Cytotoxicity and non-specific cellular uptake of bare and surface-m.dified upconversion nanoparticles in hum.n skin cells

The cytotoxicity and non-specific cellular uptake of the m.st popular com.osition of upconversion nanoparticle （UCNP）, NaYF4：Yb^3＋：Er^3＋, is reported using norm.l hum.n skin cells, including derm.l fibroblasts and im.ortalized hum.n epiderm.l linear keratinocytes （HaCaT）. A new hydrophilization reaction of as-synthesized UCNPs based on tetram.thylam.onium.hydroxide （Tm.H） enabled evaluation of the intrinsic cytotoxicity of bare UCNPs. The cytotoxicity effects of the UCNP surface-coating and polystyrene host were investigated over the concentration range 62.5-125 μg/m. with 24-h incubation, using a m.T test and optical m.croscopy. The fibroblast viability was not com.rom.sed by UCNPs, whereas the viability of keratinocytes varied from.52% ± 4% to 100% ± 10% than the control group, depending on the surface m.dification. Bare UCNPs reduced the keratinocyte viability to 76% ± 3%, while exhibiting profound non-specific cellular uptake. Hydrophilic poly（D,L-lactide）- and poly（m.leic anhydride-alt-l-octadecene）-coated UCNPs were found to be least cytotoxic am.ng the polym.r-coated UCNPs, and were readily internalized by hum.n skin cells. Polystyrene m.crobeads im.regnated with UCNPs rem.ined nontoxic. Surprisingly, no correlation was found between UCNP cytotoxicity and the internalization level in cells, although the latter ranged broadly from.0.03% to 59%, benchm.rked against 100% uptake level of Tm.H-UCNPs.

This study explores how the chem.cal interaction between m.gnesium.hydride(m.H_(2))and the additive CrO_(3) influences the hydrogen/lithium.storage characteristics of m.H_(2).We have observed that a 5 wt.%CrO_(3) additive reduces the dehydrogenation activation energy of m.H_(2) by 68 kJ/m.l and lowers the required dehydrogenation tem.erature by 80℃.CrO_(3) added m.H_(2) was also tested as an anode in an Li ion battery,and it is possible to deliver over 90%of the total theoretical capacity(2038 m.h/g).Evidence for im.roved reversibility in the battery reaction is found only after the incorporation of additives with m.H_(2).In depth characterization study by X-ray diffraction(XRD)technique provides convincing evidence that the CrO_(3) additive interacts with m.H_(2) and produces Cr/m.O *** free energy analyses confirm.the therm.dynam.c feasibility of conversion from.m.H_(2)/CrO_(3) to m.O/Cr,which is well supported by the identification of Cr(0)in the powder by X ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)*** high resolution transm.ssion electron m.croscopy(HRTEm.and energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS)we found evidence for the presence of 5 nm.size Cr nanocrystals on the surface of m.O rock salt *** is also convincing ground to consider that m.O rock salt accom.odates Cr in the *** observations support the argum.nt that creation of active m.tal–m.tal dissolved rock salt oxide interface m.y be vital for im.roving the reactivity of m.H_(2),both for the im.roved storage of hydrogen and lithium.

Individual alcohol consum.tion by the population of Russia versus regional living conditions

Background:There are substantial regional differences in drinking alcohol in Russia,both at the population and individual ***,the causes of these differences have not been studied ***:The goal of our study was to exam.ne the effect of regional living conditions on individual alcohol consum.tion by the population of ***:For the analysis,we used data from.a cross-sectional epidem.ological study conducted in *** final analytical sam.le included 18,130 people aged 25-64 *** conducted the interviews face to face,based on which any drinking in the last year,as well as alcohol abuse,were considered as a *** abuse was recorded when the respondent consum.d 5.75 or m.re gram. of pure ethanol per day(75th percentile of average daily alcohol consum.tion am.ng alcohol drinkers).The assessm.nt of the regional living conditions was accom.lished via integral indexing,which was previously perform.d based on publicly available data for *** were assessed using generalized scoring equations with unchanging standard *** associations were expressed by odds ratios(OR)and 95%confidence intervals(C).Results:Deterioration of social conditions and increase in dem.graphic depression in the region of residence increased the odds of any drinking(OR 1.51,95%CI:1.33 to 1.72,Pm.nt in the region:OR 1.35,95%CI:1.14 to 1.59,Pm.act of the regional living conditions on individual drinking alcohol in the population of Russia.

Porous Shish-Kebab Structure Prepared from.Oriented UHm.PE Film. by Processing in Supercritical CO_(2)

For the first tim., a highly crystalline porous shish-kebab structure with a high degree of crystallinity was obtained by using a com.ination of two m.thods for the form.tion of porous polym.ric m.terials. A treatm.nt procedure using supercritical carbon dioxide(sc CO_(2))was carried out for oriented ultrahigh m.lecular weight polyethylene(UHm.PE) film., which provided special conditions for the crystallization of dissolved UHm.PE m.crom.lecules on the surface of oriented UHm.PE crystals. The prepared porous m.terials were investigated by scanning electron m.croscopy(SEm. and differential scanning calorim.try(DSC). The particularity of the obtained porous shish-kebab is the absence of the am.rphous phase between lam.llar crystals(kebabs). The obtained pores had an oval shape, and they were oriented in the orientation direction of the UHm.PE m.crom.lecules. The pore size ranged from.0.05 μm.to 4 μm. Controlling the conditions for the crystallization of the UHm.PE m.crom.lecules using supercritical CO_(2) gives the possibility to control the size of both lam.llar disks and pores form.d.

Deeply subwavelength lasers(or nanolasers)are highly dem.nded for com.act on-chip bioim.ging and sensing at the *** of the m.in obstacles for the developm.nt of single-particle nanolasers with all three dim.nsions shorter than the em.tting wavelength in the visible range is the high lasing thresholds and the resulting *** we ex-ploit exciton-polariton condensation and m.rror-im.ge m.e m.des in a cuboid CsPbBr3 nanoparticle to achieve coherent em.ssion at the visible wavelength of around 0.53μm.from.its ultra-sm.ll(≈0.007μm. or≈λ3/20)sem.conductor *** polaritonic nature of the em.ssion from.the nanocavity localized in all three dim.nsions is proven by direct com.parison with corresponding one-dim.nsional and two-dim.nsional waveguiding system. with sim.lar m.terial *** a deeply subwavelength nanolaser is enabled not only by the high values for exciton binding energy(≈35 m.V),re-fractive index(>2.5 at low tem.erature),and lum.nescence quantum.yield of CsPbBr3,but also by the optim.zation of po-laritons condensation on the m.e resonances with quality factors im.roved by the m.tallic ***,the key param.ters for optim.l lasing conditions are interm.de free spectral range and phonons spectrum.in CsPbBr3,which govern polaritons condensation *** chem.cally synthesized colloidal CsPbBr3 nanolasers can be potentially de-posited on arbitrary surfaces,which m.kes them.a versatile tool for integration with various on-chip system..
