Medulloblastoma（MBL）,the most common malignant pediatric brain tumor,is incurable in about one-third of patients and can lead to long-term disabilities despite current multimodal *** purpose of this study was to demonstrate in vitro biological effects of neurotrophins-3（NT-3） on MBL cells and to evaluate the growth-inhibitory effect of neurotrophin-3（NT-3）-secreting stem cells on tumor *** confirmed by western blotting that D283-MED cells express tyrosine kinase C,a specific receptor for *** the biological effects of NT-3 on MBL cells,we evaluated autophagy,apoptosis,senescence,and differentiation of tumor cells with *** NT-3 induced a concentrationdependent increase in apoptosis in the tumor cell line（P ＜ 0.001）.The high concentrations of NT-3 increased the expression of class III β-tubulin（P ＜ 0.001） and decreased the expression of Nestin（P ＜ 0.05）.NT-3-secreting stem cells were produced by nucleofecting ***-NT3 into human adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells（hAT-MSCs） and were confirmed by fluorescence microscopy and ***-layered co-culture experiments with the NT-3-secreting hAT-MSCs and D283-MED MBL cells were performed,and NT-3-induced cell death was studied by 3-（4,5-dimethylathiazol-2-yl）-2,5-dephenyltetrazolium bromide（MTT） ***,the high concentrations of NT-3-secreting hAT-MSCs significantly（P ＜ 0.05） increased the death of D283-MED cells in *** present study demonstrated that both apoptotic cell death and neuronal differentiation of tumor cells were the mechanisms of growth-inhibitory effect of NT-3-secreting hAT-MSCs on MBL cell line.

Comparison of Protein Profiles in Sputum between COPD and Acute Exacerbation of COPD

Background and objective: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is characterized by progressive airflow limitation that is associated with an abnormal inflammatory response of the lung to noxious particles or gases. Cigarette smoking is the major risk factor for the development of COPD. This study evaluated the levels of cyclophilin B in sputa from patients with COPD and COPD with acute exacerbation (AECOPD). Materials and Methods: Two-dimensional electrophoresis was used for differential display proteomics. Western blotting was used to identify and quantify cyclophilin B in sputum from subjects with AECOPD and COPD. Results: Forty-nine protein spots differed in relative intensity between the AECOPD (n = 6) and COPD (n = 6) subjects. Twenty proteins showed increased expression in the sputum of AECOPD subjects, and 29 proteins were present at lower levels in AECOPD sputum compared with COPD sputum. One of these proteins was associated with cyclophilin B. Cyclophilin B concentrations were lower in sputum from subjects with COPD (n = 4) versus AECOPD (n = 4). Conclusion: The sputum proteomic analysis suggests that changes in various proteins are associated with the development of AECOPD.

＜正＞In this paper, the permanent magnet synchronous generator of 1.5MW output power which is driven directly without gear system is designed by conventional magnetic equivalent circuit method and analyzed by finite element method for verification of design. We analyzed the characteristics of generator like no load, rated load, short circuit condition and demagnetization of permanent magnet. The last, the analysis results of two kinds of rotor types are compared with each other. Especially the THD （total harmonic distortion） of output voltage is examined for the comparison.

Objectives To evaluate the age-related one-year major adverse cardiocerebrovascular events （MACCE） after percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI） in acute myocardial infarction （AMI）. We analyzed the association between age and one-year MACCE after AMI. Methods A total of 13,104 AMI patients from Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry-National Institue of Health （KAMIR-NIH） between November 2011 and December 2015 were classified into four groups according to age （Group I, 〈 60 years, n = 4199; Group II, 60-70 years, n = 2577; Group III; 70-80 years, n = 2774; Group IV, ≥ 80 years, n = 1018）. Patients were analyzed for one-year composite of MACCE （cardiac death, myocardial infarction, target vessel revascularization, cerebrovascular events） after AMI. Results The one-year MACCE in AMI were 3.5% （Group I）, 6.3% （Group II）, 9.6% （Group III） and 17.6% （Group IV）. After adjustment for confounding para- meters, the analysis results showed that patients with AMI had incremental risk of one-year MACCE [Group II, adjusted hazard ratios （aHR） = 1.224, 95% CI： 0.965-1.525, P = 0.096; Group III, aHR = 1.316, 95% CI： 1.037-1.671, P= 0.024; Group IV, aHR = 1.975, 95% CI： 1.500-62.601, P〈 0.001） compared to Group I. Especially, cardiac death in the composite of primary end point played a major role in this effect （Group II, aHR = 1.335, 95% CI： 0.941-1.895, P= 0.106; Group III, aHR = 1.575, 95% CI： 1.122-2.210, P= 0.009; Group IV, aHR = 2.803, 95% CI： 1.937-4.054, P 〈 0.001）. Conclusions Despite advanced techniques and medications for PCI in AMI, age still exerts a powerful influence in clinical outcomes. Careful approaches, even in the modem era of developed cardiology are needed for aged-population in AMI intervention.

Effects of dietary intake and genetic factors on hypermethyiation of the hMLH1 gene promoter in gastric cancer

AIM: Hypermethylation of the promoter of the hMLH1gene, which plays an important role in mismatch repair during DNA replication, occurs in more than 30% of human gastric cancer tissues. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of environmental factors, genetic polymorphisms of major metabolic enzymes, and microsatellite instability on hypermethylation of the promoter of the hMLH1 gene in gastric ***: Data were obtained from a hospital-based,case-control study of gastric cancer. One hundred and ten gastric cancer patients and 220 age- and sex-matched control patients completed a structured questionnaire regarding their exposure to environmental risk *** of the hMLH1 gene promoter,polymorphisms of the GSTM1, GSTT1, CYP1A1, CYP2E1,ALDH2 and L-myc genes, microsatellite instability and mutations of p53 and ki-ras genes were ***: Both smoking and alcohol consumption were associated with a higher risk of gastric cancer with hypermethylation of the hMLH1 gene promoter. High intake of vegetables and low intake of potato were associated with increased likelihood of gastric cancer with hypermethylation of the hMLH1 gene promoter. Background Danshen （Radix Salvia miltiorrhizae） has been used as a traditional medicine in Asia for treatment of various microcirculatory disturbance related diseases. Tanshinones are mainly hydrophobic active components, which have been isolated from Danshen and show various biological functions. In this study, we observed the neuroprotective effect of tanshinone I （Tsl） against ischemic damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region （CA1） after transient cerebral ischemia and examined its neuroprotective mechanism. Methods The gerbils were divided into vehicle-treated-sham-group, vehicle-treated-ischemia-group, Tsl-treated-sham- group, and Tsl-treated-ischemia-group. Tsl was administrated intraperitoneally three times （once a day for three days） before ischemia-reperfusion. The neuroprotective affect of Tsl was examined using H＆E staining, neuronal nuclei （NeuN） immunohistochemistry and Fluoro-Jade B staining. To investigate the neuroprotective mechanism of Tsl after ischemia- reperfusion, immunohistochemical （IHC） and Western blotting analyses for Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase （SOD1）, Mn- superoxide dismutase （SOD2）, brain-derived neurotrophic factor （BDNF） and insulin-like growth factor-I （IGF-I） were *** Treatment with Tsl protected pyramidal neurons from ischemia-induced neuronal death in the CA1 after ischemia-reperfusion. In addition, treatment with Tsl maintained the levels of SOD1 and SOD2 as determined by IHC and Western blotting in the CA1 after ischemia- reperfusion compared with the vehicle-ischemia-group. In addition, treatment with Tsl increased the levels of BDNF and IGF-I determined by IHC and Westem blotting in the Tsl-treated-sham-group compared with the vehicle-treated- sham-group, and their levels were maintained in the stratum pyramidale of the ischemic CA1 in the Tsl-treated- ischemia-group. Background The clinical significance of complete revascularization for ST segment elevation myocardial infarction （STEMI） pa- tients during admission is still debatable. Methods A total of 1406 STEMI patients from the Korean Myocardial Infarction Registry with multivessel diseases without cardiogenic shock who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention （PPCI） were analyzed. We used propensity score matching （PSM） to control differences of baseline characteristics between culprit only intervention （CP） and multivessel percutaneous coronary interventions （MP）, and between double vessel disease （DVD） and triple vessel disease （TVD）. The major adverse cardiac event （MACE） was analyzed for one year after discharge. Results TVD patients showed higher incidence of MACE （14.2% vs. 8.6%, P = 0.01）, any cause of revascularization （10.6% vs. 5.9%, P - 0.01）, and repeated PCI （9.5% vs. 5.7%, P = 0.02）, as compared to DVD patients during one year after discharge. MP reduced MACE effectively （7.3% vs. 13.8%, P = 0.03）, as compared to CP for one year, but all cause of death （1.6% vs. 3.2%, P= 0.38）, Ml （0.4% vs. 0.8%, P = 1.00）, and any cause ofrevascularization （5.3% vs. 9.7%, P = 0.09） were comparable in the two treatment groups. Conclusions STEMI patients with TVD showed higher rate of MACE, as compared to DVD MP performed during PPCI or ad hoc during admission for STEMI patients without cardiogenic shock showed lower rate of MACE in this large scaled database. Therefore, MP could be considered as an effective treatment option for STEMI patients without cardiogenic shock.

X-ray Spectra Calculations for Inspection of Semiconductors with Different Target/Filter Combinations Using MCNPX

X-rays are commonly used for inspecting semiconductors. However, excessive radiation dose could damage semiconductors. Therefore, unnecessary exposure needs to be reduced. The ray quality, which is influenced by the tube voltage and filter, determines the exposure. We designed an X-ray tube for inspecting semiconductors with different target/filter combinations and calculated X-ray spectra using the MCNPX （Monte Carlo n-particle extended） code. The target material was W, and the filters were made of Mo, W, and Zr. The W/W combination showed the lowest flux. The MCNPX code can reduce the development time and cost of the target/filter combination for inspecting semiconductors.
