Studies on mass attenuation coefficients for some body tissues with different medical sources and their validation using Monte Carlo codes

The mass attenuation coefficients of the breasts,lungs,kidneys,pancreas,liver,eye lenses,thyroid,brain,ovary,heart,large intestines,blood,skin,spleen,muscle,and cortical bone were measured at different sources(i.e.,0.021,0.029,0.03,0.14,0.218,0.38,0.412,0.663,0.83,and 1.25 MeV)using various methods including the Monte Carlo N-particle transport code(MCNP),the geometry and tracking code(GEANT4),and theoretical approach described in this *** attenuation coefficients were also compared with the values from the national institute of standards and technology(NIST-XCOM).The values obtained were similar to those obtained using *** results show that the theoretical method is quite convenient in comparison with GEANT4 and MCNP in the calculation of the mass attenuation coefficients of the human body samples applied when compared with the NIST values and demonstrated an acceptable difference.

Subclinical electroencephalogram discharges in children with psycho-cognitiVe problems are not uncommon. However, the clinical importance and relationship to cognitive deficits, as well as indications for medical treatment, are not well understood. Transient cognitive impairment, which accompanies electroencephalogram discharges, could negatively influence cognitive abilities over time. Studies have suggested that treatment with antiepileptic drugs normalizes electroencephalogram results, thereby preventing electrical paroxysmal discharges that could be harmful to the developing brain. Physicians should attempt to differentiate between corresponding factors, such as subtle seizures, nature of underlying etiology, stable cognitive deficits, seizure-inducing effects, and potential side effects of antiepileptic drugs prior to initiation of medical treatment for definitive diagnosis of transient cognitive impairment and its consequences. Therefore appropriate criteria for patient selection and proper guidelines for medical therapy, should be addressed in future studies.

Background： Reducing labor pain and anxiety is one of the most important goals of maternity care. Objective： This study aimed to assess the effects of aromatherapy with Rosa damascena on pain and anxiety in the first stage of labor among nulliparous women. Design, setting, participants and interventions： This was a randomized clinical trial of 110 nulliparous women. The eligible participants were randomly assigned to two groups of aromatherapy and control in an Iranian maternity hospital. The participants received 0.08 mL of Rosa damascena essence in the aro- matherapy group and 0.08 mL of normal saline in the control group, every 30 min. Pain was measured 3 times, once each at three stages of cervical dilation （4-5, 6-7, and 8-10 cm）. Anxiety was measured twice, once each at two stages of cervical dilation （4-7 and 8-10 cm）. The tools for data collection were the Spielberger anxiety questionnaire, numerical pain rating scale, demographic and obstetric questionnaire, and an observational checklist. Data analyses included the t-test, Mann-Whitney U test and Chi-square test. Main outcome measures： Severity of labor pain and severity of anxiety were used as primary outcome measures. Labor and delivery characteristics （including number of contractions, duration of contractions in second stage, Bishop score, augmentation by oxytocin, Apgar score, and mode of delivery）, demographic characteristics, and fertility information were used as secondary outcome measures. Results： Pain severity in the group receiving aromatherapy with R. damoscena was significantly lower than in the control group after treatment at each pain assessment （cervical dilation of 4-5, 6-7, and 8-10 cm; P 〈 0.05）. Anxiety levels were also significantly lower in the treatment group than in the control group after treatment at each time of measurement （cervical dilation of 4-7 and 8-10 cm; P 〈 0.05）. Biochar is a product of pyrolysis of biomass in the absence of oxygen and has a high potential to sequester carbon into more stable soil organic carbon (OC).Despite the large number of studies on biochar and soil properties,few studies have investigated the effects of biochar in contrasting *** current research was conducted to evaluate the effects of different biochar levels (0 (as control),1% and 3%) on several soil physiochemical properties and nitrate leaching in two soil types (loamy sand and clay)under greenhouse conditions and wet-dry *** experiment was performed using a randomized design with three levels of biochar produced from rice husks at 500 ℃ in three *** exchange capacity increased significantly,by 20% and 30% in 1% and 3% biochar-amended loamy sand soil,respectively,and increases were 9% and 19% in 1% and 3% biochar-amended clay soil,*** sand soil did not show improvement in aggregate indices,including mean weight diameter,geometric mean diameter,water stable aggregates and fractal dimension,which was contrary to the results for the clay *** husk biochar application at the both rates decreased nitrate leaching in the clay soil more than in the loamy *** study highlights the importance of soil type in determining the value of biochar as a soil amendment to improve soil properties,particularly soil aggregation and reduced nitrate *** benefits of the biochar in the clay soil were greater than in the loamy sand soil.

Surface of TiO2 nanoparticles was modified with the in situ chemical oxidative polymerization of aniline. Polyaniline modified TiO2 nanoparticles （PANI-TiO2） were characterized with the FT-IR, XRD, SEM and TEM techniques. Results confirmed that PANI was grafted successfully on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles, therefore agglomeration of nanoparticles decreased dramatically. Polyvinyl chloride nanocomposites filled with 1 wt%-5 wt% of PANI-TiO2 and TiO2 nanoparticles were prepared via the solution blending method. PVC nanocomposites were analyzed with FT-IR, XRD, SEM, TG/DTA, DSC and tensile test techniques. Effect of PANI as surface modifier of nanoparticles was discussed according to the final properties of PVC nanocomposites. Results demonstrated that deposition of PANI on the surface of TiO2 nanoparticles improved the interfacial adhesion between the constituents of nanocomposites, which resulted in better dispersion of nanoparticles in the PVC matrix. Also PVC/PANI-TiO2 nanocomposites showed higher thennal resistance, tensile strength and Young＇s modulus compared to those of unfilled PVC and PVC/TiO2 nanocomposites.

Bioinspired Soft Bending Actuators (SBA) are increasingly being used in rehabilitation, assistant robots, and grippers. Despite many investigations on free motion modeling, understanding how these actuators interact with the environment requires more detailed research. It is caused by high compliance and nonlinearity of bioinspired soft material, which leads to serious challenges in contact conditions. In this paper, a continuous deformation analysis is presented to describe the free motion nonlinear behavior of the actuator. Based on the achieved result, this study proposes static modeling of SBA affected by a concentrated external force. For this purpose, the finite rigid element method is utilized, which is based on discretizing the actuator into smaller parts and assuming these parts as rigid serial links connected by nonlinear torsional springs. To verify the proposed model, two kinds of forces are considered to be acting on the actuator, i.e. following force and constant direction force. In addition, the effect of gravity on the actuator configuration is also investigated. The validity of the model has been demonstrated through experiments in free motion, contact conditions and the presence of gravity. It generally shows that the prediction error of robot configuration is lower than 7.5%.

Today,self-healing graphene-and MXene-based composites have attracted researchers due to the increase in durability as well as the cost reduction in long-time *** studies have focused on designing novel self-healing graphene-and MXenebased composites with enhanced sensitivity,stretchability,and flexibility as well as improved electrical conductivity,healing efficacy,mechanical properties,and energy conversion *** composites with self-healing properties can be employed in the field of wearable sensors,supercapacitors,anticorrosive coatings,electromagnetic interference shielding,electronic-skin,soft robotics,***,it appears that more explorations are still needed to achieve composites with excellent arbitrary shape adaptability,suitable adhesiveness,ideal durability,high stretchability,immediate self-healing responsibility,and outstanding electromagnetic ***,optimizing reaction/synthesis conditions and finding suitable strategies for functionalization/modification are crucial aspects that should be comprehensively *** and graphene exhibited superior electrochemical properties with abundant surface terminations and great surface area,which are important to evolve biomedical and sensing ***,flexibility and stretchability are important criteria that need to be improved for their future ***,the most recent advancements pertaining to the applications and properties of self-healing graphene-and MXene-based composites are deliberated,focusing on crucial challenges and future perspectives.
