Impact of Non-Compliance of exposure Classes in Reinforced Concrete Structures

From the National Agency for the Organization and Construction of Infrastructures (ANOCI) program to the emerging Senegal Plan (PSe), construction in Senegal has improved considerably. However, deficiencies remain in the specification of materials used mainly in hydraulic concrete. They are generally related to the specification of aggregates for alkali reactivity and the choice of exposure classes specified in NF eN 206-1. The purpose of this article is to study the incidence of non-compliance with exposure classes in reinforced concrete structures. To carry out this study, surveys were carried out at several sites (districts) in Dakar (Cité Avion, Touba Ouakam, Cité Asecna, Cité batrain, Cité Comico, Cité Assemblée and Terme Sud) in order to collect information on the formulation and implementation methods used. The comparison of the various readings carried out made it possible to deduce conclusions and to give recommendations when using standard NF eN 206-1.

e_Breast: A Computerized Database Management System for Breast Diseases Patients in a Low Income Country

Objectives: To report our experience in using an electronic database for management of breast diseases in a developing country. Materials and methods: e-Breast is a database developed on FileMaker Pro Advanced to serve as patient file and breast diseases registry. The development of the platform, its usage and advantages on a manual filing system are described. Results: For 6 years, we use this database, which accounts more than 2000 patients and includes data from more than 10 years. An overview of the activity is easily generated by e-Breast. The generated reports are used to the routine care of patients, statistics and clinical research. Data entered are immediately useful in addition to simultaneously implement the database for clinical research. Many custom features are integrated. For research purposes, the system has the ability to perform detailed analyses on subsets defined by the user as breast cancer, breast benign diseases, etc. Conclusion: e-Breast has proven to be a useful way of documentation that has become an integral and essential part of the daily activity and also a valuable research tool.

Study of the Duration of Treatment in Drug Prescriptions Received in Pharmacies in Dakar

The prescription must include the name of the drugs or products prescribed, dosage form, dosage, directions for use and duration of treatment. However, sometimes errors can occur that can have consequences for the health of patients. Our study concerns the use of medical prescriptions received in pharmacies in the Dakar department. The survey was conducted in 90 pharmacies in these communes, which represent one third of the 270 pharmacies in the department of Dakar. This allowed us to study 2700 prescriptions. The study took place from 1 December 2016 to 30 June 2017, i.e. over a period of 7 months. Our results show that neurologists and urologists have a longer average treatment time than other specialists, with an average of 120 days and 90 days of treatment respectively. Then, the specialists who take a long time the drug represent more than 27%, and require renewal of the drug. In 63.90% of the cases, no notification on the duration of treatment was given by the prescriber. Only 5.39% were only given the mention “to be renewed”. At the end of our analysis, we can say that the prescription must be perfectly legible to avoid confusion by the patient or the pharmacist. The pharmacist then participates in the therapeutic education of the patient and thus helps him/her to live better with his/her disease. Therefore, socio-professional health associations and organisations must provide more continuous training on prescribing to ensure good compliance and above all avoid people buying medicines in the parallel circuit in order to better control health expenditure.

background: Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) has become the largest and most common cause of Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) related deaths worldwide, accounting for more than 50%. In Senegal, a few studies done on the topic showed a low prevalence of acute coronary syndrome in hospital settings. In the city of Saint-Louis in Northern Senegal, there is little epidemiological data on Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) and no study specifically concerned with ST-segment elevation Myocardial Infarction (STeMI) has been carried out to date. With this in mind, we conducted a study that focused on the analysis of STeMI patients hospitalized in the Cardiology Department of the Regional Hospital of Saint-Louis. The aim of our study was to collect and analyze the epidemiological aspect of STeMI. Results: There were 39 cases of STeMI, (i.e. 82.29% of ACS), giving a hospital prevalence of 8.21%. There was a slight male predominance with a male to female ratio of 1.05. The average age of our patients was 62.93 years ranging from 38 to 90 years. The average time between the onset of pain and arrival at the hospital was 50 hours, ranging from 1 hour to 720 hours. Patients received within the first 12 hours made up 66% (n = 26) of our population, among them, 80.76% (n = 21) (i.e. 53.84% of STeMIs) were able to benefit from thrombolysis. All thrombolysis was performed with Streptokinase. The mean time to thrombolysis was 6 hours ranging from 1 hour and 45 minutes to 11 hours. Arterial hypertension was the most frequent cardiovascular risk factor in our popular with a 43.6% prevalence, followed by diabetes (33.33%), then active smoking (23%). Chest pain was the most frequent symptom, reported in 34 patients (87.17%). The lesions on the electrocardiogram (eKG) were located in the anterior territory in 64% of the cases (n = 25), in the inferior territory in 28% of the cases (n = 11), in the circumferential territory in 5% of the cases (n = 2), and lateral territory in 5% of the cases (n = 2).
