Assessing fire severity in Turkey's forest ecosystems using spectral indices from satellite images

Fire severity classifications determine fire damage and regeneration potential in post-fire areas for effective implementation of restoration *** fire damage varies according to vegetation and fire characteristics,regional assessment of fire severity is *** objectives of this study were:(1)to test the performance of different satellite imagery and spectral indices,and two field—measured severity indices,CBI(Composite Burn Index)and geoCBI(geometrically structured Composite Burn Index)to assess fire severity;(2)to calculate classification thresholds for spectral indices that performed best in the study areas;and(3)to generate fire severity maps that could be used to determine the ecological impact of forest *** large fires in Pinus brutia(Turkish pine)and Pinus nigra *** ***(Anatolian black pine)—dominated forests during 2020 and 2021 were selected as study *** results show that geoCBI provided more reliable estimates of field—measured fire severity than *** Sentinel-2 and Landsat-8/OLI images performed similarly well,MODIS performed *** severity classification thresholds were determined for Sentinel-2 based RdNBR,dNBR,dSAVI,dNDVI,and dNDMI and Landsat-8/OLI based dNBR,dNDVI,and *** several spectral indices,the highest accuracy for fire severity classification was found for Sentinel-2 based RdNBR(72.1%)and Landsat-8/OLI based dNBR(69.2%).The results can be used to assess and map fire severity in forest ecosystems similar to those in this study.

DüzlerçamıWildlife Reserve Area(WRA)is the last natural habitat of fallow deer(Dama dama)in the *** deer is native to Turkey,however,its geographical range is currently confined to DüzlerçamıWRA,*** date,a detailed habitat investigation of fallow deer dis-tribution has not been *** study is vital for the last surviving populations of fallow deer in ***-fore,we studied the habitat suitability and utilization of fal-low deer in the Düzlerçamı*** and wildlife inventory was surveyed across a total of 304 sample areas between 2015 and *** species were recorded accord-ing to the Braun-Blanquet method and wildlife surveys were based on footprints,feces,and other signs of fallow *** and regression tree techniques,as well as MAXENT,were used to model vegetation and fallow deer *** position index,terrain ruggedness index,roughness index,elevation,and bedrock formation were also calculated and included in the *** on our results,we drafted a habitat protection map for fallow *** ensure sustainability of habitats where populations of fallow deer are found in Turkey,we developed recommen-dations such as closuring human access of the 1st-degree Protection Area and reintroduction of the species to other potential habitats.

Environmental control of daily stem radius increment in the montane conifer Cedrus libani

Effect of recycled brick powder on the properties of selfcompacting fiber reinforced mortars produced with different cement types

It is known that clay-based building materials such as bricks and tiles accumulate in landfills at the end of their useful *** an alternative,recycling clay-based building material can reduce the negative environmental *** brick powder(RBP)is obtained by grinding waste brick and tile collected from end-of-life *** the scope of the study,the use of self-compacting fiber reinforced mortars(SCFRMs)produced with RBP using CEM-I 42.5R and 52.5R class cements for two different cement classes was *** accordance with EFNARC,a water binding ratio of 0.42 was used to control the workability and strength of the *** the produced SCFRM,1%,2%,and 3%by weight binder Polypropylene(PP)fiber was added to the blends with 10%,20%,and 30%RBP substitutes.A total of 32 SCFRM mixes were produced and *** flexural and compressive strengths at 7,28,56,and 90 d were evaluated on the produced *** addition,porosity and water absorbency values were examined since these are significant for durability *** was observed that the use of RBP increases durability,and the use of fiber can have positive effects in terms of both durability and strength.

Analysis of a New Toothbrushing Technique through Plaque Removal Success

Background/Aims: Determining the levels of oral health and the quality of dental care are fundamental to building concepts of oral health. This study aims to assess toothbrushing techniques using a technical and physical model, clarifying how children and pre-adults learn to brush their teeth. Materials and Methods: Data were recorded from 23 participants, both male and female of various ages, using a proposed electronic toothbrush equipped with X-Y-Z axes pathways. The data, collected before and after training experiments, were processed with MATLAB to generate plots for the three axes. Results: The study revealed that most parameter values, such as Mean Difference Between Amplitudes (MAV, 6.00), Wilson Amplitude (WAMP, 179.419), and Average Amplitude Coupling (AAC, 1.270), decreased from before to after the experiments. Furthermore, the average overall epoch lengths (AVg) showed a 75% reduction in movement amplitude between the two experiments. Conclusion: Dentist observations indicated which brushing methods were acceptable or not. Analytical values suggest that individuals learn the toothbrushing technique effectively, and medical observations clearly demonstrate the success of the proposed method.

Potential Distribution Modeling and Morphology of Pelias barani(B?hme and Joger, 1983) in Turkey

The climatic preferences of Pelias barani, a rare Pontic endemic viper, are analysed and a new locality record is reported. According to species distribution modeling, with the average test AUC was was 0.904 ± 0.068, bioclimatic variables such as Precipitation of driest month（45.5%）, Temperature seasonality（18.9%）, Precipitation seasonality（17.9%） and Maximum temperature of warmest period（14.7%） appear to have the most useful information on geographic distribution of Pelias barani. Distribution models of Pelias barani under current climatic conditions showed better adaptation to the northwest and northeast part of Turkey.

The （n,f, k）： F（g） system consists ofn components and the system fails （works） if and only if there are at least flailed （working） components or at least k consecutive failed （working） components. These system models can be used in electronic equipment, automatic payment systems in banks, and furnace systems. In this paper we introduce and study the （n, f, k）：F and （n, f, k）： g systems consisting of weighted components. Recursive equations are presented for reliability evaluation of these new models. We also provide some conditions on the weights to represent weighted-（n,f, k） systems as usual （n,f, k） systems.

Theoretical demonstration of the hybrid focusing points of sonic crystal flat lenses and possible applications

We demonstrate the hybrid focusing points of sonic crystals for a multi-source array applied to flat sonic crystal lenses. The contributions of different point source couples form hybrid focusing points. Ray-trace analyses are conducted for acoustic flat lenses with multi-source configurations. The finite-difference time-domain （FDTD） simulation of flat lenses with multi-source configurations demonstrates the establishment of pure and hybrid focusing points in a pyramidal constellation. The number of focusing points in the pyramidal constellation depends on the number of point sources. We propose an acoustic device for fine-tuning the location of a far-field hybrid focusing point and discuss its benefits for acoustic energy focusing application.

The complete and incomplete fusion cross sections for ^(6)Li+^(209)Bi were measured using the in-beamγ-ray method around the Coulomb *** cross sections of(deuteron captured)incomplete fusion(ICF)products were re-quantified experimentally for this reaction *** results reveal that the ICF cross section is equivalent to that of complete fusion(CF)above the Coulomb barrier and dominant near or below the Coulomb barrier.A theoretical calculation based on the continuum discretized coupled channel(CDCC)method was performed for the aforementioned CF and ICF cross sections;the result is consistent with the *** universal fusion function(UFF)was also compared with the measured CF cross section for different barrier parameters,demonstrating that the CF suppression factor is significantly influenced by the choice of potential,which can reflect both dynamic and static effects of breakup on the fusion process.
