Amine functionalization on thermal and mechanical behaviors of graphite nanofibers-loaded epoxy composites

With the growing demand for faster and more powerful computing,effective heat dissipation is essential to ensure the longevity,reliability,and high performance of electronic *** the field of modern electronic packaging materials,there is a great need for graphitic material-loaded polymeric composites(GPCs)with excellent thermal ***,the enhancement efficiency of GPCs is hindered by the agglomeration of fillers and the interfacial thermal resistance caused by the lack of continuous thermally conductive pathways between the filler and *** the interfaces between filler and matrix is of great importance in optimizing the performances of ***,we fabricated graphite nanofibers(GNF)-loaded nanocomposites using acid-functionalized GNF(AGNF)and acidtetraethylenepentamine-functionalized(TGNF)as a filler and epoxy resin as a matrix with different GNF loading contents to explore the interfacial properties of the *** optimal GNF loading for AGNF was 0.5 wt.%,while the TGNF showed 0.75 wt.%.The highest thermal conductivity(0.51 W m^(−1) K^(−1))and fracture toughness(25.8 MPa m^(1/2))values were found in the TGNF-loaded nanocomposites with a fraction of 0.75 wt.%,representing enhancements of∼145%and∼400%,respectively,compared to those of neat *** experimental data presented herein demonstrate that the interfacial properties play a significant role in enhancing the thermal and mechanical performances of the *** present approach is expected to serve as a valuable tool in the design of conductive polymeric nanocomposites for further practical applications,such as thermal interface materials and packaging of high-power electric devices.

Effect of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis on inflammatory responses in LPS-stimulated BV-2 microglia

AIM: To investigate the anti-inflammatory activities of the semen extract of Cuscuta chinensis Lam.(Cuscutae Semen; CS) on the production of inflammatory mediators, nitric oxide(NO), prostaglandin 2(PGE2), and proinflammatory cytokines in lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated BV-2 microglia. METHOD: BV-2 cells were treated with CS extract for 30 min, and then stimulated with LPS or without for 24 h. The levels of NO, PGE2 and proinflammatory cytokines were measured by Griess assay and ELISA. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS), and cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 mRNA and protein was determined by RT-PCR and Western blot, respectively. The phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2(ERK1/2), Jun N-terminal kinase(JNK), and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase(MAPK), and the nuclear expression of nuclear factor(NF)-κB p65 were investigated by Western blot analysis. RESULTS: CS extract significantly decreased the production of NO and PGE2 by suppressing the expression of iNOS and COX-2 in activated microglia. CS extract decreased the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6 by down-regulating their transcription levels. In addition, CS extract suppressed the phosphorylation of ERK1/2, JNK, and p38 MAPK, and the nuclear translocation of NF-κB p65 in activated microglia. CONCLUSION: These results indicate that CS extract is capable of suppressing the inflammatory response by microglia activation, suggesting that CS extract has potential in the treatment of brain inflammation.

Practical considerations of Si-based anodes for lithiumion battery applications

Using Si-based anodes in Li-ion batteries is one of the most feasible approaches to achieve high energy densities despite their disadvantages, such as low conductivity and massive volume expansion, which cause unstable solid electrolyte interphase layers with mechanical failure. The forefront in research and development to address the above challenges suggests the possibility of fully commercially viable cells using various structural and interfacial modifications. In particular, we present a discussion of each dimension of Si-based anodes in multiple controlled systems, including plain, hollow, porous, and uniquely engineered structures, which are further evaluated based on their anode performances, such as initial reversibility, capacity retention for extended cycles with its efficiency, degree of volume expansion tolerance, and rate capabilities, by several practical standards in half cells. With these practical considerations, multi-dimensional structures with uniform size distributions （micrometers, on average） are strongly desired to satisfy the rigorous requirements for widespread applications. Furthermore, we closely examined several full cells composed of Si-based multicomponent anodes coupled with suitable cathodes based on practical standards to propose future research directions for Si-based anodes to keep pace with the rapidly changing market demands for diverse energy storage systems.

CT scan is regarded as the imaging modality of choice in patients with pancreaticobiliary ductal abnormalities. However, the axial orientation of the CT images provides only limited anatomical view of pancreaticobiliary ductal abnormalities. The technological advances of multi-de-tector row CT and three-dimensional image processing in workstations allows rapid image acquisition and a short postprocessing time. In particular, multiplanar reforma-tions (MPR) and minimum intensity projections (MinIP) offer rapid and accurate images of the anatomy and ab-normalities of the pancreaticobiliary tree. Moreover, MPR and MinIP help determine the relationship between the pancreaticobiliary ductal anatomy and the surrounding structures. This pictorial review illustrates the wide spec-trum of images obtained by the MPR and MinIP of the anomalies and disorders of the pancreaticobiliary tree.

Integrated Design of D.D.I., Filament Winding and Curing Processes for Manufacturing the High Pressure Vessel(Type Ⅱ)

As energy crisis and environment pollution all around the world threaten the widespread use of fossil fuels,compressed natural gas(CNG)vehicles are explored as an alternative to the conventional gasoline powered *** of the limited space available for the car,the composite pressure vessel(TypeⅡ)has been applied to the CNG vehicles to reach large capacity and weight lightening *** pressure vessel(TypeⅡ)is composed of a composite layer and a metal *** metal liner is formed by the deep drawing and ironing(D.D.I.)process,which is a complex process of deep drawing and *** cylinder part is reinforced by composite layer wrapped through the filament winding process and is bonded to the liner by the curing *** this study,an integrated design method was presented by establishing the techniques for FE analysis of entire processes(D.D.I.,filament winding and curing processes)to manufacture the CNG composite pressure vessel(TypeⅡ).Dimensions of the dies and the punches of the 1 st(cup drawing),2 nd(redrawing-ironing 1-ironing 2)and 3 rd(redrawing-ironing)stages were calculated theoretically,and shape of tractrix die to be satisfied with the minimum forming load was suggested for life improvement and manufacturing costs in the *** of the composite material was determined in the filament winding process,finally,conditions of the curing process(number of heating stage,curing temperature,heating rate and time)were proposed to reinforce adhesive strength between the composite layers.

Detection of the Pine Wilt Disease Tree Candidates for Drone Remote Sensing Using Artificial Intelligence Techniques

Pine wilt disease(PWD)has recently caused substantial pine tree losses in Republic of *** is considered a severe problem due to the importance of pine trees to Korean people,so this problem must be handled ***,we examined the history of PWD and found that it had already spread to some regions of Republic of Korea;these became our study *** detection of PWD is *** used drone remote sensing techniques to detect trees with similar symptoms to trees infected with *** remote sensing was employed because it yields high-quality images and can easily reach the locations of pine *** differentiate healthy pine trees from those with PWD,we produced a land cover(LC)map from drone images collected from the villages of Anbi and Wonchang by classifying them using two classifier methods,i.e.,artificial neural network(ANN)and support vector machine(SVM).Furthermore,compared the accuracy of two types of Global Positioning System(GPS)data,collected using drone and hand-held devices,for identifying the locations of trees with *** then divided the drone images into six LC classes for each study area and found that the SVM was more accurate than the ANN at classifying trees with *** Anbi,the SVM had an overall accuracy of 94.13%,which is 6.7%higher than the overall accuracy of the ANN,which was 87.43%.We obtained similar results in Wonchang,for which the accuracy of the SVM and ANN was 86.59%and 79.33%,*** terms of the GPS data,we used two type of hand-held GPS *** device 1 is corrected by referring to the benchmarks sited on both locations,while the GPS device 2 is uncorrected device which used the default setting of the GPS *** data collected from hand-held GPS device 1 was better than those collected using hand-held GPS device 2 in ***,in Anbi,we obtained better results from GPS device 2 than from GPS device *** Anbi,the error in the data from GPS device 1 was 7.08 m,while that of the GPS

Quantitative analysis of uranium in electrorecovery salt of pyroprocessing using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Uranium measurements using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy in lithium chloride-potassium chloride salt of pyroprocessing

CT colonography in the diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer:Emphasis on pre-and post-surgical evaluation

This article addresses the use of computed tomographic colonography (CTC) for the diagnosis and management of colorectal cancer, focusing on presurgical evaluation of the colon proximal to an occlusive cancer and surveillance after cancer resection surgery. The key evidences accumulated in the literature and future work needed are summarized. CTC is a technically robust and the most practical method to evaluate the colon proximal to an occlusive cancer, which prevents colonoscopic examination past the occlusion, either before or after metallic stent placement. The high sensitivity of CTC for detecting cancers and advanced adenomas in the proximal colon can help prevent additional surgical procedures in patients showing negative results. However, the accuracy of CTC for distinguishing intramural cancers from adenomas is low, and the technique is limited in guiding management when a medium-sized lesion that do not show invasive features such as pericolic extension or nodal metastasis is found in the proximal colon. A maximal diameter ≥ 15 mm has been proposed as a criterion for surgical removal of proximal lesions. However, this needs to be verified in a larger cohort. In addition, the influence of presurgical CTC results on the current post-cancer resection colonic surveillance timeline remains to be determined. CTC can be readily added to the routine abdominopelvic CT in the form of contrast-enhanced CTC, which can serve as an effective stand-alone tool for post-cancer resection surveillance of both the colorectum and extracolonic organs. Although the accuracy of CTC has been demonstrated, its role in the current colonoscopy-based postoperative colonic surveillance protocols remains to be determined. Readers of CTC also need to be knowledgeable on the colonic lesions that are unique to the postoperative colon.

Enhanced charge separation by interchain hole delocalization in nonfullerene acceptor-based bulk heterojunction materials
