From a financial point of view,urbanization frequently enforces the clients to construct superstructures near the slopes,giving rise to increasing the risk of building *** conducting a series of small-scale plate load tests,this work aims to investigate the effects of installing geotextile reinforcement layers in sandy slope and reducing the apex angle of triangular shell strip *** results show considerable effect of using geotextile-reinforced layers and decreasing the apex angle on the ultimate bearing capacity of shell *** increasing foundation distance from the slope,the adverse effect of the slope is ***,as the distance decreases,the effect of reinforcement and apex angle is *** practical applications,empirical equations are also presented for determining the ultimate bearing capacity of the footings and scale effect as ***,3D numerical simulations are executed and compared with the experimental results.

A brief review on biconical tapered fiber sensors for biosensing applications is presented. A variety of configurations and formats of this sensor have been devised for label free biosensing based on measuring small refractive index changes. The biconical nonadiabatic tapered optical fiber offers a number of favorable properties for optical sensing, which have been exploited in several biosensing applications, including cell, protein, and DNA sensors. The types of these sensors present a low-cost fiber biosensor featuring a miniature sensing probe, label-free direct detection, and high sensitivity.

Prevalence of hepatitis C virus infection and its related risk factors in drug abuser prisoners in Hamedan-Iran

AIM:Recent studies in Iran has shown that prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among Iranian prisoners is high, in spite of low HCV seroprevalence in general population. METHODS: This study was carried out in the central prison of Hamedan - Iran, in year 2002. Inmates were interviewed using a standard questionnaire including demographic, imprisonment history and HCV-related risk behaviors items. Thereafter, the sera drawn from the participants were tested for anti-HIV and anti-HCV antibodies. RESULTS: A total number of 427 drug abuser inmates participated in our study. Three hundred and ninety-seven (93%) were men and 30 (7%) were women. Total number of IV drug abusers (IDA) and non-IV drug abusers (NIDA) was 149 (34.9%) and 278 (65.1%), respectively. The overall rate of antibody positivity among inmates was 0.9% for HIV and 30% for HCV. Of all IDAs, 31.5% and of NIDAs, 29.1% had serological evidence of HCV infection. CONCLUSION: The seroprevalence of HCV infection among drug abuser prisoners in comparison with the general population in Iran, is very high (30% vs in italics 0.2%). Our results indicate the importance of policies to prevent transmission of HCV infection during and following incarceration.

AIM： To investigate the relationships between polymorphisms of interleukin-1R receptor antagonist genes and susceptibility to chronic hepatitis B in Iran population. METHODS： Genomic DNA was extracted from the peripheral blood of 80 patients with chronic hepatitis B （57 males, 23 females） aged 12-77 years （mean 36.1 ± 13.8 years） and 147 normal controls （96 males, 51 females） aged 6-75 years （mean 41 ± 18.7 years） who referred to a liver clinic of Tehran and then subjected to polymerase chain reaction （PCR） amplification. PCR products were resolved on a 3% agarose gel and stained with ethidium bromide. RESULTS： Only three of the five kinds of polymorphism （2/2, 2/4, and 4/4） were found in this study. The frequencies of 2/2, 2/4, and 4/4 were 12.5%, 17.5%, 70% respectively in chronic hepatitis B patients and 6.8%, 24.5%, and 68.7% respectively in controls. IL-1 R allele 2 was detected in 30% of chronic hepatitis B patients and in 31.3% of controls, while IL-1 R allele 4 was detected in 87.5% of chronic hepatitis B patients and in 93.2% of controls. The frequency of IL-1R alleles 2 and 4 was detected in 21.25% and 78.75% of the patients and 19.04% and 80.96% of the controls, respectively. CONCLUSION： Our results suggest that the carriage of IL-1R receptor antagonist alleles 2, 4, 6 may not play any role in the development of HBV infection. Large population-based studies are needed to investigate the role of IL-1 polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of developing chronic hepatitis B.

Adsorption of Fe(III) from Aqueous Solution by Linde Type-A Zeolite

Linde Type-A (LTA) zeolite was prepared from sodium aluminate and sodium metasilicate by hydrothermal process precursors. Sodium metasilicate prepared from molten NaOH and SiO2. The zeolite was characterized by FTIR, XRD, XRF and SEM. The adsorption of Fe(III) from aqueous solution by zeolite A was studied. Different parameters like contact time, pH and concentration of iron were investigated. The results show that at contact time of 60 min and pH of 6 maximum adsorption of iron onto zeolite was observed. The kinetic data was analyzed using pseudo-first-order and pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The adsorption kinetics of Fe(III) were fitted well with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model.

The Elist Drain Retainer: A New Adherent Drain Retainer with Antibacterial Properties

Background: Surgical drains are used in at least half of all surgical operations world-wide. The gold standard for the fixation of drains to the skin is currently the “Roman garter” (RG) technique, which involves knotting a suture around the drain. Its disadvantages include the time to perform the technique, possible loosening and accidental removal, and bacterial infection with biofilm formation if left in place for weeks. Methods: The Elist Drain Retainer (EDR) has been developed, and it consists of a short plastic tube bent to 90° with a side slit for the drain, fixed to a mounting patch with adhesive and an antiseptic. Results: In a clinical trial comparing 25 drain attachments with the RG versus 25 drain attachments with the new EDR, the former took an average of five minutes and the EDR took an average of one minute to place. Loosening occurred in five (20%) drains and accidental removal occurred in four (16%) for the RG group versus no incidences of loosening or accidental removal in the EDR group. Self-removal of the EDR was possible for seven (28%) patients. Conclusion: The EDR demonstrated a clear advantage over the RG in all tested parameters. The lack of instruments and the possibility of self-removal of the EDR when a drain is needed are particularly advantageous features.

Alginate scaffold has been considered as an appropriate biomaterial for promoting the differentiation of embryonic stem cells toward neuronal cell lineage. We hypothesized that alginate scaffold is suitable for culturing Wharton’s jelly mesenchymal stem cells（WJMSCs） and can promote the differentiation of WJMSCs into neuron-like cells. In this study, we cultured WJMSCs in a three-dimensional scaffold fabricated by 0.25% alginate and 50 m M Ca Cl2 in the presence of neurogenic medium containing 10 μM retinoic acid and 20 ng/m L basic fibroblast growth factor. These cells were also cultured in conventional two-dimensional culture condition in the presence of neurogenic medium as controls. After 10 days, immunofluorescence staining was performed for detecting β-tubulin（marker for WJMSCs-differentiated neuron） and CD271（motor neuron marker）. β-Tubulin and CD271 expression levels were significantly greater in the WJMSCs cultured in the three-dimensional alginate scaffold than in the conventional two-dimensional culture condition. These findings suggest that three-dimensional alginate scaffold cell culture system can induce neuronal differentiation of WJMSCs effectively.

页岩气评价方法及关键参数研究表明,仅靠技术指标来寻找地质甜点并不能实现页岩气的商业经济开发。通过将总有机碳含量、镜质体反射率等技术指标与内部收益率、投资回收期等经济指标相结合,提出一套经济指标和技术指标相结合的研究方法,用以筛选页岩气未开发区的最佳技术经济开发甜点。采用该方法通过总有机碳含量、镜质体反射率、有效储集层厚度和含气量等参数筛选21个地质甜点。再基于类比研究法,以压力梯度、黏土矿物含量、埋藏深度等参数为类比依据,选择Eagle Ford页岩为类比对象,提取采收率和生产曲线两项指标,估算研究区的技术可采储量。在此基础上,结合内部收益率、投资回收期等经济指标评价地质甜点的经济性。应用这套多参数综合评价方法,对伊朗卢雷斯坦地区白垩系页岩气储集层S_(1)层和S_(2)层进行评估,确定该区域的最佳技术经济开发甜点。结果表明,在净现值取其P_(10)值(累计概率10%时对应的参数值)的情况下,技术可采储量和经济可采储量总量分别为7875×10^(8)m^(3)和4306×10^(8)m^(3),有11个地质甜点具有商业开发价值,其中1号甜点价值最高,净现值为35×10^(8)美元。
