Characteristics of gastric cancer recurrence five or more years after curative gastrectomy

Objective： To investigate the characteristics of recurrences that occurred 5 or more years after curative resection for gastric ***： We analyzed recurrences among 1,299 patients with gastric cancer who underwent curative operations at the Department of Surgery, Inje University Seoul Paik Hospital between September 1998 and December 2002. Recurrences were classified as within 2 years （early）, 2-5 years （intermediate）, and more than 5 years （late） after gastrectomy. The clinicopathologic findings of the patients with late recurrence were compared with those of patients in the other two recurrence groups, with special reference to the patterns of recurrence. Both univariate and multivariate analyses were performed, incorporating factors such as operation type, T-stage, N-stage, stage, lymphatic invasion, neural invasion, histology, tumor size, and recurrence ***： At the time of last follow-up, recurrence occurred in 266 （20.5%） patients. Recurrence times were classified as 〈2 years （182 patients）, 2-5 years （61 patients）, or 〉5 years （23 patients）. The late recurrence rate was 8.6%. The occurrence of recurrence 〉5 years after gastrectomy was significantly correlated with age, operation type, T-stage, N-stage, stage, lymphatic invasion, neural invasion, histology, tumor size, location and recurrence site （P〈0.05）. The main recurrence patterns in the 23 patients with late recurrence were locoregional metastasis （10 patients, 43.5%）, peritoneal seeding （8 patients, 34.8%）, hematogenous metastasis （2 patients, 8.7%）, and multiple metastasis （3 patients, 13.0%）. A multivariate analysis showed that larger tumor size and younger age were independent prognostic factors for late recurrence. Additionally, locoregional and peritoneal recurrences were significantly more common than hematogenous recurrences. Conclusions： Although late recurrence was uncommon, younger age and larger tumor size were associated with high risk. Follow-up surveillance is recommended

The development of organs-on-a-chip has resulted in advances in the reconstruction of 3D cellular ***,there remain limitations regarding applicability and ***,we present an injection-molded plastic array 3D universal culture platform(U-IMPACT)for various biological applications in a single platform,such as cocultures of various cell types,and spheroids(e.g.,tumor spheroids,neurospheres)and tissues(e.g.,microvessels).The U-IMPACT consists of three channels and a spheroid zone with a 96-well plate form ***,organoids or spheroids(~500μm)can be located in designated areas,while cell suspensions or cellladen hydrogels can be selectively placed in three *** stable multichannel patterning,we developed a new patterning method based on capillary action,utilizing capillary channels and the native contact angle of the materials without any *** derived the optimal material hydrophilicity(contact angle of the body,45–90°;substrate,<30°)for robust patterning through experiments and theoretical *** demonstrated that the U-IMPACT can implement 3D tumor microenvironments for angiogenesis,vascularization,and tumor cell ***,we cultured neurospheres from induced neural stem *** U-IMPACT can serve as a multifunctional organ-on-achip platform for high-content and high-throughput screening.

Dear Editor,Plant tissue culture involves callus formation and de novo shoot ***,explants from differentiated tissues are used to generate a pluripotent cell mass,called callus,on auxin-rich callus-inducing medium(CIM),followed by shoot regeneration on cytokinin-rich shoot-inducing medium(SiM).Callus results from division of pericycle-like cells(Atta et al.,2009;Sugimoto et al.,2010);its cellular identity resembles that of lateral root primordia(Atta et al.,2009;Sugimoto et al.,2010).Callus acquires cellular pluripotency by forming root stem cell niches on CIM(Sugimoto et al.,2010)。

Development of a Powder Extruder System for Dual-pore Tissue-engineering Scaffold Fabrication

In this study,we developed a powder extruder system that can extrude and deposit powder mixtures to overcome the reported limitations of conventional dualpore scaffold manufacturing *** evaluate the extrusion and deposition capability of the powder extruder system,3D tissue-engineering scaffolds with dual-pore characteristics were fabricated with a PCL/PEO/NaCl(polycaprolactone/polyethylene oxide/sodium chloride)powder *** addition,to evaluate the fabricated scaffolds,their compressive modulus,morphology,and in-vitro cell activity were ***,it was confirmed that the proposed powder extruder system can fabricate dual-pore scaffolds with well-interconnected pores as well as arbitrary 3D shapes shown by the fabrication of a 3D femur-shape scaffold similar to the femur *** results of the cell proliferation and Cell Counting Kit-8(CCK-8)assays,DNA content analysis and viability assays confirm that the dual-pore scaffold fabricated by the powder extruder system improves cell attachment,proliferation,and viability.

Forecasting Winning Bid Prices in an Online Auction Market - Data Mining Approaches

To solve information asymmetry problem on online auction, this study suggests and validates a forecasting model of winning bid prices. Especially, it explores the usability of data mining approaches, such as neural network and Bayesian network in building a forecasting model. This research empirically shows that, in forecasting winning bid prices on online auction, data mining techniques have shown better performance than traditional statistical analysis, such as logistic regression and multivariate regression.

Biliary reflux detection in anomalous union of the pancreaticobiliary duct patients

AIM:To demonstrate the imaging findings of biliopancreatic and pancreatico-biliary reflux in patients with anomalous union of the pancreatico-biliary duct (AUPBD) on gadoxetic acid-enhanced functional magnetic resonance cholangiography (fMRC).METHODS:This study included six consecutive patients (two men and four women;mean age 47.5 years) with *** subjects underwent endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP);one subject also underwent bile sampling of the common bile duct (CBD) to measure the amylase level because his gadoxetic acidenhanced fMRC images showed evidence of pancreatico-biliary reflux of pancreatic *** the five patients with choledochal cysts,four underwent pyloruspreserving ***:The five cases of choledochal cysts were classified as Todani classification Ⅰ.In three of the six patients with AUPBD,injected contrast media reached the distal CBD and pancreatic duct on delay images,suggesting biliopancreatic *** two of these six patients,a band-like filling defect was noted in the CBD on pre-fatty meal images,which decreased in size on delayed post-fatty meal images,suggesting pancreatico-biliary reflux of pancreatic secretions,and the bile sampled from the CBD in one patient had an amylase level of 113 000 IU/*** one of the six patients with AUPBD,contrast media did not reach the distal CBD due to multiple CBD ***:Gadoxetic acid-enhanced fMRC successfully demonstrated biliopancreatic reflux of bile and pancreatico-biliary reflux of pancreatic secretions in patients with AUPBD with and without choledochal cysts.

薄板坯连铸漏钢率高于传统连铸,因此更需仔细控制连铸工艺参数,但是优化与漏钢有关的许多参数不容易,因此需选择最关键参数控制漏钢.在粘结漏钢时,在相对低的热流时倾向性增加,因此把结晶器宽面的热流作为重要参数来考虑和控制,选择连铸保护渣、拉速、铸坯宽度、结晶器铜板锥度不合适也容易产生漏钢.因此用在线锥度控制来优化锥度设定,采用控制传热热流的办法可以降低漏钢率.

Relationship between compressive and tensile strengths of roller-compacted concrete

The abstract roller-compacted concrete （RCC） is a zero slump concrete comprising the same materials as that of conventional concrete with different proportions. The RCC must be compacted to reach its final form. The effects of hydration and aggregate interlock on its strength are considerable. For similar binder contents, the compressive strength of the RCC is generally higher than that of the conventional concrete; however, the tensile strength of RCC may not be superior to that of the conventional concrete. Adequate tensile strength is necessary to resist fatigue cracking, particularly in pavement applications. However, the compressive strength is frequently used in assessing the quality control and quality assurance of pavements. Therefore, the relationship between the compressive and tensile strengths of the RCC should be analyzed. Unfortunately, only a few studies have been conducted on this relationship. The objective of this study is to identify the difference between the indirect tensile strengths of the RCC and those of the conventional concrete as well as develop relationship equations to evaluate the compressive and tensile strengths. In this study, regression equations are developed to estimate the indirect tensile strengths, which are known as flexural and splitting tensile strengths, using the compressive strength of the RCC. The results show that the flexural strength of the RCC is within the predicted values obtained from the conventional concrete equations for a given compressive strength. In contrast, the splitting tensile strength of the RCC is relatively lower than that of the conventional concrete for the given compressive strength.
