Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis（NASH） is one of the most common liver diseases and a major cause of liver fibrosis worldwide.r-Aminobutyric acid（GABA） is one of the most abundant inhibitory neurotransmitters in the central nervous ***,it has been reported that GABAergic signaling pathways are found in various non-neuronal tissues including the immune system and play a functional *** the present study,we investigated whether administration of GABA has effects on NASH through its immunomodulatory *** test this hypothesis,C57BL/6 mice were fed a methionine-choline-deficient（MCD） diet for 8 *** four weeks into MCD feeding,mice were provided with plain water（control） or water containing 2 mg/mL of GABA for the subsequent 4 *** this MCD diet-induced NASH model,we found that mice receiving GABA showed more severe steatohepatitis and liver fibrosis than control *** increased liver damage was confirmed by higher levels of serum alanine transaminase（ALT） and aspartate aminotransferase（AST） compared to the control *** accordance with increased liver steatohepatitis,NASH-related and inflammatory gene expression（collagen al,tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1,TNF-α） in the liver was markedly increased in GABA-treated ***,GABA directly enhanced production of inflammatory cytokines including IL-6 and TNF-α in LPS activated RAW macrophage cells and increased TIB-73 hepatocyte *** effects were abolished when GABA was treated with bicuculline,a competitive antagonist of GABA *** results suggest that oral administration of GABA may be involved in changes of the liver immune milieu and conferred detrimental effects on NASH progression.

We aimed to evaluate the current nationwide trend,efficacy,safety,and quality of life(QoL)profiles of hormone treatment in real-world practice settings for prostate cancer(PCa)patients in Korea.A total of 292 men with any biopsy-proven PCa(TanyNanyMany)from 12 institutions in Korea were included in this multi-institutional,observational study of prospectively collected *** luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone(LHRH)agonists were allowed to be investigational *** was defined as(1)the rate of castration(serum testosterone≤50 ng dl^-1)at 4-week visit and(2)breakthrough(serum testosterone>50 ng dl^-1 after castration).Safety assessments included routine examinations for potential adverse events,laboratory tests,blood pressure,body weight,and bone min era I density(BMD,at baseli ne and at the last follow-up visit).QoL was assessed using the Expa nded Prostate Cancer Index Composite-26(EPIC-26).The most comm on initial therapeutic regimen was LHRH agonist with an ti-androge n(78.0%),and the most commonly used LHRH agonist for combination and mono therapy was leuprolide(64.0%for combi natio n and 58.0%for monotherapy).The castration and breakthrough rates were 78.4%and 6.6%,*** laboratory results related to dyslipidemia worsened after 4 weeks of hormone *** addition,the mean BMD T-score was significantly lower at the last follow-up(mean:-1.950)compared to baseline(mean:-0.195).The mean total EPIC-26 score decreased from 84.8(standard deviation[s.d.]:12.2)to 78.3(s.d.:8.1),with significant deterioration only in the urinary domain(mean:23.5 at baseli ne and 21.9 at the 4-week visit).These findi ngs dem on strate the n ationwide trend of current practice setti ngs in hormone treatment for PCa in Korea.

Food intolerance and skin prick test in treated and untreated irritable bowel syndrome

AIM： To correlate the clinical features of treated and untreated patients with irritable bowel syndrome （IBS） to the results of skin prick test （SPT） for food and inhalant allergens. METHODS： We recruited 105 subjects to form three different target groups： treated group （n=44） undergoing treatment for IBS, untreated group （n =31） meeting the Rome Ⅱ criteria without treatment for IBS, control group （n = 30） with no IBS symptoms. RESULTS： SPT results were different among the three groups in which SPT was positive in 17 （38.6%） treated patients, in 5 （16.1%） untreated patients and in 1 （3.3%） control （P〈0.01）. The number of positive SPTs was greater in the IBS group than in the control group （P〈 0.001）. The number of positive food SPTs was higher in the treated IBS group than in the untreated IBS group （P= 0.03）. CONCLUSION： Positive food SPT is higher in IBS patients than in controls.

ROLE OF FUNGAL LACCASE AND LOW MOLECULAR MEDIATORS ON DECOLOURIZATION OF AROMATIC DYES IN PAPER MILL EFFLUENTS

Several wood rotting fungi decolourized Remazol brilliant blue R (RBBR) and carminic acid (CA). Parallel activity of laccase in these fungi was studied. The addition of acetovanillone (AV) or acetosyringone (AS) intensified these processes: decolourization was more extensive than in the experiment omitting these compounds. At the presence of AS the decourization was more extensive than AV. However the level of decolorizing was relatively low in comparison to laccase activity on syringaldazine. The highly purified constitutive form of Cerrena unicolor and inducible form of Trametes versicolor laccases also destained both dyes. Anyway the addition of AV and AS improved the efficiency of dyes decolourization by wood rotting fungi and fungal laccase. Nitrogen starvation induced the laccase and decoloration activity in both organisms, irrespective of nitrogen availability. This fact indicates laccase not solely responsible for discoloration, and probably discoloration of dyes involves more than one mechanism.

Electronic nose(e-nose)technology for selectively identifying a target gas through chemoresistive sensors has gained much attention for various applications,such as smart factory and personal health *** overcome the crossreactivity problem of chemoresistive sensors to various gas species,herein,we propose a novel sensing strategy based on a single micro-LED(μLED)-embedded photoactivated(μLP)gas sensor,utilizing the time-variant illumination for identifying the species and concentrations of various target gases.A fast-changing pseudorandom voltage input is applied to the μLED to generate forced transient sensor responses.A deep neural network is employed to analyze the obtained complex transient signals for gas detection and concentration *** proposed sensor system achieves high classification(~96.99%)and quantification(mean absolute percentage error~31.99%)accuracies for various toxic gases(methanol,ethanol,acetone,and nitrogen dioxide)with a single gas sensor consuming 0.53 *** proposed method may significantly improve the efficiency of e-nose technology in terms of cost,space,and power consumption.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of sodium hyaluronate solution(SH) in endoscopic submucosal dissection(ESD) of gastric ***:A prospective multicenter randomized,double blind,controlled trial was designed and utilized in this study.A total of 76 patients with 5-20 mm sized gastric neoplasms were enrolled at three academic hospitals in South Korea from June 2011 to October *** were randomly assigned to the 0.4% sodium hyaluronate or control *** lesions underwent endoscopic *** was performed with 0.4%SH and normal saline(NS) solution for submucosal *** was assessed using en bloc resection and the number of additional *** evaluation variables were the volume of injection material,steepness of mucosal elevation,bleeding rate,procedural time and operator ***,the safety was assessed by analyzing adverse events during the ***:The usefulness rate in the 0.4%SH group and the controlled group had statistically significant difference under intention to treat(ITT) analysis(90.91% vs 61.11% P = 0.0041).Under per protocol(PP),the usefulness rate is statistically significant different(93.10% vs 61.76%,P = 0.0036).The difference in volume of the solution injected between 0.4%SH group and the controlled group and NS group was also statistically significant under intention to treat and per protocol analysis(ITT:0.03 ± 0.02 mL vs 0.06 ± 0.03 mL,P = 0.0003,PP:0.03 ± 0.02 mL vs 0.06 ± 0.03 mL,P = 0.0004).Satisfaction above the grade good was significantly higher in the SH group under intention to treat and per protocol analysis(ITT:90.91% vs 61.11%,P = 0.0041,PP = 93.11% vs 61.77%,P = 0.0022).Adverse events above grade 3 were not noticed in either *** adverse events were treated and were judged as not associated with the submucosal injection ***:0.4%SH solution is a safe and effective agent that doesn't cause any significant adverse events and is useful for submucos

BACKGROUND Hepatic artery obstruction is a critical consideration in graft outcomes after living donor liver *** report a case of diffuse arterial vasospasm that developed immediately after anastomosis and was managed with an intra-arterial infusion of lipo-prostaglandin E1(PGE1).CASE SUMMARY A 57-year-old male with hepatitis B virus-related liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma underwent ABO-incompatible living donor liver *** grafted hepatic artery was first anastomosed to the recipient’s right hepatic artery ***,the arterial pulse immediately *** a new anastomosis was performed using the right gastroepiploic artery,the patient’s arterial pulse rate remained *** attempted angiographic intervention immediately after the operation;it showed diffuse arterial vasospasms like‘beads on a string’.We attempted continuous infusion of lipo-PGE1 overnight via an intra-arterial *** next day,arterial flow improved without any spasms or *** patient had no additional arterial complications or related sequelae at the time of writing,1-year post-liver *** Angiographic evaluation is helpful in cases of repetitive arterial obstruction,and intra-arterial infusion of lipo-PGE1 may be effective in treating diffuse arterial spasms.
