Do microRNA 96, 145 and 221 expressions really aid in Lhe prognosis of prostate carcinoma？

MicroRNAs （miRs） are small noncoding RNAs that have been reported to be premising diagnostic tools. We used quantitative real-time reverse transcription PCR （RT-qPCR） to analyze differentially expressed miRNAs in prostate tumor samples to determine its prognostic value. From 2007 to 2009, tumor tissues were obtained from 73 radical prostatectomy specimens. Differentially expressed miR-96, -145 and -221 were validated by TaqMan RT-qPCR using all 73 tissues. The prognostic value was assessed in terms of biochemical recurrence using Kaplan-Meier and Cox regression analyses. For our patient cohort, the mean age was 64.7 years （50-76 years） and the mean prostate-specific antigen （PSA） was 7.5 ng m1-1. During the follow-up period （mean, 19.4 months）, 14 of 73 （19.2%） patients developed biochemical recurrence. Expression of miR-96, -145 and -221 correlated strongly with each other, but there were no correlations between miRNA expression and clinicopathologic parameters. Kaplan-Meier survival curves using the log-rank test showed a decreased biochemical recurrence-free interval with pathologic stage （P〈O.O01）. In addition, patients with Gleason scores over 8, compared with those with a Gleason score of 6, showed a decreased biochemical recurrence-free interval in Kaplan-Meier analysis （P=O.O01）. however, expression of miR-96, -145 and -221 did not correlate with the biochemical recurrence interval in Kaplan-Meier survival curves or by multivariate analysis using the Cox proportional hazard regression model, either. In conclusion, we did not observe a significant correlation between the expression of miR-96, -145 and -221 and clinicopathologic parameters. To utilize miRNA as a diagnostic tool in clinical practice, more research is needed to understand miRNA mechanisms, identify miRNA targets, and further characterize miRNA function.

The difference between visual and instrumental analyses of a shade selection on natural teeth was investigated. With visual analysis, five prosthodontist examined the middle third of the unrestored maxillary right central incisor of a patient using VITAPEN classical and Vita Toothguide 3D-MASTER tooth shade guide. In instrumental analysis, one prosthodontist examined the same teeth using a spectrophotometer （ShadepilotTM, Degudent, hanau-Wolfgang, Germany, software 2.40）. Overall, instrumental analysis is more accurate and reproducible than a visual assessment. however, the difference is clinically acceptable.

Objectives To evaluate the age-related one-year major adverse cardiocerebrovascular events （MACCE） after percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI） in acute myocardial infarction （AMI）. We analyzed the association between age and one-year MACCE after AMI. Methods A total of 13,104 AMI patients from Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry-National Institue of Health （KAMIR-NIH） between November 2011 and December 2015 were classified into four groups according to age （Group I, 〈 60 years, n = 4199; Group II, 60-70 years, n = 2577; Group III; 70-80 years, n = 2774; Group IV, ≥ 80 years, n = 1018）. Patients were analyzed for one-year composite of MACCE （cardiac death, myocardial infarction, target vessel revascularization, cerebrovascular events） after AMI. Results The one-year MACCE in AMI were 3.5% （Group I）, 6.3% （Group II）, 9.6% （Group III） and 17.6% （Group IV）. After adjustment for confounding para- meters, the analysis results showed that patients with AMI had incremental risk of one-year MACCE [Group II, adjusted hazard ratios （aHR） = 1.224, 95% CI： 0.965-1.525, P = 0.096; Group III, aHR = 1.316, 95% CI： 1.037-1.671, P= 0.024; Group IV, aHR = 1.975, 95% CI： 1.500-62.601, P〈 0.001） compared to Group I. Especially, cardiac death in the composite of primary end point played a major role in this effect （Group II, aHR = 1.335, 95% CI： 0.941-1.895, P= 0.106; Group III, aHR = 1.575, 95% CI： 1.122-2.210, P= 0.009; Group IV, aHR = 2.803, 95% CI： 1.937-4.054, P 〈 0.001）. Conclusions Despite advanced techniques and medications for PCI in AMI, age still exerts a powerful influence in clinical outcomes. Careful approaches, even in the modem era of developed cardiology are needed for aged-population in AMI intervention.

Removal of primary iron rich phase from aluminum-silicon melt by centrifugal separation

Recycling is a major consideration in continued aluminum use due to the enormous demand for high quality products. Some impurity elements gradually accumulate through the repetitive reuse of aluminum alloy scrap. Of them, the iron content should be suppressed under the allowed limit. In the present research, a novel separation method was introduced to remove primary iron-rich intermetallic compounds by centrifugation during solidification of AI-Si-Fe alloys. This method does not use the density difference between two phases as in other centrifugal methods, but uses the order of solidification in AI-Si-Fe alloys, because iron promotes the formation of intermetallic compounds with other alloying elements as a primary phase. Two AI-Si-Fe alloys which have different iron contents were chosen as the starting materials. The iron-rich phase could be efficiently removed by centrifuging under a centrifugal force of 40 g. Coarse intermetallic compounds were found in the sample inside the crucible, while rather fine intermetallic compounds were found in the sample outside the crucible. Primary intermetallic compounds were linked to each other via aluminum-rich matrix, and formed like a network. The highest iron removal fraction is 67% and the lowest one is 7% for AI-12Si-1.7Fe alloy. And they are 82% and 18% for AI-12Si-3.4Fe alloy, respectively.

Psychological predictors of bipolarity in panic disorder

Effect of Lonicerae Flos extracts on reflux esophagitis with antioxidant activity

AIM： To observe the effects of traditional antiinflammatory medicine Lonicerae FIos （LF） on rat reflux esophagitis （RE） induced by pylorus and forestomach ligation compared with the well-known proton antioxidant, α-tocopherol. METhoDS： Rats were pretreated with three different dosages of LF （500, 250 and 125 mg/kg） orally, once a day for 14 d before pylorus and forestomach ligation. Nine hours after pylorus and forestomach ligation, changes to the stomach and esophagus lesion areas, gastric volumes, acid and pepsin outputs, antioxidant effects, esophageal lipid peroxidation, superoxide dismutase （SOD）, catalase （CAT）, malondialdehyde （MDA）, myeloperoxidase and glutathione （GSH） levels, and collagen contents （marker of flexibility） were observed on the esophageal and fundic histopathology. The results were compared with an α-tocopherol （once orally, 1 h before operation, 30 mg/kg） treated group in which the effects on RE were already ***： Pylorus and forestomach ligations caused marked increases of gross esophageal and gastric mucosa lesion areas, which corresponded with histopathological changes. In addition, increases of esophageal lipid peroxidation, decreases of SOD, CAT, and GSH-free radical scavengers, increases of collagen were observed. however, these pylorus and forestomach ligation induced RE were dose-dependently inhibited by treatment of 500, 250 and 125 mg/kg of LF extract, mediated by antioxidant effects. RE at 250 mg/kg showed similar effects α-tocopherol. CONCLUSION： The results suggest that antioxidant effects of LF could attenuate the severity of RE and prevent the esophageal mucosal damage, and validate its therapeutic use in esophageal reflux disease.

Multiple Reader Algorithm for Sports Timing Systems and Its Application at Low Frequency Bandwidth

In sports timing systems,P2P communication is used at low frequency bandwidths(under 135 KHz) between tags and readers in the RFID ***,in such cases,collisions tend to occur when a reader deals with multiple RFID tags *** overcome this issue,a sports timing system including a Multi Reader Controller(MRC)loaded with an advanced multiple reader algorithm and application was created and applied at large-scale citizens' marathon *** these cases,a large number of people pass over the installed urethane type's antenna mat continually during a short period of *** study verified the superiority of the improved algorithm and application through the on-thespot application of the multi reader algorithm and application program,which allows us to smoothly measure runners' times through multiaccess reading for rapid collision avoidance.

Mitochondria-targeting self-assembled nanoparticles derived from triphenylphosphonium-conjugated cyanostilbene enable site-specific imaging and anticancer drug delivery

Subcellular organelle-specific nanoparticles for simultaneous tumor targeting, imaging, and drug delivery are of enormous interest in cancer therapy. Herein, we report a selective mitochondria-targeting probe 1, which was synthesized by incorporating a triphenyl phosphine with a cyanostilbene and a long alkyl chain moiety. Probe 1 was found to display fluorescence via aggregation-induced emission （AIE）. The low molecular-weight cyanostilbene-based probe 1, with and without an anticancer drug, formed a narrow homogeneous nanorod with ca. 110 nm of length or nanopartides with ca. 20 nm diameter in aqueous media. The self-assembled cyanostilbene nanoparticles （N1） selectively accumulated in the mitochondria of cancer cells and emitted fluorescence. N1 was also able to deliver an anticancer drug, doxorubicin （DOX）, to the mitochondria with high efficiency. More importantl~ N1 exhibited highly selective cytotoxicity for cancer cells over normal cells. The great potential applications of this self-assembled nanoparticle to biological systems result from its ability to aggregate in the mitochondria. This aggregation led to a significant increase in the generation of intraceUular reactive oxygen species and to a decrease in the mitochondrial membrane potential in cancer cells. Furthermore, tumor tissue uptake experiments in mice proposed that the self-assembled N1 had the ability to internalize and deliver the anticancer drug into tumor tissues effectively. Moreover, both N1 and Nl-encapsulated doxorubicin （N1-DOX） effectively suppressed tumor growth in a xenograft model in vivo. Taken together, our findings indicate that applications of N1 as a mitochondrial targeting probe, drug delivery platform, and chemotherapeutic agent provide a unique strategy for potential image-guided therapy as well as a site-specific delivery system to cancer cells.

Carcinoma of the middle bile duct:Is bile duct segmental resection appropriate?

AIM:To compare survival between bile duct segmental resection(BDSR)and pancreaticoduodenectomy(PD) for treating distal bile duct cancers. METhoDS:Retrospective analysis was conducted for 45 patients in a BDSR group and for 149 patients in a PD group. RESULTS:The T-stage(Phow any significant difference in survival when this was adjusted for the TNM *** 3-and 5-year survival rates were: stageⅠa[BDSR(100.0%and 100.0%)vs PD(76.9% and 68.4%)(P=0.226)];stageⅠb[BDSR(55.8% and 32.6%)vs PD(59.3%and 59.3%)(P=0.942)]; stageⅡb[BDSR(19.2%and 19.2%)vs PD(31.9%and 14.2%)(P=0.669)]. CONCLUSION:BDSR can be justified as an alternative radical operation for patients with middle bile duct inselected patients with no adjacent organ invasion and resection margin is negative.

Manufacture of μ-PIM gear mold by electroforming of Fe-Ni and Fe-Ni W alloys

The micro gear mold for powder injection molding was made by electroforming process of Fe-Ni and Fe-Ni-W alloys using UV-lithography process. Kinetics and activation energies in electroplating of both alloys were investigated to determine the best process conditions. Fe content within electrodeposited Fe-Ni alloys increased with the increase of rotating disk speed and the decrease of temperature and it is considered from the calculated activation energy of iron content that the rate determining step is controlled by mass transfer. Iron content in Fe-Ni electrodeposit varied from 58.33% to 70.45% by increasing current density from 2 to 6 A/drn2. Also, iron content in Fe-Ni-W electrodeposit increased from 59.32% to 70.15%, nickel content decreased from 27.86% to 17.07% and the content of tungsten was almost consistent in the range of 12.78%-12.82% although the current density increases from 1.5 to 5 A/dm^2. For the electroforming of micro gear mold, SU-8 mandrel with 550 μm in diameter and 400 μm in height was prepared by UV-lithography processing. Subsequently, Fe-36Ni and Fe-20Ni-13W alloys micro gear molds were electroformed successfully. Surface hardness values of the electroformed micro molds were measured to be HV490 and HV645, respectively.
