Background Danshen （Radix Salvia miltiorrhizae） has been used as a traditional medicine in Asia for treatment of various microcirculatory disturbance related diseases. Tanshinones are mainly hydrophobic active components, which have been isolated from Danshen and show various biological functions. In this study, we observed the neuroprotective effect of tanshinone I （Tsl） against ischemic damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region （CA1） after transient cerebral ischemia and examined its neuroprotective mechanism. Methods The gerbils were divided into vehicle-treated-sham-group, vehicle-treated-ischemia-group, Tsl-treated-sham- group, and Tsl-treated-ischemia-group. Tsl was administrated intraperitoneally three times （once a day for three days） before ischemia-reperfusion. The neuroprotective affect of Tsl was examined using H＆E staining, neuronal nuclei （NeuN） immunohistochemistry and Fluoro-Jade B staining. To investigate the neuroprotective mechanism of Tsl after ischemia- reperfusion, immunohistochemical （IHC） and Western blotting analyses for Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase （SOD1）, Mn- superoxide dismutase （SOD2）, brain-derived neurotrophic factor （BDNF） and insulin-like growth factor-I （IGF-I） were *** Treatment with Tsl protected pyramidal neurons from ischemia-induced neuronal death in the CA1 after ischemia-reperfusion. In addition, treatment with Tsl maintained the levels of SOD1 and SOD2 as determined by IHC and Western blotting in the CA1 after ischemia- reperfusion compared with the vehicle-ischemia-group. In addition, treatment with Tsl increased the levels of BDNF and IGF-I determined by IHC and Westem blotting in the Tsl-treated-sham-group compared with the vehicle-treated- sham-group, and their levels were maintained in the stratum pyramidale of the ischemic CA1 in the Tsl-treated- ischemia-group. Soft electromechanical sensors have led to a new paradigm of electronic devices for novel motion-based wearable applications in our daily lives. However, the vast amount of random and unidentified signals generated by complex body motions has hindered the precise recognition and practical application of this technology. Recent advancements in artificial-intelligence technology have enabled significant strides in extracting features from massive and intricate data sets, thereby presenting a breakthrough in utilizing wearable sensors for practical applications. Beyond traditional machine-learning techniques for classifying simple gestures, advanced machine-learning algorithms have been developed to handle more complex and nuanced motion-based tasks with restricted training data sets. Machine-learning techniques have improved the ability to perceive, and thus machine-learned wearable soft sensors have enabled accurate and rapid human-gesture recognition, providing real-time feedback to users. This forms a crucial component of future wearable electronics, contributing to a robust human–machine interface. In this review, we provide a comprehensive summary covering materials, structures and machine-learning algorithms for hand-gesture recognition and possible practical applications through machine-learned wearable electromechanical sensors.

Changes in microorganisms and metabolites during long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce

This study was performed to investigate the changes in microbial communities and metabolites during the long-term fermentation of commercially manufactured anchovy sauce. Samples of commercial anchovy sauce were collected from large-scale fermentation tanks with fermentation periods of up to 7.87 years. The complex bacterial community was simplified to two genera， Tetragenococcus and Halanaerobium， after approximately 0.55 years of fermentation. Although genera， such as Saccharomyces， Cladosporium， Candida， and Aspergillus， were relatively dominant， no clear pattern was identified in fungal community analysis. The longitudinal metabolite profile demonstrated that approximately half (55.8%) of the metabolites present in anchovy sauce were produced within a year of fermentation due to rapid fermentation. Despite the static microbial community， the contents of several metabolites including amino acids and biogenic amines changed continuously during the long-term fermentation of anchovy sauce. This study provides novel insights into the changes in microbiota and metabolites in fish sauce produced without any starter inoculation.

Detrital zircon geochronology and Hf isotope analysis can be used for inferring provenance characteristics,and to evaluate the tectonic evolution of sedimentary basins and their link with regional *** Paleozoic sequences of the Okcheon Belt consist of the Lower Paleozoic Joseon and the Upper Paleozoic Pyeongan supergroups with Middle Paleozoic hiatus locally on top of the Neoproterozoic bimodal volcanic rocks,reflecting an intracontinental rift setting between the two basements(*** and Yeongnam massifs)at southern part of the Korean *** detrital zircon U-Pb ages and Lu-Hf isotope results show that all these Paleozoic strata commonly have Paleoproterozoic and Paleozoic zircon ages with rare Meso-to Neoproterozoic *** individual zircon populations display following features,allowing estimation of their sedimentary provenances:(i)The Paleoproterozoic zircons(ca.1.85 Ga and 2.50 Ga)with similar ranges ofεHf(t)values are most common in the basement rocks of the Korean Peninsula,and were sourced from both the Gyeonggi and Yeongnam massifs.(ii)The Meso-to Neoproterozoic zircons,preserved only in the Middle to Late Cambrian clastic sedimentary rocks within the carbonate sequences probably reflect proximal provenance.(iii)The youngest Paleozoic zircons of each formation,almost coincident with their deposition ages,suggest presence of syndepositional magmatism,indicating proximal magmatic sources during their deposition.(iv)The Cambrian-Ordovician zircons,from the Lower Paleozoic sequences,but rare in the successive Upper Paleozoic sequences,suggest a provenance change after the hiatus between the two sedimentary successions.(v)The Permian zircons showing differentεHf(t)values indicate that detrital sources were varied at that *** integrated results in our study suggest provenance variability linked to diverse tectonic environments,reflecting prolonged subduction-related crustal evolution of the proto-Korean Peninsula during the Paleozo

Prospect of developing Nd-Fe-B-type magnet with high electrical resistivity

Nd-Fe-B-type magnet is exclusively used as a rotor magnet in the traction motor of hybrid electric vehicle(HEV)and electric vehicle(EV),but its overly high operating temperature is a lingering problem attached to the *** major cause of the high operating temperature is eddy current,which is readily generated in the highly conductive metallic magnet under alternating magnetic field from stator *** this article,temperature rise in the Nd-Fe-B-type magnet with varying electrical resistivity under alternating magnetic field is discussed with the intention of highlighting the importance of enhancing the electrical resistivity for reducing the operating temperature of the Nd-Fe-B-type rotor *** rise in the Nd-Fe-B-type magnet(dielectric salt-added die-upset magnet)with high electrical resistivity is noticeably lower compared to the magnet(commercial sintered rotor magnet)with lower electrical resistivity,substantiating the theory that enhancing the electrical resistivity in the rotor magnet is fairly effective for suppressing the over-rise of its operating temperature during ***-upset process is revealed to be particularly pertinent for the fabrication of highly dense salt-added magnet with high electrical resistivity.

Influence of Zn and Mg Alloying on the Corrosion Resistance Properties of Al Coating Applied by Arc Thermal Spray Process in Simulated Weather Solution

In this study,Al–Zn and Al–Mg coatings were deposited on steel substrates by an arc thermal spray process.X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy were used to characterize the deposited coatings and corrosion *** circuit potential（OCP）,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy,and potentiodynamic studies were used to assess the corrosion characteristics of these coatings after exposure according to the Society of Automotive Engineers（SAE）J2334 solution of varying *** solution simulates an industrial environment and contains chloride and carbonate ions that induce corrosion of the deposited ***,the Al–Mg alloy coating maintained an OCP of approximately-0.911 V versus Ag/Ag Cl in the SAE J2334 solution even after 792 h of *** indicates that it protects the steel sacrificially,whereas the Al–Zn coating provides only barrier-type protection through the deposition of corrosion *** Al–Mg coating acts as a self-healing coating and provides protection by forming Mg_6Al_2（OH）_（16）CO_3（Al–Mg layered double hydroxides）.Mg_6Al_2（OH）_（16）CO_3has interlocking characteristics with a morphology of plate-like nanostructures and an ion-exchange ability that can improve the corrosion resistance properties of the *** presence of Zn in the corrosion products of the Al–Zn coating allows dissolution,but,at the same time,Zn_5（OH）_6（CO_3）_2and Zn_6Al_2（OH）_（16）CO_3are formed and act to reduce the corrosion rate.
