BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in transplanting patients with hepatocellularcarcinoma (HCC) with tumors greater than 5 cm (Milan criteria).AIM To investigate possible prognostically-useful factors for liver transplantation inHCC patients with large *** In this clinical study, 50 patients with HCC who were transplanted at our LiverTransplant Center between April 2006 and August 2019 and had tumors greaterthan 6 cm maximum diameter were retrospectively analyzed. Their survival andfull clinical characteristics were examined, with respect to serum alphafetoprotein(AFP) and gamma glutamyl transpeptidase (GGT) levels. Kaplan-Meier survival estimates were used to determine overall survival and disease-freesurvival in these patients. The inclusion criterion was evidence of HCC. Exclusioncriteria were the presence of macroscopic portal vein thrombosis or metastasisand a follow-up period of less than 90 *** Using receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) analysis, cutoff values of AFP200 ng/mL and GGT 104 IU/L were identified and used in this *** longer overall survival (OS) and disease-free-survival (DFS) were found in patients who had lower values of either parameter, compared withhigher values. Even greater differences in survival were found when the 2parameters were combined. Two tumor size bands were identified, in searchingfor the limits of this approach with larger tumors, namely 6-10 cm and > 10 *** parameters in the 6-10 cm band reflected 5-year OS of 76.2% inpatients with low AFP plus low GGT vs 0% for all other groups. Patients withtumors greater than 10 cm, did not have low AFP plus low GGT. Petrogenesis of the ükapili Granitoid and its Mafic Enclaves in Elmal Area (Nigde, Central Anatolia, Turkey)

The Late Cretaceous Uckapth Granitoid including mafic microgranular enclaves intruded into metapelitic and metabasic rocks, and overlain unconformably by Neogene ignimbrites in the Ni^de area of Turkey. It is mostly granite and minor granodiorite in composition, whereas its enclaves are dominantly gabbro with a few diorites in composition. The Uckapdl Granitoid is composed mainly of quartz, K-feldspar, plagioclase, biotite, muscovite and minor amphibole while its enclaves contain mostly plagioclase, amphibole, minor pyroxene and biotite. The Uckapth Granitoid has calcalkaline and peraluminous （AJCNK= 1.0-1.3） geochemical characteristics. It is characterized by high LILE/HFSE and LREE/HREE ratios （（La/Lu）N 3-33）, and has negative Ba, Ta, Nb and Eu anomalies, resembling those of comsion granitoids. The {）fkaplh Granitoid has relatively high STSr/S6Sr0） ratios （0.711189--0.716061） and low eNd（t） values （-5.13 to -7.13）, confirming crustal melting. In contrast, the enclaves are tholeiitic and metaluminous, and slightly enriched in LILEs （K, Rb） and Th, and have negative Ta, Nb and Ti anomalies; propose that they were derived from a subduction-modified mantle source. Based on mineral and whole rock chemistry data, the Uckapth granitoid is H-（hybrid） type, post-collision granitoid developed by mixing/mingllng processes between crustal melts and mantle-derived mafic magmas.

In vitro antibacterial and antitumor activities of some medicinal plant extracts, growing in Turkey

Objective: To investigate antibacterial and antitumor activities of 51 different extracts prepared with 3 types of solvents (water, ethanol and methanol) of 16 different plant species (Ajuga reptans (A. reptans) L., Phlomis pungens (P. pungens) Willd., Marrubium astracanicum (M. astracanicum) Jacq., Nepeta nuda (N. nuda) L., Stachys annua (S. annua) L., Genista lydia (G. lydia) Boiss., Nuphar lutea (N. lutea) L., Nymphaea alba (N. alba) L., Vinca minor (V. minor) L., Stellaria media (S. media) L., Capsella bursa-pastoris (C. bursa-pastoris) L., Galium spurium (G. spurium) L., Onosma heterophyllum (O. heterophyllum) Griseb., Reseda luteola (R. luteola) L., Viburnum lantana (V. lantana) L. and Mercurialis annua (M. annua) L.) grown in Turkey was conducted. Methods: Antibacterial activity was evaluated with 10 bacteria including Streptococcus pyogenes (S. pyogenes), Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis), Escheria coli (E. coli), Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa), Salmonella typhimurium (S. typhimurium), Serratia marcescens (S. marcescens), Proteus vulgaris (P. vulgaris), Enterobacter cloacae (E. cloacea), and Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae) by using disc diffusion method. Antitumor activity was evaluated with Agrobacterium tumefaciens (A. tumefaciens)-induced potato disc tumor assay. Results: Best antibacterial activity was obtained with ethanolic extract of P. pungens against S. pyogenes . Ethanolic and methanolic extract of N. alba and ethanolic extract of G. lydia also showed strong antibacterial activities. Results indicated that alcoholic extracts especially ethanolic extracts exhibited strong antibacterial activity against both gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. Best antitumor activity was obtained with methanolic extracts of N. alba and V. lantana (100% tumor inhibition). This paper investigates the effects of tool holder materials on chatter vibration in turning *** study uses a complex dynamic turning model with two degrees of freedom for the orthogonal cutting *** holders made from different materials,including Al 5083,Al 6082,Al 7012,and a standard 4140 material,were subjected to chatter vibration to investigate their process damping *** study found that the standard tool holder 4140 allows for higher stable depths of cut and produces similar process damping values compared to the other tool *** element analyses(FEA)were performed to verify the experimental results,and the modal and FEA analyses produced very similar *** study concludes that future research should investigate the effects of tool holders made from high alloy steel alloys on process ***,this paper provides important insights into the effects of tool hold-er materials on chatter vibration and process damping in turning operations,which can help in the design of more effi-cient and effective cutting systems.
