Corner cube retroreflectors(CCRs)have applications in sensors,image processing,free space communication and wireless *** ability to construct low-loss wavelength filters embedded in CCRs can enable the development of wavelength multiplexing,tunable lasers and photonic integrated *** we created an~10-μm-thick holographic corner cube retroreflector(HCCR)array that acted as a color-selective wavelength filter and diffracted light at broad ***-resolved spectral measurements showed that the Bragg peak of the diffracted light from the HCCR array could be tuned from 460 to 545 nm by varying the incident *** HCCR array also exhibited a wavelength-selective tuning capability based on the rotation angle in the visible *** projected holographic images with the rotational property in the far *** utility of the HCCR was demonstrated as optical temperature and relative humidity sensors that produced a visible colorimetric response for rapid diagnostics.

Biomolecular analysis at the single-cell level is increasingly important in the study of cellular heterogeneity and its consequences,particularly in organismic development and complex diseases such as ***-cell molecular analyses have led to the identification of new cell types1 and the discovery of novel targets for diagnosis and *** these analyses are performed predominantly on dissociated single cells,emerging techniques seek understanding of cellular state,cellular function and cell–cell interactions within the native tissue environment by combining optical microscopy and single-cell molecular *** techniques include in situ multiplexed imaging of fluorescently labeled proteins and nucleotides,as well as low-throughput ex vivo methods in which specific cells are isolated for downstream molecular ***,these methods are limited in either the number and type of molecular species they can identify or the number of cells that can be ***-throughput methods are needed for comprehensive profiling of many cells(>1000)to detect rare cell types,discriminate relevant biomarkers from intrinsic population noise,and reduce the time and cost of *** established,highthroughput single-cell analyses are not directly applicable because they require tissue dissociation,leading to a loss of spatial *** current methods exist that can seamlessly connect spatial mapping to single-cell *** this Perspective,we review current methods for spatially resolved single-cell analysis and discuss the prospect of novel multiplexed imaging probes,called laser particles,which allow individual cells to be tagged in tissue and analyzed subsequently using high-throughput,comprehensive single-cell techniques.

The ability to track individual cells in space over time is crucial to analyzing heterogeneous cell ***,microlaser particles have emerged as unique optical probes for massively multiplexed single-cell ***,the microlaser far-field emission is inherently direction-dependent,which causes strong intensity fluctuations when the orientation of the particle varies randomly inside ***,we demonstrate a general solution based on the incorporation of nanoscale light scatterers into *** schemes are developed by introducing either boundary defects or a scattering layer into microdisk *** resulting laser output is omnidirectional,with the minimum-to-maximum ratio of the angle-dependent intensity improving from 0.007(-24 dB)to>0.23(-6dB).After transfer into live cells in vitro,the omnidirectional laser particles within moving cells could be tracked continuously with high signal-to-noise ratios for 2 h,while conventional microlasers exhibited frequent signal loss causing tracking failure.

Micro-and nanodisk lasers have emerged as promising optical sources and probes for on-chip and free-space ***,the randomness in disk diameter introduced by standard nanofabrication makes it challenging to obtain deterministic *** address this,we developed a photoelectrochemical(PEC)etching-based technique that enables us to precisely tune the lasing wavelength with subnanometer *** examined the PEC mechanism and compound semiconductor etching rate in diluted sulfuric acid *** this technique,we produced microlasers on a chip and isolated particles with distinct lasing *** precisely tuned disk lasers were then used to tag cells in *** results demonstrate that this scalable technique can be used to produce groups of lasers with precise emission wavelengths for various nanophotonic and biomedical applications.

BACKGROUND Capecitabine is used in combination with lapatinib as palliative treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-positive metastatic breast *** most frequently reported adverse events attributed to capecitabine include diarrhea,hyperbilirubinemia,and hand-foot syndrome(HFS).A number of cutaneous adverse events have been attributed to capecitabine,including Stevens-Johnson syndrome(SJS)as a rare and potentially life-threatening mucocutaneous *** report the first case involving concurrent SJS and HFS after capecitabine and lapatinib *** SUMMARY A 70-year-old woman with a history of breast cancer treatment visited our hospital for evaluation of painful skin *** weeks earlier,she had been prescribed capecitabine plus lapatinib as treatment for metastatic breast *** subsequently developed worsening erythema and bullae on her palms and soles,as well as reddish macules on her back and chest *** evaluation of the chest wall lesions revealed extensive eosinophilic epidermal necrosis and separation of the epidermis from the *** capecitabine plus lapatinib treatment was discontinued immediately and treatment was started using systemic *** treatment resolved most lesions,although the lesions on her palms and soles required Vaseline gauze dressings,which resulted in ***,we determined that the patient had concurrent SJS and *** the dermatological problems resolved,the patient ultimately died because of multiple organ *** Oral capecitabine treatment carries a risk of both HFS and also life-threatening adverse cutaneous drug reactions,such as SJS.

Ni-based porous electrocatalysts have been widely used in the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in alkaline water electrolysis,and the catalysts are produced by selective leaching of Al from Ni-Al *** is well known that chemical leaching of Ni-Al intermetallic compound(IMC)generates a high surface area in Ni(OH)_(2).However,the Ni(OH)_(2) produced by leaching the Ni-Al intermetallic compound retards the hydrogen evolution reaction,which is attributed to its weak hydrogen adsorption *** this study,we controlled the chemical state of Ni using plasma vapor deposition(PVD)followed by heat treatment,selective Al leaching,and electrochemical reduction.X-ray diffraction(XRD),scanning microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM),and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS)were used to confirm the phase evolution of the electrocatalysts during *** reveal that the heat-treated Ni-Al alloy with a thick Ni2Al3surface layer underwent selective Al leaching and produced biphasic interfaces comprising Ni(OH)_(2) and NiAl IMCs at the edges of the grains in the outermost surface *** oxidation of the interfacing NiAl IMCs facilitated the partial reduction of Ni(OH)_(2) to Ni(OH)_(2)/Ni in the grains during electrochemical reduction,as confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS).An electrocatalyst containing partially reduced Ni(OH)_(2)/Ni exhibited an overpotential of 54 mV at 10 mA/cm^(2) in a half-cell measurement,and a cell voltage of 1.675 V at 0.4 A/cm2for single-cell operation.A combined experimental and theoretical study(density functional theory calculations)revealed that the superior HER activity was attributed to the presence of partially reduced metallic Ni with various defects and residual Al,which facilitated water adsorption,dissociation,and finally hydrogen evolution.

Usefulness of colonic tattooing using indocyanine green in patients with colorectal tumors

AIM To prove that tattooing using indocyanine green(ICG) is feasible in laparoscopic surgery for a colon *** From January 2012 to December 2016, all patients who underwent laparoscopic colonic surgery were retrospectively screened, and 1010 patients with colorectal neoplasms were included. Their lesions were tattooed with ICG the day before the operation. The tattooed group(TG) included 114 patients, and the non-tattooed group(NTG) was selected by propensity score matching of subjects based on age, sex, tumor staging, and operation method(n = 228). In total, 342 patients were enrolled. Between the groups, the changes in [Delta(Δ), preoperative-postoperative] the hemoglobin and albumin levels, operation time, hospital stay, oral ingestion period, transfusion, and perioperative complications were compared. RESULTS Preoperative TG had a shorter operation time(174.76 ± 51.6 min vs 192.63 ± 59.9 min, P < 0.01), hospital stay(9.55 ± 3.36 d vs 11.42 ± 8.23 d, P < 0.01), and postoperative oral ingestion period(1.58 ± 0.96 d vs 2.81 ± 1.90 d, P < 0.01). The Δ hemoglobin(0.78 ± 0.76 g/dL vs 2.2 ± 1.18 g/dL, P < 0.01) and Δ albumin(0.41 ± 0.44 g/dL vs 1.08 ± 0.39 g/dL, P < 0.01) levels were lower in the TG. On comparison of patients in the "N0" and "N1 or N2" groups, the N0 colon cancer group had a better operation time, length of hospital stay, oral ingestion period, Δ hemoglobin, and Δ albumin results than those of the N1 or N2 group. The operation methods affected the results, and laparoscopic anterior resection(LAR) showed similar results. However, for left and right hemicolectomy, both groups showed no difference in operation time or hospital *** Preoperative tattooing with ICG is useful for laparoscopic colectomy, especially in the N0 colon cancer group and LAR.

Current therapeutic approaches for volumetric muscle loss(VML)face challenges due to limited graft availability and insufficient *** overcome these limitations,tissue-engineered scaffolds have emerged as a promising *** this study,we developed aligned ternary nanofibrous matrices comprised of poly(lactide-co-ε-caprolactone)integrated with collagen and Ti_(3)C_(2)T_(x)MXene nanoparticles(NPs)(PCM matrices),and explored their myogenic potential for skeletal muscle tissue *** PCM matrices demonstrated favorable physicochemical properties,including structural uniformity,alignment,microporosity,and *** vitro assays revealed that the PCM matrices promoted cellular behaviors and myogenic differentiation of C2C12 ***,in vivo experiments demonstrated enhanced muscle remodeling and recovery in mice treated with PCM matrices following VML *** insights from next-generation sequencing revealed that MXene NPs facilitated protein and ion availability within PCM matrices,leading to elevated intracellular Ca^(2+)levels in myoblasts through the activation of inducible nitric oxide synthase(i NOS)and serum/glucocorticoid regulated kinase 1(SGK1),ultimately promoting myogenic differentiation via the m TOR-AKT ***,upregulated i NOS and increased NO–contributed to myoblast proliferation and fiber fusion,thereby facilitating overall myoblast *** findings underscore the potential of MXene NPs loaded within highly aligned matrices as therapeutic agents to promote skeletal muscle tissue recovery.
