Radiologic evaluation of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a frequent cause of chronic liver diseases,ranging from simple steatosis to nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)-related liver *** liver biopsy is still the gold standard for the diagnosis of NAFLD,especially for the diagnosis of NASH,imaging methods have been increasingly accepted as noninvasive alternatives to liver *** is a well-established and costeffective imaging technique for the diagnosis of hepatic steatosis,especially for screening a large population at risk of *** has a reasonable accuracy in detecting moderate-to-severe hepatic steatosis although it is less accurate for detecting mild hepatic steatosis,operator-dependent,and rather *** tomography is not appropriate for general population assessment of hepatic steatosis given its inaccuracy in detecting mild hepatic steatosis and potential radiation ***,computed tomography may be effective in specific clinical situations,such as evaluation of donor candidates for hepatic *** resonance spectroscopy and magnetic resonance imaging are now regarded as the most accurate practical methods of measuring liver fat in clinical practice,especially for longitudinal followup of patients with *** elastography and magnetic resonance elastography are increasingly used to evaluate the degree of liver fibrosis in patients with NAFLD and to differentiate NASH from simple *** article will review current imaging methods used to evaluate hepatic steatosis,including the diagnostic accuracy,limitations,and practical applicability of each *** will also briefly describe the potential role of elastography techniques in the evaluation of patients with NAFLD.

Endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) is becoming a popular procedure for the diagnosis and treatment of superficial mucosal lesions,and has the advantage of en bloc resection which yields a higher complete resection and remission rate compared to endoscopic mucosal resection(EMR).however,the learning process of this advanced endoscopic procedure requires a lengthy training period and considerable experience to be proficient.A well framed training protocol which is safe,effective,easily reproducible and cost-effective is desirable to teach *** addition,the training course may need to be tailored around settings such as ethnicity,culture,workload,and disease *** Asian countries with a large volume of early gastric lesions which need endoscopic treatment,endoscopists would be able to learn ESD expanding their skills from EMR to ESD under the supervision of ***,in Western countries due to the low incidence of superficial gastric tumors,trials have utilized simulator models to improve *** Korea,the Korean Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy(KSGE) is playing an important role in training many gastroenterologists who have shown an interest in performing ESD by providing an annual live demonstration and a nationwide tutoring *** purpose of this article is to introduce our ESD tutoring experience,review the published papers related to this topic,and propose several suggestions for future directions in teaching and learning ESD.

Base pair distance analysis in single DNA molecule by direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy

Precise fluorescence imaging of single l-DNA molecules for base pair distance analysis requires a superresolution technique, as these distances are on the order of diffraction limit. Individual l-DNA molecules intercalated with the fluorescent dye YOYO-1 were investigated at subdiffraction spatial resolution by direct stochastic optical reconstruction microscopy（d STORM）. Various dye-to-DNA base pair ratios were imaged by photoswitching YOYO-1 between the fluorescent state and the dark state using two laser sources. The acquired images were reconstructed into a super-resolution image by applying Gaussian fitting to the centroid of the point spread function. By measuring the distances between localized fluorophores, the base pair distances in single DNA molecules for dye-to-DNA base pair ratios of 1：50,1：100, and 1：500 were calculated to be 17.1 0.8 nm, 34.3 2.2 nm, and 170.3 8.1 nm[17_TD$IF], respectively,which were in agreement with theoretical values. These results demonstrate that intercalating dye in a single DNA molecule can be photoswitched without the use of an activator fluorophore, and that super-localization precision at a spatial resolution of 17 nm was experimentally achieved.

The corticospinal tract （CST） is a major neural tract for mo- tor function in the human brain. In addition, CST is mainly concerned with execution of movement of the hand （Jang, 2014）. however, few studies are reported on the mecha- nism underlying CST recovery after traumatic brain injury （Seo and Jang, 2015）. In this study, we report on a case that showed recovery of an injured CST by traumatic axonal injury （TAI） at subcortical white matter, as detected on fol- low-up diffusion tensor tractography （DTT）.

A Comparison of GPS- and NWP-derived PW Data over the Korean Peninsula

Precipitable Water （PW） derived from Global Positioning System （GPS） measurements and numerical weather prediction （NWP） model analysis data were compared to further evaluate the effcacy of applying GPS-derived PW to the NWP model. The spatial and temporal variations of GPS-derived PW during a rainfall event were also examined. GPS-derived PW measurements show good agreement with the behavior of water vapor at a high spatial resolution during the analysis period. Temporal anomalies of GPS-derived PW moving along with the front are successfully detected by the GPS array. Large positive anomalies of GPS-derived PW are indicated immediately before a rainfall event, and the intensity of these positive anomalies do not seem to decrease significantly as the precipitation system passes. These results indicate that the Korean GPS network may have great potential as a PW sensor over the Korean Peninsula. In contrast with GPS-derived PW, NWP-derived PW shows negative biases. These biases appear to stem mainly from the differences between modeled and actual GPS site elevations, as GPS sites were generally located at elevations lower than those employed by the NWP model. however, there still exists a discernable dry bias after a PW correction is applied to NWP-derived PW. GPS-derived PW better reflects the spatial and temporal moisture variations of precipitation systems, as compared to NWP-derived PW. These results provide entirely new information for improving the regional NWP system, since GPS-derived PW produced with data from the Korean GPS network may be incorporated into the NWP model to improve rainfall forecasts.

Post-translational modifications （PTMs） of transcription factors play a crucial role in regulating metabolic homeostasis. These modifications include phosphory- lation, methylation, acetylation, ubiqulUnation, SUMOy- lation, and O-GIcNAcylation. Recent studies have shed light on the importance of lysine acetylation at nonhis- tone proteins including transcription factors. Acetyla- tion of transcription factors affects subcellular distribution, DNA affinity, stability, transcriptional activity, and current investigations are aiming to further expand our understanding of the role of lysine acetyla- tion of transcription factors. In this review, we summarize recent studies that provide new insights into the role of protein lysine-acetylation in the transcriptional regulation of metabolic homeostasis.

High-temperature Oxidation Behavior of Zircaloy-4 and Zirlo in Steam Ambient

The oxidation characteristics for Zircaloy-4 and Zirlo in the temperature range of 700-1200°C under steam supply condition were investigated by using a modified thermo-gravimetric *** specimens were oxidized for 3600 s at each temperature and then quenched in a *** oxidation rate constants were measured from the weight gains to evaluate the oxidation behavior in Zircaloy-4 and *** weight gain rates of Zirlo were lower than those of Zircaloy-4,leading to the low rate *** different oxidation behaviors between both cladding materials were considered to be due to the difference in their chemical compositions.

Study on SCR De NO_x mechanism through in situ electrical conductivity measurements on V_2O_5-WO_3/TiO_2 catalysts

V2O5-WO3/TiO2 catalysts were prepared by impregnation method and in situ electrical conductivity measurements were carried out to investigate the reaction mechanism for ammonia SCR (selective catalytic reduction) of NOx. The electrical conductivity change with ammonia supply and the increase of electrical conductivity were mainly caused by reduction of the labile surface oxygen. The electrical conductivity change of catalysts shows close relationship with the conversion rate of NOx. Variation of conversion rate in atmosphere without gaseous oxygen also supports that the labile lattice oxygen is indispensable in the initial stage of the de NOx reaction. These results suggest that the liable lattice oxygen acts decisive role in the de NOx mechanism. They also support that De NOx reaction occurs through the Eley-Rideal type mechanism. The amount of labile oxygen can be estimated from the measurement of electrical conductivity change for catalysts with ammonia supply.
