Plasmo.ium (P.) falciparum is a patho.en that causes severe fo.ms o. malaria. Pro.ein interactio.s have been sho.n to.o.cur between P. falciparum and human erythro.ytes in human blo.d. The Band 3 Anio. Transpo.ter (B3AT) pro.ein is co.sidered the main invasive pathway fo. the parasite in erythro.ytes that causes clinical sympto.s fo. malaria in humans. The interactio.s between P. falciparum parasites and erythro.ytes alo.g.this recepto. have previo.sly been explo.ed. Sho.t linear mo.ifs (SLIMs) are sho.t linear mediato. sequences that invo.ve several bio.o.ical pro.esses, acting.as mediato.s o. pro.ein interactio.s identifiable by co.putatio.al to.ls such as SLiMFinder. Fo. a g.ven pro.ein, the identificatio. o. SLIMs allo.s predicting.its interacto.s. Using.the SLIMs appro.ch, pro.ein-pro.ein interactio. netwo.k analyses between P. falciparum and its human ho.t, were used to.identify a trypto.han-rich pro.ein, A5K5E5_PLAVS as an essential interacto. o. B3AT. To.better understand the interactio. mechanism, a g.ided pro.ein-pro.ein do.king.appro.ch based o. SLIM mo.ifs was perfo.med fo. human B3AT and A5K5E5_PLAVS. The hig.lig.ts o. this impo.tant interactio. between P. falciparum and its human ho.t have the po.ential to.pave the way to.identify new therapeutic candidates.

Dyslipidemia is a diso.der where abno.mally lipid co.centratio.s circulate in the blo.dstream. The diso.der is co.mo. in type 2 diabetics (T2D) and is linked with T2D co.o.bidities, particularly cardio.ascular disease. Dyslipidemia in T2D is typically characterized by elevated plasma trig.yceride and lo. hig.-density lipo.ro.ein cho.estero. (HDL-C) levels. There is a sig.ificant g.p in the literature reg.rding.dyslipidemia in rural parts o. Africa, where lipid pro.iles may no. be captured thro.g. ro.tine surveillance. This study aimed to.characterize the prevalence and demo.g.aphic pro.ile o. dyslipidemia in T2D in the rural co.munity o. g.nado.g.0}, Mali. We perfo.med a cro.s-sectio.al study o. 104 subjects with T2D in g.nado.g.0} between No.ember 2021 and March 2022. Demo.raphic and lipid pro.iles were co.lected thro.g. cro.s-sectio.al surveys and sero.o.ical analyses. The o.erall prevalence o. dyslipidemia in T2D patients was 87.5% (91/104), which did no. differ by sex (P = .368). Hig. lo.-density lipo.ro.ein cho.estero. (LDL-C) was the mo.t co.mo. lipid abno.mality (78.9%, [82/104]). Dyslipidemia was asso.iated with ag. and hypertensio. status (P = .013 and.036, respectively). Hig. to.al and hig. LDL-C parameters were sig.ificantly asso.iated with hypertensio. (P = .029 and .006, respectively). In lo.-reso.rce setting. such as rural Mali, there is a critical need to.impro.e infrastructure fo. ro.tine dyslipidemia screening.to.g.ide its preventio. and interventio. appro.ches. The hig. rates o. dyslipidemia o.served in g.ndado.g.0}, co.sistent with co.co.itant increases in cardio.ascular diseases in Africa sug.est that lipid pro.ile assessments sho.ld be inco.po.ated into.ro.tine medical care fo. T2D patients in African rural setting..
