Some ecological attributes of malarial vector Anopheles superpictus Grassi in endemic foci in southeastern Iran

Larvicidal Properties of Botanical Extracts of <i>Lawsonia inermis</i>against <i>Anopheles stephensi</i>

The aim of this study was to determine the larvicidal activity of Lawsonia inermis against Anopheles stephensi as the main malaria vector in Iran. This study was carried out from February to July 2011. Larvicidal activity of >L. inermis was studied in the range of 4 - 4000 PPM in the laboratory against early and late stages of larvae of An. stephensi. The larvae were reared in the?insectarium. The LC50 and LC90 values of the larval stages of An. stephensi were calculated by probit analysis and regression line draw using Microsoft office excel 2003 software. The highest toxic effect of L. inermis was found at 4000 PPM and the lowest at 4 PPM against larval stages I and II. The same result was found against larval stages III and IV. The LC50 and LC90 was found as 413.8 and 3366.3 respectively against larval stages I and II while against late stages found as 696.9 and 3927.7 respectively. This study suggests that L. inermis extract can be used as an alternative larvicidal compound during the IPM programs for the An. stephensi control. It is recommended to investigate the competency of other similar plants to malaria control.

Theoretical framework of the Isfahani style: Inspiring sustainable aspects of a vernacular urban development

The Isfahani style represents a method of traditional Iranian architecture and urban development that existed in the early 20th century and is regarded as a leading model in most traditional Iranian cities. It exhibits several vigorous features contributing to its recognition as a traditional approach to sustainable architecture and urban development. This research endeavors to reveal a theoretical framework beneath these inspiring aspects using the typology of sustainable modern forms, including the hierarchy, passive design strategies, compactness, density, diversity, mixed land use, pluralism, balance, good composition, and integration over time. To this end, the study employs qualitative research methods, drawing from traditional samples, to identify innovative, energy and socially efficient, and low-impact strategies implemented in this vernacular architecture of Iran's semi-arid and hot climates. The findings revealed that the neighborhood concept as a local and plural community (Mahalla) was a vital phenomenon in Iran's urban development. Apparently, the demise of this paradigm effectively played an important role in the numerous challenges regarding the social, energy, and economic viability of modern Iranian cities. Hence, this study presented theoretical frameworks—aligned with sustainable concepts—from the Isfahani style through its analysis, classification, and interpretation, which can contribute to modern urban development.

Immersion of scaffolds in Simulated Body Fluid(10SBF)is a standardized method for evaluating their bioactivity,simulating in vivo conditions where apatite deposits can be formed on the surface of scaffold,facilitating bone integration and ensuring their suitability for bone implant purposes,ultimately contributing to long-term implant *** effect of apatite deposition on bioactivity and cell behavior of TiO_(2)scaffolds was *** were soaked in 10SBF for different durations to form HAP layer on their *** results proved the development of a hydroxyapatite film resembling the mineral composition of bone Extracellular Matrix(ECM)on the TiO_(2)*** XRD test findings showed the presence of hydroxyapatite layer similar to bone at the depth of 10 nm.A decrease in the specific surface area(18.913 m^(2)g^(−1)),the total pore volume(0.045172 cm^(3)g^(−1)(at p/p0=0.990)),and the mean pore diameter(9.5537 nm),were observed by BET analysis which confirmed the formation of the apatite *** was found that titania scaffolds with HAP coating promoted human osteosarcoma bone cell(MG63)cell attachment and *** seems that immersing the scaffolds in 10SBF to form HAP coating before utilizing them for bone tissue engineering applications might be a good strategy to promote bioactivity,cell attachment,and implant fixation.

Intelligent solubility estimation of gaseous hydrocarbons in ionic liquids

The research focuses on evaluating how well new solvents attract light hydrocarbons, such as propane,methane, and ethane, in natural gas sweetening units. It is important to accurately determine the solubility of hydrocarbons in these solvents to effectively manage the sweetening process. To address this challenge, the study proposes using advanced empirical models based on artificial intelligence techniques like Multi-Layer Artificial Neural Network(ML-ANN), Support Vector Machines(SVM), and Least Square Support Vector Machine(LSSVM). The parameters for the SVM and LSSVM models are estimated using optimization methods like Genetic Algorithm(GA), Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO), and Shuffled Complex Evolution(SCE). Data on the solubility of propane, methane, and ethane in various ionic liquids are collected from reliable literature sources to create a comprehensive database. The proposed artificial intelligence models show great accuracy in predicting hydrocarbon solubility in ionic liquids. Among these, the hybrid SVM models perform exceptionally well, with the PSO-SVM hybrid model being particularly efficient computationally. To ensure a comprehensive analysis, different examples of hydrocarbons and their order are included. Additionally, a comparative analysis is conducted to compare the AI models with the thermodynamic COSMO-RS model for solubility analysis. The results demonstrate the superiority of the AI models, as they outperform traditional thermodynamic models across a wide range of data. In conclusion, this study introduces advanced artificial intelligence algorithms such as ML-ANN, SVM, and LSSVM in accurately estimating the solubility of hydrocarbons in ionic liquids. The incorporation of optimization techniques and variations in hydrocarbon examples improves the accuracy, precision, and reliability of these intelligent models. In this study,we successfully synthesized Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag nanocomposites(NCPs) using the ultrasonicmediated sol-gel technique to create a multifunctional material with enhanced photocatalytic and antibacterial *** visible light photocatalytic activities of Er_(2)TiO_(5) nanoparticles(NPs) and Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs were systematically evaluated under various conditions,including different concentrations of Basic Blue 41(BB 41) dye and *** results reveal a remarkable improvement in the photocatalytic degradation efficiency of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs(95%) compared to Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs(80%).Furthermore,the antibacterial efficacy of Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs and Er2TiO_5@Ag NCPs were extensively examined against Gram-positive and Gram-negative ***,Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs exhibit significantly higher minimum bactericidal concentration(MBC) values compared to Er_(2)TiO_(5) *** antibacterial effect of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs is particularly pronounced against *** and Pseudomonas aeruginosa,while demonstrating moderate effects on Escherichia coli and Enterococcus *** assess the biocompatibility of the synthesized materials,we investigated their internalization by MCF-7 ***,both Er_(2)TiO_(5) NPs and Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs are found to be effectively internalized by the cells,suggesting their potential application in biomedical ***,our study unveils the exceptional potential of Er_(2)TiO_(5)@Ag NCPs as a dual-action solution,simultaneously possessing enhanced photocatalytic efficiency and potent antibacterial *** multifunctional nanocomposite not only outperforms Er_(2)TiO_(5) and Ag but also paves the way for innovative applications in sustainable environmental remediation and advanced biomedical technologies,promising a brighter and cleaner future.

Sacrificial piles as a countermeasure against local scour around underwater pipelines

Local scour around pipelines crossing rivers or in marine environments is a significant *** can lead to failure of the pipelines resulting in environmental side effects and economic *** study developed an experimental method to reduce local scour around pipelines with a steady flow of clear water by installing cylindrical and cubical sacrificial *** sizes of sacrificial piles were examined in a linear *** piles were installed on the upstream side of the pipeline at three *** scour depth reduction rates below the pipeline were *** results showed that sacrificial piles could protect a pipeline from local scour.A portion of scoured sediment around the sacrificial piles was deposited beneath the *** sediment accumulation reduced the scour depth beneath the *** of the experimental results demonstrated that the size of piles(d),the spacing between piles,and the distance between the pipe and piles(Xp)were the variables that reduced the maximum scour beneath the pipeline with a diameter of *** the piles with d=0.40D and 0.64D,X_(p)=4OD was the optimal distance to install a group of piles,and cubical piles could mitigate scour more effectively than cylindrical piles under similar *** the piles with d=D,the greatest reduction in scour depth was achieved at X_(p)=50D with any desired spacings between piles,and cylindrical piles in this dimension could protect the pipeline against scour more effectively than cubical piles.
