bisector,mom,and centroid)were applied,and the outputs were compared to the panelists’classi-fications in cross *** to the classification results,fuzzy algorithms grouped the fruits into correct classes with 90.9%,92.3%,88.7%,87.4%,92.4%and 93.3%accuracy for 6 models,*** best result was observed with zmf and sigmf,and gbellmf as fuzzifier and mom as defuzzifier with 93.3%***,the results revealed that the fusion of aforementioned tomato properties based on fuzzy membership functions could accurately classify the tomatoes in correct groups for different markets.

Reversible logic has recently gained significant interest due to its inherent ability to reduce energy dissipation,which is the primary need for low-power digital *** of the newest areas of relevant study is reversible logic,which has applications in many areas,including nanotechnology,DNA computing,quantum computing,fault tolerance,and low-power complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor(CMOS).An electrical circuit is classified as reversible if it has an equal number of inputs and outputs,and a one-to-one relationship.A reversible circuit is conservative if the EXOR of the inputs and the EXOR of the outputs are *** addition,quantum-dot cellular automata(QCA)is one of the state-of-the-art approaches that can be used as an alternative to traditional ***,we propose an efficient conservative gate with low power demand and high speed in this ***,we present a reversible gate called ANG(Ahmadpour Navimipour Gate).Then,two non-resistant QCA ANG and reversible fault-tolerant ANG structures are implemented in QCA *** suggested reversible gate is realized through the Miller ***,reversible fault-tolerant ANG is implemented by the 2DW clocking ***,the power consumption of the suggested ANG is assessed under different energy ranges(0.5Ek,1.0Ek,and 1.5Ek).Simulations of the structures and analysis of their power consumption are performed using QCADesigner 2.0.03 and QCAPro *** proposed gate shows great improvements compared to recent designs.

Vegetation composition differentiation and species-environment relationships in the northern part of Isfahan Province, Iran

A considerable proportion of Iran＇s territory is covered with arid and semi-arid rangelands and mismanagement and overexploitation of those rangelands have resulted in serious ecological degradation. Thus, the need is pressing to examine the present species composition and the relationships with environmental factors for providing the needed scientific references to species conservation and ecological rehabilitation efforts. The aims of this study were to examine the species composition and to delineate the most important factors influencing the distributions of plant species and groups in the northern rangelands of Isfahan Province （Iran） using two-way indicator species analysis （TWINSPAN）, detrended correspondence analysis （DCA）, principal component analysis （PCA）, and canonical correspondence analysis （CCA）. Field investigations were conducted in the growing season of 2014 using stratified random method in 22 homogeneous sampling units. In total, 75 plant species belonging to 52 genera and 19 families were identified. The most important families were Asteraceae and Papilionaceae, the most important genera were Astragalus, Cousinia, and Acanthophyllum, and the most important species were Artemisia aucheri and Artemisia sieberi. Plant species were classified into 10 groups using TWINSPAN. DCA was used to estimate the magnitude of changes in species composition along the first two ordination axes to provide gradient length estimations for PCA and CCA ordinations. The first three PCA axes and the first three CCA axes demonstrated similar cumulative percentage of variance, indicating that the environmental factors （selected by PCA） used in CCA ordination were acceptable for explaining the species composition and the distributions. Excess mortality in Northeast Iran caused by COVID-19:Neglect of offset community transformations of health

Objective:To make evidence-based decisions based on broad mortality trends for Razavi Khorasan province,***:In order to determine the baseline number of deaths,we used univariate time series analyses for monthly data from the monthly vital statistics reports(From April 2015 to March 2022).For excess mortalities,these baselines were subtracted from reported deaths with a 95%prediction *** compare time and causes,a P-score was ***:From March 2020 to March 2022,there were 61949 registered deaths,and the estimated deaths with a 95%confidence interval(CI)were 43246.16(35718.28,50774.05).So,in 2020-2021 and 2021-2022,the death counts were 35.15%and 51.33%higher than projected.A total of 18666 cardiovascular diseases were reported and a total of 15704.46(12006.95,19401.96)was *** P-score for this duration was 14.49%and 23.23%higher than *** and parasitic diseases plus COVID-19 were 16633 and estimated to be 1044.87(456.77,1632.96).A total of 4420 diseases of the respiratory system were reported,and 4564.94 deaths were predicted(2277.43,6852.43).In the first year of the pandemic,the P-score dropped to-35.28%and in the second year,it jumped sharply to 22.38%.Conclusions:Excess mortality,along with cause-specific mortality,can be helpful for monitoring trends and developing public health policies at the local,national,and international levels.
