Antioxidant and anti-melanogenic activities of ultrasonic extract from Stichopus japonicus

Objective:To investigate the antioxidant and anti-melanogenesis activities of an ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber,Stichopus japonicus,collected from Jeju ***:Antioxidant activity experiments were assessed by an electron spin resonance system and a cellular model of immortalized human keratinocytes(HaCaT)to determine its radical scavenging activity and protective effects against 2,2’-azobis(2-amidinopropane)dihydrochloride(AAPH)-induced oxidative *** activity of the ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber was also examined using the melanoma cell model B16F10 and mushroom *** the induction byα-melanocytestimulating hormone,the effects of the ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber on intracellular tyrosinase activity,melanin content and the melanogenic protein expression of microphthalmia-associated transcription factor,tyrosinase,and tyrosinase-related proteins(TRP-1,and TRP-2)were ***:The ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber significantly scavenged 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and alkyl radicals[IC50:(0.924±0.035)and(0.327±0.006)mg/mL,respectively],as well as showed a protective effect against oxidative stress and attenuated generation of intracellular reactive oxygen species on AAPHinduced HaCaT cells,with no cytotoxicity(12.5-400μg/mL).The ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber also exhibited a tyrosinase inhibitory effect[IC50:(2.750±0.006)mg/mL].Onα-melanocytestimulating hormone-stimulated B16F10 melanoma cells,the ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber(25-200μg/mL)significantly inhibited not only melanin synthesis and tyrosinase activity,but also protein expressions of microphthalmia-associated transcriptional factor,tyrosinase,TRP-1,and ***:The ultrasonic extract of red sea cucumber shows antioxidant and anti-melanogenic potential and may be a natural candidate for anti-aging as well as a whitening agent in the cosmeceuticals industry.

Novel N-doped multichannel carbon nanofiber architecture with porous CoS nanoprisms for high-performance potassium-ion batteries

Potassium-ion batteries(PIBs)have gained significant attention as an alternative to lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)due to the abundance of potassium(K)and low ***,the difficulty in finding appropriate electrode materials that can efficiently store the larger K ions has hindered their practical ***,we report a novel anode material,N-doped multichannel carbon nanofibers embedded with porous CoS nanoprisms(CSP@NMCNF),for high-performance *** CSP@NMCNF was synthesized using a two-step strategy comprising of the electrospinning of Co acetate hydroxide nanoprism/binary polymer blend and a subsequent heat *** porous CoS nanoprisms with an anisotropic morphology were well aligned along the length axis of the N-doped multichannel carbon nanofibers,thus ensuring their structural stability during the repeated charge-discharge *** addition,numerous pores facilitated the transport of electrons and ***,the CSP@NMCNF anode exhibited excellent electrochemical performance,delivering a high specific capacity of 368 mAh·g^(-1)at 0.5 A·g^(-1)after 200 cycles and excellent rate capability(232 mAh·g^(-1)at 2.0 A·g^(-1)).

Synergistically coupling of Ni–Fe LDH arrays with hollow Co–Mo sulfide nanotriangles for highly efficient overall water splitting

Developing bifunctional catalysts that can catalyze both oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)is pivotal to commercializing large-scale water ***,a novel hollow nanotriangle composed of NiFe LDH-CoMoS_(x) heterojunction(H-CMSx@NiFe LDH)is proposed as a highly efficient bifunctional electrocatalyst for both OER and *** fabricate a heterojunction system,ultra-thin nickel–iron layered double hydroxide(NiFe LDH)nanosheets are uniformly electrodeposited onto a metal–organic framework-derived hollow CoMoS_(x) *** strong coupling of CoMoS_(x) and NiFe LDH catalysts forms the intimate heterojunction interfaces to facilitate interfacial charge transfer,which is favorable to enhance the bifunctional catalytic ***,the large void of CoMoS_(x) nanotriangles and interconnected ultra-thin NiFe LDH nanosheets result in good electrolyte penetration and gas ***,the as-prepared H-CMSx@NiFe LDH on nickel foam(NF)exhibits an impressive catalytic activity and durability for OER and HER activities,delivering a current density of 100 mA·cm^(−2) at the small overpotentials of 214 and 299 mV in OER and HER,***,H-CMSx@NiFe LDH/NF proves to be an effective electrode for an alkaline electrolyzer,as a voltage of only 1.99 V is enough to achieve a current density voltage of only 1.99 V is enough to achieve a current density of 400 mA·cm^(−2) with no degradation in performance over 50 h.

Adverse effects of early-life stress:focus on the rodent neuroendocrine system

Early-life stress is associated with a high prevalence of mental illnesses such as post-traumatic stress disorders,attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder,schizophrenia,and anxiety or depressive behavior,which constitute major public health *** the early stages of brain development after birth,events such as synaptogenesis,neuron maturation,and glial differentiation occur in a highly orchestrated manner,and external stress can cause adverse long-term effects throughout *** body utilizes multifaceted mechanisms,including neuroendocrine and neurotransmitter signaling pathways,to appropriately process external *** individuals first exposed to early-life stress deploy neurogenesis as a stress-defense mechanism;however,in adulthood,early-life stress induces apoptosis of mature neurons,activation of immune responses,and reduction of neurotrophic factors,leading to anxiety,depression,and cognitive and memory *** process involves the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal axis and neurotransmitters secreted by the central nervous system,including norepinephrine,dopamine,and *** rodent early-life stress model is generally used to experimentally assess the effects of stress during *** paper reviews the use of the early-life stress model and stress response mechanisms of the body and discusses the experimental results regarding how early-life stress mediates stress-related pathways at a high vulnerability of psychiatric disorder in adulthood.

Many types of plastic products,including polystyrene,have long been used in commercial and industrial *** and nanoplastics,plastic particles derived from these plastic products,are emerging as environmental pollutants that can pose health risks to a wide variety of living organisms,including ***,it is not well understood how microplastics and nanoplastics affect cellular functions and induce stress *** can be exposed to polystyrene-microplastics and polystyrene-nanoplastics through ingestion,inhalation,or skin *** ingested plastics are excreted from the body,but inhaled plastics may accumulate in the lungs and can even reach the brain via the nose-to-brain ***-sized polystyrene-nanoplastics can enter cells by endocytosis,accumulate in the cytoplasm,and cause various cellular stresses,such as inflammation with increased pro-inflammatory cytokine production,oxidative stress with generation of reactive oxygen species,and mitochondrial *** induce autophagy activation and autophagosome formation,but autophagic flux may be impaired due to lysosomal *** permanently exposed to polystyrene-nanoplastics,they can be removed from cells by exocytosis and subsequently restore cellular ***,neurons are very susceptible to this type of stress,thus even acute exposure can lead to neurodegeneration without *** review focuses specifically on recent advances in research on polystyrene-nanoplastic-induced cytotoxicity and ***,in this review,based on mechanistic studies of polystyrene-nanoplastics at the cellular level other than neurons,future directions for overcoming the negative effects of polystyrene-nanoplastics on neurons were suggested.

Reinforced concrete(RC)flat slabs,a popular choice in construction due to their flexibility,are susceptible to sudden and brittle punching shear *** design methods often exhibit significant bias and *** estimation of punching shear strength in RC flat slabs is crucial for effective concrete structure design and *** study introduces a novel computation method,the jellyfish-least square support vector machine(JS-LSSVR)hybrid model,to predict punching shear *** combining machine learning(LSSVR)with jellyfish swarm(JS)intelligence,this hybrid model ensures precise and reliable *** model’s development utilizes a real-world experimental data *** with seven established optimizers,including artificial bee colony(ABC),differential evolution(DE),genetic algorithm(GA),and others,as well as existing machine learning(ML)-based models and design codes,validates the superiority of the JS-LSSVR hybrid *** innovative approach significantly enhances prediction accuracy,providing valuable support for civil engineers in estimating RC flat slab punching shear strength.
