This work shows that a soft,thin film comprising randomly aligned carbon nanotubes(CNTs)can reduce surface wear more effectively than a homogeneous thin film because of enhanced elastic recoverability and contact stress relief originating from its mesh *** investigate the wear characteristics of the mesh structure compared to those of the homogeneous thin film,multi-walled CNTs(MWCNTs)and diamond-like carbon(DLC)thin films were prepared to conduct nanoscale tribological experiments using the atomic force microscopy(AFM).The MWCNT thin film showed unmeasurably low wear compared with the DLC thin film under a certain range of normal *** demonstrate the wear reduction mechanism of the MWCNT thin film,its indentation and frictional behaviors were *** indentation behavior of the MWCNT thin film revealed repetitive elastic deformation with a wide strain range and a significantly lower elastic modulus than that of the DLC thin *** permanent deformation of the MWCNT thin film was observed through frictional experiments under relatively high normal load *** results are expected to provide insights into the design of highly wear-resistant surfaces using nanostructures.

Endoscopic resection(ER) of undifferentiated-type early gastric cancer(UD-EGC) has a lower curative resection(CR) rate than does ER of differentiated-type EGC(D-EGC). However, a low CR rate does not mean that it is unreasonable to schedule ER of UD-EGC. If ER is in fact curative, the long-term outcomes including survival rate are excellent. Quality of life is good because maximal stomach preservation is possible. However, UD-EGC and D-EGC differ histologically. Thus, when ER is contemplated to treat UD-EGC, a careful approach employing strict criteria is essential because the biology of UD-EGC and D-EGC differ.

Multicomponent metal sulfide materials with a yolk–shell structure and a single phase were studied for the first time as anode materials for sodium-ion batteries. Yolk–shell-structured Fe–Ni–O powders with a molar ratio of iron and nickel components of 1/1 were prepared via one-pot spray pyrolysis. The prepared Fe–Ni–O powders were transformed into yolk–shell-structured (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 solid-solution powders via a sulfidation process. The initial discharge and charge capacities of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders at a current density of 1 A·g−1 were 601 and 504 mA·h·g−1, respectively. The discharge capacities of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders for the 2nd and 100th cycle were 530 and 527 mA·h·g−1, respectively, and their corresponding capacity retention measured from the 2nd cycle was 99%. The (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders had high initial discharge and charge capacities at a low current density of 0.1 A·g−1, and the reversible discharge capacity decreased slightly from 568 to 465 mA·h·g−1 as the current density increased from 0.1 to 5.0 A·g−1. The synergetic effect of the novel yolk–shell structure and the multicomponent sulfide composition of the (Fe0.5Ni0.5)9S8 powders resulted in excellent sodium-ion storage performance.

Heatwaves(HWs)present a major hazard to our society and more extreme heatwaves are expected with future climatic ***,it is important to improve our understanding of the underlying processes that drive HWs,in order to boost our socioeconomic-ecological *** this study,we quantified the influences of key driving factors(large-scale atmospheric circulation,soil moisture,and sea surface temperature)and their synergies on recent heatwaves in East *** conducted a factor separation analysis for three recent HW events by constraining the key factors in the regional Weather Research and Forecasting model with their climatologies or pseudo-observations in different *** study showed distinct spatial variations in the HW-controlling factors in East *** synergistic interaction of large-scale circulation and soil moisture was the most important factors in the 2013 Chinese *** the 2018 HWs in Korea and Japan,the same stagnant large-scale atmospheric circulation played a dominant role in driving the HW *** land-atmosphere coupling via soil moisture,its interaction with circulation,and SST exhibited stronger influences during the Korean HW than the Japanese *** analysis also revealed temporal variations in the factors driving Korean and Chinese HWs due to typhoon passage and other multiple processes over heterogeneous surfaces(i.e.,topographically induced Foehn winds,large-scale warm advection from the warm ocean,spatial differences in soil moisture).Our findings suggest that future heatwave-related studies should consider interactive contributions of key factors,their interplay with surface heterogeneities of complex terrain.

The design of notch and barrier was optimized in order to improve the characteristics of constant torque while minimizing the cogging torque that occurs as a result of teeth and slot structure. The barrier was installed in order to minimize the cogging torque and torque ripple by finite element method (FEM) with a reduced barrier width toward the center of magnetic pole. The position and width of notch, which can offset cogging torque, can be calculated with energy distribution of air-gap using Fourier series. The optimized model demonstrates a 60% decrease in the cogging torque, a 75.3% decrease in the torque ripple and a 3% increase in the operating torque when compared with the basic model.

AIM： To compare the recovery of thrombocytopenia and splenomegaly during long-term follow-up after liver transplantation in patients receiving a living donor transplant or a cadaveric donor transplant. METHODS： This was a retrospective cohort study of 216 consecutive liver transplant patients who survived for 〉 6 mo after transplantation; 169 received a liver transplant from a living donor and 47 from a cadaveric donor. The platelet counts or spleen volumes were examined before transplant, i, 6, and 12 mo after transplant, and then annually until 5 years after transplant. RESULTS： The mean follow-up period was 49 mo （range, 21-66）. Platelet counts increased continuously for 5 years after orthotopic liver transplant. The restoration of platelet counts after transplant was significantly slower in patients with severe pretransplant thrombocytopenia （〈 50000/μL） until 4 years after transplant （P = 0.005）. Donor type did not significantlyaffect the recovery of platelet count and spleen volume in either patient group. In multivariate analysis, pretransplant severe thrombocytopenia （〈 50000/μL） was an independent factor associated with sustained thrombocytopenia （P 〈 0.001, odds ratio 6.314; confidence interval, 2.828-14.095）. Thrombocytopenia reappeared after transplant in seven patients with portal flow disturbance near the anastomosis site. CONCLUSION： Our study suggests that severe thrombocytopenia before transplant is closely associated with delayed recovery of platelet count after transplant and donor type did not affect the recovery of thrombocytopenia. The reappearance of thrombocytopenia after transplant should be considered a possible indicator of flow disturbance in the portal vein.

The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between insulin resistance, obesity and serum prostate-specific antigen （PSA） levels in healthy men with serum PSA level below 4 ng mL-1. The men included in the study cohort were 11 827 healthy male employees of the Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Co., LTD who had undergone medical checkups including fasting glucose, fasting insulin and serum PSA between January 2003 and December 2008. Insulin resistance was calculated by homeostasis model assessment （HOMA [fasting glucose × fasting insulin]/22.5） and quantitative insulin sensitivity check index （QUICK/; 1/[log （fasting insulin）＋ log （fasting glucose）]）. Age-adjusted body mass index （BMI） was significantly increased according to increasing quartile of insulin resistance as determined by HOMA and QUICKI, respectively, in analysis of variance （ANOVA） test and Duncan＇s multiple comparison test （P 〈 0.001）, but age-adjusted serum PSA concentration was significantly decreased according to increasing quartile of insulin resistance as determined by HOMA and QUICK/（P 〈 0.001）. Age, BMI, insulin resistance by HOMA or QUICK/were significantly independent variables to serum PSA level in a multivariate linear regression analysis （P 〈 0.001）. Insulin resistance was a significant independent variable to serum PSA level along with BMI. Insulin resistance and BMI were negatively correlated with serum PSA level in healthy men. Insulin resistance was positively correlated with BMI.
