liquid crystals are a vital component of modern photonics,and recent studies have demonstrated the exceptional sensing properties of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid ***,existing cholesteric liquid crystal-based sensors often rely on the naked eye perceptibility of structural color or the measurement of wavelength changes by spectrometric tools,which limits their practical ***,developing a platform that produces recognizable sensing signals is *** this study,we present a visual sensing platform based on geometric phase encoding of stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymers that generates real-time visual patterns,rather than frequency *** demonstrate this platform’s effectiveness,we used a humidity-responsive cholesteric liquid crystal polymer film encoded with a q-plate pattern,which revealed that humidity causes a shape change in the vortex beam reflected from the encoded cholesteric liquid crystal ***,we developed a prototype platform towards remote humidity monitoring benefiting from the high directionality and long-range transmission properties of laser beams carrying orbital angular *** approach provides a novel sensing platform for cholesteric liquid crystals-based sensors that offers promising practical *** ability to generate recognizable sensing signals through visual patterns offers a new level of practicality in the sensing field with stimuli-responsive cholesteric liquid *** platform might have significant implications for a broad readership and will be of interest to researchers working in the field of photonics and sensing technology.

To improve corrosion-resistance of shallow-buried concrete urban utility tunnels(UUTs),basalt fiber reinforced polymer(BFRP)bars are applied to reinforce *** the UUT must have excellent survival capability under accidental explosions,a shallow-buried BFRP bars reinforced UUT(BBRU)was designed and *** blast experiments were carried out on this *** responses,damage evolutions and failure styles of the BBRU under repetitive explosions were *** tunnel roof is the most vulnerable component and longitudinal cracks develop along the *** the scaled distance is larger than 1.10 m/kg1/3,no cracks are observed in the *** the BBRU is severely damaged,there are five cracks forming and developing along the *** roof is simplified as a clamped-supported one-way slab,proved by the observation that the maximum strain of the transverse bar is much larger than that of the longitudinal *** responses of the roof slab are predicted by dynamic Euler beam theory,which can consistently predict the roof displacement under large-scaleddistance *** with the UUT reinforced with steel bars,the BBRU has advantages in blast resistance with smaller deflections and more evenly-distributed cracks when the scaled distance is smaller than 1.260 m/kg1/3 and the steel bars enter plastic *** elastic defamation of the BFRP bars endows the UUT more excellent blast resistance under small-scaled-distance explosions.

We demonstrate the dynamic coloration of polymerized cholesteric liquid crystal(PCLC)networks templated by the“wash-out/refill”method in the presence of organic *** reflection colors were modulated by two key approaches,that is,the injection of mutually soluble organic fluids into a microfluidic channel and the diffusion of volatile organic compounds(VOCs).The reversible tuning of reflected colors with central wavelengths between~450 nm and~600 nm was achieved by alternative injection of nematic liquid crystal E7(n_(av)=1.64)and benzyl alcohol(n=1.54)using syringe *** fascinating iridescence with reflection centers from~620 nm to~410 nm was presented from the volatilization and diffusion of alcohol as a model ***,the flow velocity of fluid and the diffusion time were adjusted to explore the underlying mechanism for the dynamic coloration of cholesteric *** work is expected to extend the study of PCLCs as a dynamically tunable optofluidic reflector,visually readable sensor,or compact anticounterfeit label in response to organic compounds.

Detecting coupling pattern between elements in a complex system is a basic task in data-driven analysis. The trajectory for each specific element is a cooperative result of its intrinsic dynamic, its couplings with other elements, and the environment. It is subsequently composed of many components, only some of which take part in the couplings. In this paper we present a framework to detect the component correlation pattern. Firstly, the interested trajectories are decomposed into components by using decomposing methods such as the Fourier expansion and the Wavelet transformation. Secondly, the cross-correlations between the components are calculated, resulting into a component cross-correlation matrix(network).Finally, the dominant structure in the network is identified to characterize the coupling pattern in the system. Several deterministic dynamical models turn out to be characterized with rich structures such as the clustering of the components. The pattern of correlation between respiratory(RESP) and ECG signals is composed of five sub-clusters that are mainly formed by the components in ECG signal. Interestingly, only 7 components from RESP(scattered in four sub-clusters) take part in the realization of coupling between the two signals.

In China, liver transplantation is an important discipline in the field of organ transplantation. China liver Transplant Registry (CLTR) is a scientific project that has been set up to advance surgical techniques and procedures and to improve both short-and long-term post-transplant follow-up and outcome of the liver recipients. CLTR also serves as a robust data support platform for the National liver Transplant Quality Control Center in the quest to upscale its quality control protocols. The mission of CLTR is to register all liver transplantation activities in the mainland of China and to conduct scientific analyses of the collected data. The huge number of compiled cases and the scientific research conducted over the past decade based on this database drastically revolutionized the clinical practice in the country. All CLTR activities and projects will be a guarantee to foster progresses of liver transplantation in China in a more scientific way, to standardize the systematic care in the field of liver transplantation.

This study focuses on the electrical properties and microstructure of polypropylene(PP)-based blends used for cable insulation in nuclear power plants(NPPs).The PP-based blend,comprising isotactic PP and propylene-based elastomer(PBE)at concentrations ranging from 0 to 50 wt%,underwent a melt blending process and subsequent cobalt-60 gamma-ray irradiation with doses ranging from 0 to 250 *** conductivity,trap distribution,and alternating(AC)breakdown strength were chosen to assess the insulation *** results indicate that the addition of PBE significantly improves the electrical properties of PP under *** PP,the electrical conductivity increased with irradiation,whereas the trap depth and breakdown strength decreased ***,for the blend,these changes initially exhibit opposite *** the irradiation was increased to 250 kGy,the AC breakdown strength of the blend improved by more than 21%compared to that of *** physical and chemical structures of the samples were investigated to explore the improvement *** results offer insights into the design of new cable-insulation materials suitable for NPPs.

The method for batch continuous production of polymerized cholesteric liquid crystal(PCLC) microdisks based on centrifugal microfluidics was proposed. The prototype centrifugal microfluidic chip was fabricated by the wetetching technique with a series of ladder-like concentric ring channels whose depths decrease radially. Two types of dye-doped PCLC microdisks with different doping procedures were generated by this method, the tunable lasing properties were characterized, and corresponding potential applications in a micro-cavity laser and optical barcode were demonstrated. The method is also applicable to a broad range of other polymerized materials.

High-throughput genotyping tools can effectively promote molecular breeding in *** this study,genotyping by target sequencing(GBTS)system was utilized to develop a genome-wide liquid SNP chip for facilitating genetics and breeding in melon(Cucumis melo L.),a globally cultivated economically important horticultural *** on over eight million SNPs derived from 823 representative melon accessions,16K,8K,4K,2K,1K,500,250 and 125 informative SNPs were screened and evaluated for their polymorphisms,conservation of flanking sequences,and *** set of 2K SNPs was found to be optimal for representing the maximum diversity with the lowest number of SNPs,and it was selected to develop the liquid chip,named“Melon2K”.Using Melon2K,more than 1500 SNPs were detected across 17 samples of five melon cultivars,and the phylogenetic relationships were clearly *** the same cultivar,genetic differences were also assessed between different *** evaluated the performance of Melon2K in genetic background selection during the breeding process,obtaining the introgression lines of interested trait with more than 97%genetic background of elite variety by only two rounds of *** results suggest that Melon2K provides a cost-effective,efficient and reliable platform for genetic analysis and molecular breeding in melon.
