Efficacy and safety of newly developed cross-linked dextran gel injection for glans penis augmentation with a novel technique

There is no safe and effective standard method for glans penis augmentation. Furthermore, there has been scant research on glans penis augmentation due to a poor understanding of glans anatomy, technical difficulty, and a lack of suitable substances for augmentation. Cross-linked dextran gel is a newly developed filler for soft-tissue augmentation. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of using a novel technique to inject cross-linked dextran gel for glans penis augmentation during a 24-week follow-up study. This prospective, single-arm, multicenter study enrolled twenty healthy adult men who underwent glans penis augmentation between June and August 2013. Cross-linked dextran gel was injected into the glans penis using a simple and easy technique. The sizes of the glans penis and individual satisfaction were assessed. Any adverse event was also reported. A total of 18 individuals were analyzed; two of them were lost to follow-up. The mean procedure time and injected volume were about 30 rain and 6.6 ＋- 0.9 ml, respectively. The mean surface areas of the glans at baseline and 24 weeks were 20.0 _＋ 3.5 cm2 and 33.6 -＋ 5.4 cm2, respectively, representing a mean increase of 68.7% _＋ 14.0% （P 〈 0.001）. Sixteen individuals （88.9%） were satisfied with the outcomes, and none were dissatisfied. There were no serious adverse events during the study. Cross-linked dextran gel injection for glans penis augmentation was easy and showed a significant augmentative effect on the glans penis, good durability, and was well tolerated without serious adverse events. Therefore, cross-linked dextran gel injection may be an effective, new technique for glans penis augmentation.

Non-face-to-face psychological counseling systems rely on network technologies to anonymize information regard-ing client identity.however,these systems often face challenges concerning voice data leaks and the suboptimal communication of the client’s non-verbal expressions,such as facial cues,to the counselor.This study proposes a metaverse-based psychological counseling system designed to enhance client identity protection while ensuring efficient information delivery to counselors during non-face-to-face counseling.The proposed systemincorporates a voicemodulation function that instantlymodifies/masks the client’s voice to safeguard their identity.Additionally,it employs real-time client facial expression recognition using an ensemble of decision trees to mirror the client’s non-verbal expressions through their avatar in the metaverse environment.The system is adaptable for use on personal computers and smartphones,offering users the flexibility to access metaverse-based psychological counseling across diverse environments.The performance evaluation of the proposed system confirmed that the voice modulation and real-time facial expression replication consistently achieve an average speed of 48.32 frames per second or higher,even when tested on the least powerful smartphone configurations.Moreover,a total of 550 actual psychological counseling sessions were conducted,and the average satisfaction rating reached 4.46 on a 5-point scale.This indicates that clients experienced improved identity protection compared to conventional non-face-to-face metaverse counseling approaches.Additionally,the counselor successfully addressed the challenge of conveying non-verbal cues from clients who typically struggled with non-face-to-face psychological counseling.The proposed systemholds significant potential for applications in interactive discussions and educational activities in the metaverse.

背景:有研究报道剧烈运动能增加血液中骨髓祖细胞(如CD34^+细胞)数量,但尚未见研究报道抗阻运动后循环CD34^+细胞的变化。本研究旨在验证肘关节屈肌离心运动后血液中CD34^+细胞数量增加但恢复期减少,其数量变化幅度与肌肉损伤程度有关。方法:9名男性(28.0±6.6岁)用非惯用侧上肢完成10组(每组6次)最大自主肘关节屈肌离心运动,其中6名男性4周后用同一侧手臂完成同样的运动。在运动前、运动后、运动后2、24、48、72、96 h测量间接标记的肌肉损伤变化、白细胞分类计数(白细胞总数、中性粒细胞、淋巴细胞和单核细胞)以及血液中的CD34^+细胞数量。结果:离心运动后,最大自主等长收缩力矩显著缩小(p<0.05),延迟性肌肉酸痛增加,血浆肌酸激酶活性增加。然而,白细胞无显著性变化,CD34^+细胞发生明显变化。与第一次运动后相比,第二次运动后肌肉损伤标记物的变化显著减小(p<0.05)。但两次运动前后,白细胞和CD34^+细胞的变化无显著不同。结论:研究结果不能证实提出的假设,表明肘关节屈肌离心收缩诱导的肌肉损伤对CD34^+循环细胞没有影响。

The global incidence rates of in-hospital cardiac arrest(IHCA)range from1.2 to 9.0 per1,000 hospitalized patients,as per the National Cardiac Arrest Database.[1] While IHCAs tend to exhibit superior 30-day survival rates relative to out-of-hospital cardiac arrests (OHCA) due to situational advantages,such as immediate access to medical personnel and treatments.

Most microfluidic separation techniques rely largely on object size as a separation marker.The ability to separate micro-objects based on their shape is crucial in various biomedical and chemical assays.Here,we develop an ondemand,label-free acoustofluidic method to separate prolate ellipsoids from spherical microparticles based on traveling surface acoustic wave-induced acoustic radiation force and torque.The freely rotating non-spherical microobjects were aligned under the progressive acoustic field by the counterrotating radiation torque,and the major axis of the prolate ellipsoids was parallel to the progressive wave propagation.The specific alignment of the ellipsoidal particles resulted in a reduction in the cross-sectional area perpendicular to the wave propagation.As a consequence,the acoustic backscattering decreased,resulting in a decreased magnitude of the radiation force.Through the variation in radiation force,which depended on the micro-object morphology enabled the acoustofluidic shape-based separation.We conducted numerical simulations for the wave scattering of spherical and prolate objects to elucidate the working mechanism underlying the proposed method.A series of experiments with polystyrene microspheres,prolate ellipsoids,and peanut-shaped microparticles were performed for validation.Through quantitative analysis of the separation efficiency,we confirmed the high purity and high recovery rate of the proposed acoustofluidic shapebased separation of micro-objects.As a bioparticle,we utilize Thalassiosira eccentrica to perform shape-based separation,as the species has a variety of potential applications in drug delivery,biosensing,nanofabrication,bioencapsulation and immunoisolation.

Aim:This animal study aims to examine the efficacy and safety of poly-D,L-lactic acid(PDLLA)microspheres as subdermal fillers.Methods:Thirty 2-week-old male Sprague Dawley rats were used as test animals,and 0.5 mL filler solutions were injected into the subdermal tissues on their backs.Groups of five rats were randomly selected and sacrificed for examination on the 2nd,4th,8th,12th,16th,and 20th weeks after injection.Clinical and histological examinations were performed via the hematoxyline-eosin and immunohistochemical(IHC)staining of injected sites after collecting the injected masses.The body weights of the rats were measured,and the presence of filler substance in other organs was determined.Results:Injected volumes were stable from the 2nd to the 20th week after injection,and no abnormalities were observed around the injection sites.The injected substance did not migrate to the surrounding tissues.In IHC staining experiments,myofibroblasts were observed from the 2nd week,and collagen was detected from the 4th week.Myofibroblast was observed in the spaces between and inside the microspheres in the 8th week after injection,whereas type I collagen was found between and inside the microspheres at 8th and 12th weeks,respectively.Conclusion:The animal experiments confirm the efficacy and safety of injectable PDLLA as a subdermal filler.

Composite solid electrolytes(CSEs)have emerged as promising candidates for safe and high-energy–density solid-state lithium metal batteries(SSLMBs).however,concurrently achieving exceptional ionic conductivity and interface compatibility between the electrolyte and electrode presents a significant challenge in the development of high-performance CSEs for SSLMBs.To overcome these challenges,we present a method involving the in-situ polymerization of a monomer within a self-supported porous Li_(6.4)La_(3)Zr_(1.4)Ta_(0.6)O_(12)(LLZT)to produce the CSE.The synergy of the continuous conductive LLZT network,well-organized polymer,and their interface can enhance the ionic conductivity of the CSE at room temperature.Furthermore,the in-situ polymerization process can also con-struct the integration and compatibility of the solid electrolyte–solid electrode interface.The synthesized CSE exhibited a high ionic conductivity of 1.117 mS cm^(-1),a significant lithium transference number of 0.627,and exhibited electrochemical stability up to 5.06 V vs.Li/Li+at 30℃.Moreover,the Li|CSE|LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2) cell delivered a discharge capacity of 105.1 mAh g^(-1) after 400 cycles at 0.5 C and 30℃,corresponding to a capacity retention of 61%.This methodology could be extended to a variety of ceramic,polymer electrolytes,or battery systems,thereby offering a viable strategy to improve the electrochemical properties of CSEs for high-energy–density SSLMBs.

The oxidation characteristics for Zircaloy-4 and Zirlo in the temperature range of 700-1200°C under steam supply condition were investigated by using a modified thermo-gravimetric analyzer.The specimens were oxidized for 3600 s at each temperature and then quenched in a furnace.The oxidation rate constants were measured from the weight gains to evaluate the oxidation behavior in Zircaloy-4 and Zirlo.The weight gain rates of Zirlo were lower than those of Zircaloy-4,leading to the low rate constants.The different oxidation behaviors between both cladding materials were considered to be due to the difference in their chemical compositions.

Composites were prepared,through hot pressing,using carbon materials with different pore size distributions as additives for commercial Bi_(0.5)Sb_(1.5)Te_(3) thermoelectric material(BST,p-type).Thermoelectric properties of the composites were measured in a temperature range of 298-473 K.Thermal conductivity of the composites,especially lattice thermal conductivity,was effectively decreased due to the mesoporous properties of the incorporated carbon additives.The electrical conductivity of the composites slightly decreased due to the electron scattering at the interface between the carbon material and the commercial BST matrix.The composite with 0.2 vol.%mesoporous carbon powder(36%mesoporosity)exhibited a figure of merit value approximately 10.7%higher than that of commercial BST without additives.This behavior resulted in 116%improved output power in the composite block-based single element compared with a bare BST thermoelectric block.The enhanced figure of merit was attributed to the effective reduction of lattice thermal conductivity by acoustic phonons scattering at the interface between the BST matrix and the mesoporous carbon as well as at the pore surfaces within the mesoporous carbon.By utilizing mesoporous carbon materials used in this study,the shortcomings and economic difficulties of the composite process with low dimensional carbon additives(carbon nanotubes,graphene,and nanodiamond)can be overcome for extensive practical applications.Mesoporous carbon powder with a tailored porosity distribution revealed the validity of bulk-type carbon additives to enhance the figure of merit of commercial thermoelectric materials.
