AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of custom-made soft keratoconus(KC)lenses on corneal aberrations and photic phenomena in two different optical zones in patients with ***:Sixty eyes of 42 patients with KC were examined at baseline and after fitting HydroCone(Toris K)soft silicone hydrogel *** spectacle-corrected visual acuity(BSCVA)and contact lens-corrected visual acuity(CLCVA)were ***-and higher-order corneal aberrations(LOAs and HOAs)were measured with and without Toris K lenses and compared in central 4.5 mm and 7 mm *** pupil diameter and subjective photic phenomena were also ***:Mean CLCVA was significantly improved compared to BSCVA(P6.00 mm(85.7%).CONCLUSION:Toris K lenses provide good visual results and a significant reduction in central corneal aberrations in patients with KC but could cause an increase in peripheral *** practical and nonsurgical approach appears to be an effective method for the visual management of KC.

The extent of the peril associated with cancer can be perceivedfrom the lack of treatment, ineffective early diagnosis techniques, and mostimportantly its fatality rate. Globally, cancer is the second leading cause ofdeath and among over a hundred types of cancer;lung cancer is the secondmost common type of cancer as well as the leading cause of cancer-relateddeaths. Anyhow, an accurate lung cancer diagnosis in a timely manner canelevate the likelihood of survival by a noticeable margin and medical imagingis a prevalent manner of cancer diagnosis since it is easily accessible to peoplearound the globe. Nonetheless, this is not eminently efficacious consideringhuman inspection of medical images can yield a high false positive rate. Ineffectiveand inefficient diagnosis is a crucial reason for such a high mortalityrate for this malady. However, the conspicuous advancements in deep learningand artificial intelligence have stimulated the development of exceedinglyprecise diagnosis systems. The development and performance of these systemsrely prominently on the data that is used to train these systems. A standardproblem witnessed in publicly available medical image datasets is the severeimbalance of data between different classes. This grave imbalance of data canmake a deep learning model biased towards the dominant class and unableto generalize. This study aims to present an end-to-end convolutional neuralnetwork that can accurately differentiate lung nodules from non-nodules andreduce the false positive rate to a bare minimum. To tackle the problem ofdata imbalance, we oversampled the data by transforming available images inthe minority class. The average false positive rate in the proposed method isa mere 1.5 percent. However, the average false negative rate is 31.76 *** proposed neural network has 68.66 percent sensitivity and 98.42 percentspecificity.

Since the introduction of the Internet of Things(IoT),several researchers have been exploring its productivity to utilize and organize the spectrum *** radio(CR)technology is characterized as the best aspirant for wireless communications to augment IoT *** the CR networks,secondary users(SUs)opportunistically get access to the primary users(PUs)spectrum through spectrum *** multipath issues in the wireless channel can fluster the sensing ability of the individual ***,several cooperative SUs are engaged in cooperative spectrum sensing(CSS)to ensure reliable sensing *** CSS,security is still a major concern for the researchers to safeguard the fusion center(FC)against abnormal sensing reports initiated by the malicious users(MUs).In this paper,butterfly optimization algorithm(BOA)-based soft decision method is proposed to find an optimized weighting coefficient vector correlated to the SUs sensing *** coefficient vector is utilized in the soft decision rule at the FC before making any global *** effectiveness of the proposed scheme is compared for a variety of parameters with existing schemes through simulation *** results confirmed the supremacy of the proposed BOA scheme in both the normal SUs’environment and when lower and higher SNRs information is carried by the different categories of MUs.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus has spread worldwide,and millions of people are being *** or detection classification is one of the first application areas of deep learning,which has a significant contribution to medical image *** classification detection,one or more images(detection)are usually used as input,and diagnostic variables(such as whether there is a disease)are used as *** novel coronavirus has spread across the world,infecting millions of ***-stage detection of critical cases of COVID-19 is essential.X-ray scans are used in clinical studies to diagnose COVID-19 and Pneumonia *** extracting the discriminative features through these modalities,deep convolutional neural networks(CNNs)are used.A siamese convolutional neural network model(COVID-3D-SCNN)is proposed in this study for the automated detection of COVID-19 by utilizing X-ray *** extract the useful features,we used three consecutive models working in parallel in the proposed *** acquired 575 COVID-19,1200 non-COVID,and 1400 pneumonia images,which are publicly *** our framework,augmentation is used to enlarge the *** findings suggest that the proposed method outperforms the results of comparative studies in terms of accuracy 96.70%,specificity 95.55%,and sensitivity 96.62%over(COVID-19 ***-COVID19 ***).

Limiting toxic elements from being exposed to the world’s atmosphere has been the biggest challenge among environmental researchers and *** change conferences have been counselling the global economies to take serious steps toward profound decarbonization to keep the universal temperature below 1.5*** this context,the direction of environmental research has changed,and researchers are more focused on tracing how to limit pollution and keep it below the threshold *** this milieu,nuclear energy can make a big difference along with other alternatives to fossil ***,we extend the extant literature by exploring the dynamic effects of atomic energy and ICT on carbon emissions(CO_(2))for top nuclear energy countries using data from 1990 to *** obtain robust findings,we deploy a novel non-parametric econometric approach(i.e.,method of moments quantile regression).The results suggest that nuclear energy is a sustainable alternative to historical fossil fuel as it curbs CO_(2)emissions in the lower,middle,and upper ***,our findings corroborate that ICT penetration through the internet,mobile and telephone plays a vital role in improving environmental ***,we unveil that linear economic growth jeopardizes the environment by unleashing harmful *** findings also support the existence of the Environmental Kuznets Curve(EKC)hypothesis by confirming the negative association between the polynomial economic growth(squared-GDP)and CO_(2)emissions among the designated ***,the Granger causality test reaffirms the causal nexus among selected series that runs from nuclear energy and technological innovation to CO_(2)emissions,indicating that any policy shock in both series leads to environmental ***,therefore,advocate that the designated territories keep enriching their energy baskets with nuclear energy and boost ICT penetration to achieve a 100%decoupling of economic growth from pollution.

Automatic Detection of Nephrops Norvegicus Burrows from Underwater Imagery Using Deep Learning

The Norway lobster,Nephrops norvegicus,is one of the main commercial crustacean fisheries in *** abundance of Nephrops norvegicus stocks is assessed based on identifying and counting the burrows where they live from underwater videos collected by camera systems mounted on *** Spanish Oceanographic Institute(IEO)andMarine Institute Ireland(MIIreland)conducts annual underwater television surveys(UWTV)to estimate the total abundance of Nephrops within the specified area,with a coefficient of variation(CV)or relative standard error of less than 20%.Currently,the identification and counting of the Nephrops burrows are carried out manually by the marine *** is quite a time-consuming *** a solution,we propose an automated system based on deep neural networks that automatically detects and counts the Nephrops burrows in video footage with high *** proposed system introduces a deep-learning-based automated way to identify and classify the Nephrops *** research work uses the current state-of-the-art Faster RCNN models Inceptionv2 and MobileNetv2 for object detection and *** conduct experiments on two data sets,namely,the Smalls Nephrops survey(FU 22)and Cadiz Nephrops survey(FU 30),collected by Marine Institute Ireland and Spanish Oceanographic Institute,*** the results,we observe that the Inception model achieved a higher precision and recall rate than *** best mean Average Precision(mAP)recorded by the Inception model is 81.61%compared to MobileNet,which achieves the best mAP of 75.12%.

Effect of environmental factors on species diversity of the Yenice Hot Spot Forests in Turkey

We quantified the diversity of vascular plant species and described soil properties and topographical and climatic conditions of the Citdere and Kavakli Nature Reserves in the Yenice Forest of Turkey. We used the Shannon-Weiner and Simpson's indices of diversity,Margalef's index of species richness and Pielou's evenness index to quantify the structure of vascular plant assemblages. We measured soil parameters(NO_3^-, NH_4^+,available P, Mg^(++), K^+, Na^+, Ca^(++), organic matter, pH,soil moisture), elevation, slope gradient and aspect and their correlations with plant community parameters. In total, we recorded and identified 207 species and subspecies in the study area. Species cover, richness and diversity indices varied significantly by vegetation type(P < 0.01). Available NO_3^- and Ca++ in the soil were important factors for the area and species representation in the species-environment correlations estimated for the Kavakli area. Available NO_3^-,pH, organic matter, Ca^(++) and K^+ in the soil were important factors for the area and species representation in the species-environment correlations analysed for the Citdere area.

This paper investigates the effect of cutter clearance angle on variation of depth of cut and cutting process with an actuated disc cutting(ADC).ADC is a cyclic cutting method with two main characteristics:(i)a disk-shape cutter is used to attack the rock in an undercutting mechanism;and(ii)the cutter is dynamically actuated as it is moved across the ***,the cutting process of such system is periodic,each recurrence known as actuation *** first ADC model,developed in 2016,represented an idealization of the technology with a flat disc cutter,where no clearance angle was *** evolution of the contact between the disc and the rock was,therefore,computed only on horizontal x-y plane,ignoring the effect of normal component of the force acting on *** article reports on a study that incorporates the cutter inclination angle in derivation of cutter/rock interface *** extends the proposed kinematic and geometry based model to take into account the variable depth of cut in estimating the forces associated with cutting in one actuation *** were conducted using Wobble to test the predictions of the improved model at various operating *** model predictions are matched with the experimental results and effects of various factors are analysed.
