Contact with environmental microbes are arguably the most common species interaction in which any animal *** have noted diverse relationships between hosts and resident microbes,which can have strong consequences for host development,physiology,and behavior. Many of these studies focus specifically on pathogens or beneficial microbes,while the benign microbes,of which the majority of bacteria could be described,are often ***,we explore the nature of the relationships between the grass spider Agelenopsis pennsylvanica and bacteria collected from their cuticles in ***,using culture-based methods,we identified a portion of the cuticular bacterial communities that are naturally associated with these ***,we topically exposed spiders to a subset of these bacterial monocultures to estimate how bacterial exposure may alter 3 host behavioral traits:boldness,aggressiveness,and activity *** conducted these behavioral assays 3 times before and 3 times after topical application,and compared the changes observed in each trait with spiders that were exposed to a sterile control *** identified 9 species of bacteria from the cuticles of 36 spiders and exposed groups of 20 spiders to 1 of 4 species of cuticular *** found that exposure to Dermacoccus nishinomiyaensis and Staphylococcus saprophyticus was associated with a lO-fold decrease in the foraging aggressiveness of spiders toward prey in their *** bacterial exposure did not have survival consequences for hosts,these data suggest that interactions with cuticular bacteria,even non- pathogenic bacteria,could alter host behavior.

The Role of PIN Auxin Efflux Carriers in Polar Auxin Transport and Accumulation and Their Effect on Shaping Maize Development

In plants, proper seed development and the continuing post-embryonic organogenesis both require that dif- ferent cell types are correctly differentiated in response to internal and external stimuli. Among internal stimuli, plant hormones and particularly auxin and its polar transport （PAT） have been shown to regulate a multitude of plant phys- iological processes during vegetative and reproductive development. Although our current auxin knowledge is almost based on the results from researches on the eudicot Arabidopsis thaliana, during the last few years, many studies tried to transfer this knowledge from model to crop species, maize in particular. Applications of auxin transport inhibitors, mutant characterization, and molecular and cell biology approaches, facilitated by the sequencing of the maize genome, allowed the identification of genes involved in auxin metabolism, signaling, and particularly in polar auxin transport. PIN auxin efflux carriers have been shown to play an essential role in regulating PAT during both seed and post-embryonic development in maize. In this review, we provide a summary of the recent findings on PIN-mediated polar auxin transport during maize development. Similarities and differences between maize and Arabidopsis are analyzed and discussed, also considering that their different plant architecture depends on the differentiation of structures whose development is con- trolled by auxins.

Theγδcells are a unique population of T lymphocytes that combine innate-like features and adaptive-type responses and play an important role in the early host response to infections and *** fromαβT cells,γδT cells recognize a limited set of antigens,which are shared by a variety of microbial pathogens and tumor cells in a non-MHC restricted manner;1 thus,these cells use the TCR in a manner similar to a pattern recognition receptor(PRR).Moreover,whereasαβT cells require antigen-and cytokine-driven clonal expansion,γδT cells are equipped with immediate effector functions.1 However,the potentialγδrepertoire with junctional diversity is estimated at∼10^(18),which is much greater than theαβrepertoire(∼10^(16)),thus raising questions concerning the forces governing the selection of such a huge TCR repertoire during ontogeny and whether and how theγδTCR repertoire is shaped under physiological and pathological conditions.

Mapping the quality of prenatal and postnatal care and demographic differences on child mortality in 26 low to middle-income countries

Background Closing the gap between child mortality in low-and middle-income countries(LMICs)and high-income countries is a priority set by the WHO in sustainable development goals(SDGs).We aimed to examine poor nutrition and prenatal and postnatal care that could increase the risk of child mortality in *** The Demographic and Health Survey(DHS)was used to examine data from 26 countries to compare prenatal,postnatal,nutritional,and demographic factors across *** of child death was classified into death before one month of age,between 1 to 11 months,between one to two years,between three to five years,and overall death before five ***-square analyses identified differences in prenatal care,postnatal care,nutrition,and demographic factors between children who died and those who *** regression identified factors that increased child mortality *** The majority of deaths occurred before the ages of one month and one *** poorer quality of prenatal care,postnatal care,and nutrition were found in low-income and low-middle-income countries in the contemporary *** child mortality and poor quality of prenatal and postnatal care coincide with low *** in LMICs were exposed to less vitamin A-rich foods than children in higher-middle-income *** use of intestinal parasite drugs and the absence of postpartum maternal vitamin A supplementation significantly increased child mortality *** socio-demographic risk factors were associated with an increased mortality rate in children,including lack of education,maternal marital status,family wealth index,living rurally,and financial problems hindering access to *** Poor nutrition remains a vital factor across all LMICs,with numerous children being exposed to foods low in iron and vitamin ***,most deaths occur in neonates and infants,indicating an urgent need to address risk factors associated with early chil

Can peer-to-peer lending platforms mitigate fraudulent behaviors?Or have lending players been acting similar to free-riders?This paper constructs a new proxy to investigate lending platform misconduct and compares the FICO score and the LendingClub credit *** examine whether the lack of verification by the Fintech platform affects lenders’collection performance,I explore the recovery rate(RR)of non-performing loans through a mixed-continuous *** regression results show that the degree of prudence taken by the lending platform in the pre-screening activity negatively affects the detection of some misreporting borrowers.I also find that the Fintech platform’s missing verification information(e.g.,annual income and employment length)affects the RR of non-performing loans,thereby hampering lenders’collection performance.
