evaluation of periglacial landforms and formation of soil properties on the Mount Honaz,SW Türkiye

The main aim of this study is to explain periglacial processes on the summits of Mount Honaz(2571 m a.s.l.),define periglacial landforms,and determine the relationships between morphometric features and topographic *** circles,stony earth circles,non sorted steps,and non sorted stripes were identified on the summits of Mount ***'s correlation coefficient(r)and linear regression analyses were performed by taking metric measurements from 125 periglacial landforms to describe their morphometric features(length,width,height)of periglacial landforms and explain the relationships between them and topographic factors(elevation,slope).To explain the relationships between periglacial landforms and soil properties,soil samples from 11 periglacial landforms were taken and *** landforms,which continue to develop on the summits of Mount Honaz today,have been evaluated with present climate *** of soil samples indicates a notable impact of parent material on the genesis of periglacial *** high ratio of organic matter in mud circle and non sorted step landforms and the high lime ratio in stony earth circle landforms prove a strong relationship between the formation mechanisms of landforms and the soil ***,it is consistent with the findings obtained from the analysis that severe periglacial processes and washing and scavenging events are experienced more on the northern slopes.

Removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals from water through urethane functionalization of microfiltration membranes via electron beam irradiation

Polyethersulphone(PeS)membranes modified with urethane functional groups were prepared through an interfacial reaction using electron beam *** removal of eight endocrine disrupting chemicals(eDCs)was studied using both pristine and functionalized PeS *** prepared membranes underwent characterization using several techniques,including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,contact angle analysis,and measurements of pure water ***,dynamic adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption mechanism of the prepared membrane toward the eight *** urethane functionalized membranes were hydrophilic(52°contact angle)and maintained a high permeate flux(26000 L/h m^(2) bar)throughout the filtration *** adsorption results demonstrated that the introduction of urethane functional groups on the membranes significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of 17β-estradiol,estriol,bisphenol A,estrone,ethinylestradiol,and *** adsorption loading of 17β-estradiol on the functionalized PeS membrane was 6.7±0.7 mg/m^(2),exhibiting a 5-fold increase compared to the unmodified PeS *** membranes were successfully regenerated and reused for three adsorption cycles without experiencing any loss of adsorption capacity.

When data privacy is imposed as a necessity,Federated learning(FL)emerges as a relevant artificial intelligence field for developing machine learning(ML)models in a distributed and decentralized *** allows ML models to be trained on local devices without any need for centralized data transfer,thereby reducing both the exposure of sensitive data and the possibility of data interception by malicious third *** paradigm has gained momentum in the last few years,spurred by the plethora of real-world applications that have leveraged its ability to improve the efficiency of distributed learning and to accommodate numerous participants with their data *** virtue of FL,models can be learned from all such distributed data sources while preserving data *** aim of this paper is to provide a practical tutorial on FL,including a short methodology and a systematic analysis of existing software ***,our tutorial provides exemplary cases of study from three complementary perspectives:i)Foundations of FL,describing the main components of FL,from key elements to FL categories;ii)Implementation guidelines and exemplary cases of study,by systematically examining the functionalities provided by existing software frameworks for FL deployment,devising a methodology to design a FL scenario,and providing exemplary cases of study with source code for different ML approaches;and iii)Trends,shortly reviewing a non-exhaustive list of research directions that are under active investigation in the current FL *** ultimate purpose of this work is to establish itself as a referential work for researchers,developers,and data scientists willing to explore the capabilities of FL in practical applications.

Is there more than one stickiness criterion?

Adhesion between an elastic body and a smooth,rigid substrate can lead to large tensile stresses between ***,most macroscopic objects are microscopically rough,which strongly suppresses adhesion.A fierce debate has unfolded recently as to whether local or global parameters determine the crossover between small and large ***,we report simulations revealing that the dependence of the pull-off force Fn on the surface energyγdoes not only have two regimes of high and low adhesion but up to four *** are related to contacts,which at the moment of rupture consist of(i)the last individual Hertzian-shaped contact,in which is linear inγ,(ii)a last meso-scale,individual patches with super-linear scaling,(iii)many isolated contact patches with extremely strong scaling,and(iv)a dominating largest contact patch,for which the pull-off stress is no longer negligible compared to the maximum,microscopic pull-off ***(iii)can be seen as a transition *** is located near the point where the surface energy is half the elastic energy per unit area in conformal contact.A criterion for the transition between regimes(i)and(ii)appears difficult to grasp.

In this review, we intend to clarify the underlying ideas and the relations between various multigrid methods ranging from subset decomposition, to projected subspace decomposition and truncated multigrid. In addition, we present a novel globally convergent inexact active set method which is closely related to truncated multigrid. The numerical properties of algorithms are carefully assessed by means of a degenerate problem and a problem with a complicated coincidence set.

Central hepatectomy for centrally located malignant liver tumors: A systematic review

AIM: To study whether central hepatectomy(CH) canachieve similar overall patient survival and disease-freesurvival rates as conventional major hepatectomies ***: A systematic literature search was per-formed in MeDLINe for articles published from January1983 to June 2013 to evaluate the evidence for andagainst CH in the management of central hepatic malig-nancies and to compare the perioperative variables andoutcomes of CH to lobar/extended hemihepatectomy. ReSULTS: A total of 895 patients were included from21 relevant studies. Most of these patients who un-derwent CH were a sub-cohort of larger liver resectionstudies. Only 4 studies directly compared Central vshemi-/extended hepatectomies. The range of opera-tive time for CH was reported to be 115 to 627 min andPringle's maneuver was used for vascular control in themajority of studies. The mean intraoperative blood lossduring CH ranged from 380 to 2450 mL. The reportedmorbidity rates ranged from 5.1% to 61.1%, the most common surgical complication was bile leakage and the most common cause of mortality was liver failure. Mor-tality ranged from 0.0% to 7.1% with an overall mor-tality of 2.3% following CH. The 1-year overall survival(OS) for patients underwent CH for hepatocellular car-cinoma ranged from 67% to 94%; with the 3-year and 5-year OS having a reported range of 44% to 66.8%, and 31.7% to 66.8% respectively. CONCLUSION: Based on current literature, CH is a promising option for anatomical parenchymal-preserv-ing procedure in patients with centrally located liver malignancies; it appears to be safe and comparable in both perioperative, early and long term outcomes when compared to patients undergoing hemi-/extended hepatectomy. More prospective studies are awaited to further define its role.

The main aims of the current study are to determine the morphological features of the periglacial landforms(non-sorted step,mud circle,stony earth circle,thufur,and congeliturbation)located on the Ilgaz Mountains,examine the physicochemical and mineralogical properties with pedological processes of the soils,and assess of the effects of climatic conditions controlling the development of *** Ilgaz Mountains(2587 m a.s.l.),located in the Western Black Sea Region,within the Anatolian Mountains,are important in terms of periglacial landforms(mud circles,stony earth circles,thufurs,non-sorted steps,non-sorted stripes,congeliturbation deposits,and block currents).The descriptive statistics of 123 periglacial landforms measured by fieldworks were *** distribution of freezing and thawing in the Ilgaz Mountains throughout the year was evaluated,and it was found that freezing takes place between December and March,freezing-thawing takes place in April,May,October and November,and thawing takes place between June and *** to soil properties,organic matter content changes from 1.88%to 12.72%in non-sorted step soils,while it is between 2.03%and 12.24%in stony earth circle *** organic matter is obser.ed to be close to congeliturbation deposits at lower ratios compared to non-sorted steps,stony earth circles and mud *** soil reactions on stony earth circles and non-sorted steps vary between slightly acidic and slightly *** the other hand,soil samples taken from the mud circles are different from those taken from the non-sorted steps and stony earth *** soil reaction is acidic,and pH changes between 4.86 and *** lime content also varies between 2.81%and 32.08%,with an average of 12.02%.The texture properties of soils are dominantly loam and clay loam,as in the non-sorted steps,stony earth circles,and mud *** their mineralogical properties,the XRD study was carried out to determine the primer mineral

Characterization of different plasma-treated cobalt oxide catalysts for oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline media

Plasma-synthesized cobalt oxide supported on carbon has been analyzed for its use for electrocatalytic oxygen reduction reaction （ORR） in alkaline anion exchange membrane fuel cells （AeMFC）. This work presents the ORR activity in 0.1 mol L-1 KOH and 0.1 tool L-1 K2CO3 at 25 ℃. Cyclic voltammetry （CV） was used to determine the potentials at which the ORR occurs and to evaluate the stability of catalyst. Moreover, a rotating ring-disk electrode （RRDe） was used to investigate the activity of the catalysts and the formation of the by-product hydroperoxide anion （HO2-） as well as to identify the preferred pathway of the ORR. Calculated kinetic parameters for the ORR for the cobalt catalysts are shown in this work together with a comparison to a commercial platinum catalyst. However, the cobalt oxide produced more by-products which could lead to damage of the membrane in a fuel cell through a radical attack of the polymer backbone.
