The recovery and utilization of carbon dioxide(CO_(2))is the key to achieve the targets of peak carbon dioxide emissions and carbon *** Na-CO_(2)battery made with cheap alkali metal sodium and greenhouse gas CO_(2)is an effective strategy to consume CO_(2)and store clean renewable ***,the liquid electrolyte volatilization in the open battery system and inevitable dendrite growth restrict the application of Na-CO_(2)*** this work,magnesium-doped Na_(3)Zr_(2)Si_(2)PO_(12)(NZSP)was studied as a solid electrolyte for solid-state Na-CO_(2)*** ionic conductivity of Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)reaches 1.16 mS cm^(−1)at room temperature by replacing Zr ions in Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)with Mg ions,and the structural changes are analyzed by neutron powder *** composite electrolyte consisting of highly conductive Na_(3.2)Zr_(1.9)Mg_(0.1)Si_(2)PO_(12)and high processability poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene)(PVDf-HfP)is utilized for the first time to assemble a solid-state Na-CO_(2)*** cell shows a full discharge capacity of 7720 mAh g^(−1)at 200 mA g^(−1).The middle gap voltage is lower than 2 V after 120 cycles at 200 mA g^(−1)and at a cut-off capacity of 500 mAh g^(−1).This work demonstrates a promising strategy to design high-performance solid-state Na-CO_(2)batteries.

Optimal microgrid planning for enhancing ancillary service provision

Microgrids have presented themselves as an effective concept to guarantee a reliable,efficient and sustainable electricity delivery during the current transition era from passive to active distribution ***,microgrids could offer effective ancillary services(AS)to the power utility,although this will not be possible before the traditional planning and operation methodologies are ***,a probabilistic multi-objective microgrid planning(POMMP)methodology is proposed in this paper to contemplate the large number of variables,multiple objectives,and different constraints and uncertainties involved in the microgrid *** planning methodology is based on the optimal size and location of energy distributed resources with the goal of minimizing the mismatch power in islanded mode,while the residual power for AS provision and the investment and operation costs of the microgrid in grid-connected mode are maximized and minimized,*** that purpose,probabilistic models and a true multi-objective optimization problem are implemented in the *** methodology is tested in an adapted PG&E 69-bus distribution system and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithmⅡ(NSGA-Ⅱ)optimization method and an analytic hierarchy process for decision-making are used to solve the optimization problem.

This paper reports the design,implementation,and experimental phases of the EU H2020 QualiChain pilot“Staffing the Public Sector—The Case of Portugal”.The overall purpose of this pilot is to ensure the authenticity and integrity of the diplomas for all involved stakeholders and therefore to contribute to solving the diploma counterfeiting and/or falsification that is a great threat to the recruitment of qualified *** main innovative aspect of this solution is the integration that is offered between an Academic Management System(the *** platform)and a Blockchain(Ethereum)to automatically deploy *** solution helps the involved stakeholders trust the diplomas *** case study involves four different stakeholders and studies,specifically,the increase in their satisfaction in terms of diploma control,diploma veracity,and diploma *** developed system was tested with external participants who were asked to follow a set of guidelines and complete a survey to assess their *** system interactions were recorded,and the data were *** results indicated that the participants successfully executed the guidelines and that a perception increase toward diploma control,veracity,and credibility was identified.

A novel microporous two-dimensional(2D)Ni-based phosphonate metal-organic framework(MOf;denoted as IEf-13)has been successfully synthesized by a simple and green hydrothermal method and fully characterized using a combination of experimental and computational *** resolution by single-crystal X-ray diffraction reveals that IEf-13 crystallizes in the triclinic space group Pi having bi-octahedra nickel nodes and a photo/electroactive tritopic phosphonate ***,this material exhibits coordinatively unsaturated nickel(II)sites,free-P0_(3)H_(2)and-P0_(3)H acidic groups,a C0_(2)accessible microporosity,and an exceptional thermal and chemical ***,its in-deep optoelectronic characterization evidences a photoresponse suitable for *** this sense,the photocatalytic activity for challenging H_(2)generation and overall water splitting in absence of any co-catalyst using UV-Vis irradiation and simulated sunlight has been evaluated,constituting the first report for a phosphonate-MOf ***-13 is able to produce up to 2,200 fimol of H_(2)per gram using methanol as sacrificial agent,exhibiting stability,maintaining its crystal structure and allowing its *** more,170μmol of H_(2)per gram were produced using IEf-13 as photocatalyst in the absence of any co-catalyst for the overall water splitting,being this reaction limited by the 0_(2)*** present work opens new avenues for further optimization of the photocatalytic activity in this type of multifunctional materials.

Ancient road transport devices： Developments from the Bronze Age to the Roman Empire

The development of transportation systems has significantly enhanced the welfare and modernization of society. Wooden vehicles pulled by animals have been used for land transportation since the early Bronze Age. Whole-body gharries with rigid wheels pulled by oxen appeared in Crete by 2000 BC or earlier. Horses originating from the East were depicted in early Cretan seal-rings of the same period. The two-wheeled horse- drawn chariot was one of the most important inventions in history. This vehicle provided humanity its first concept of personal transport and was the key technology of war for 2000 years. Chariots of Mycenaean and Archaic Greece with light and flexible four-spoked wheels acting as spring suspensions were depicted in vase paintings. The development of this vehicle incorporated the seeds of a primitive design activity and was important for engineering. The Trojan horse since 1194 BC and the helepolis since 700 BC were the first known machines on a wheeled base transported by horses or self-powered. Ancient engineers invented bearings lubricated with fat, and Romans introduced the ancestors of ball bearings for their wagons and carts. The historic evolution of wheeled transportation systems, along with early traction, suspension, and braking systems, is presented in this paper. Analytical and numerical methods are incorporated to analyze the most conceivable loading situations of typically reconstructed wheeled transportation systems in ancient times. Traction requirements both for horse-driven machines and the power for internal motors are also analyzed. This study can serve as a basis for further development of detailed reconstruction of transportation systems in antiquity.

Reactive pathways toward parasitic release of singlet oxygen in metal-air batteries

The superoxide disproportionation reaction is a key step in the chemistry of aprotic metal oxygen batteries that controls the peroxide formation upon discharge and opens the way for singlet oxygen *** we clarify the energy landscape of the disproportionation of superoxide in aprotic media catalyzed by group 1A *** analysis is based on ab initio multireference computational methods and unveils the competition between the expected reactive path leading to peroxide and an unexpected reaction channel that involves the reduction of the alkaline *** channels lead to the release of triplet and singlet O_(2).The existence of this reduction channel not only facilitates singlet oxygen release but leads to a reactive neutral solvated species that can onset parasitic chemistries due to their well-known reducing ***,we show that the application of moderate overpotentials makes both these channels accessible in aprotic batteries.
