Near Optimal Approximations and Finite Memory Policies for POMPDs with Continuous Spaces Dedicated to Professor Peter E. Caines, on the occasion of his 80th birthday

The authors study an approximation method for partially observed Markov decision processes(POMDPs) with continuous spaces. Belief MDP reduction, which has been the standard approach to study POMDPs requires rigorous approximation methods for practical applications, due to the state space being lifted to the space of probability measures. Generalizing recent work, in this paper the authors present rigorous approximation methods via discretizing the observation space and constructing a fully observed finite MDP model using a finite length history of the discrete observations and control actions. The authors show that the resulting policy is near-optimal under some regularity assumptions on the channel, and under certain controlled filter stability requirements for the hidden state process. The authors also provide a Q learning algorithm that uses a finite memory of discretized information variables, and prove its convergence to the optimality equation of the finite fully observed MDP constructed using the approximation method.

Tribological and Electrochemical Corrosion Properties of CNT-Incorporated Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation(PEO)Coatings on AZ80 Magnesium Alloy

Plasma electrolytic oxidation(PEO)coatings were carried out in silicate-based electrolyte embedded with various amounts of carbon nanotube(CNT)additives(0,0.5,1,2 and 4 g/L)on AZ80 magnesium alloy ***,tribological and electrochemical corrosion properties of the coated specimens were *** results demonstrated that the increasing CNT additions into the electrolyte resulted in a gradual increase in the thickness of PEO-coating *** CNT addition to the electrolyte by 0.5 g/L resulted in a slight decrease in the roughness of PEO-coating above which it continually *** resistance of the PEO-coated specimens showed a gradual improvement with increasing CNT-incorporation within the *** electrochemical corrosion tests revealed that the best corrosion resistance was found after the CNT addition into the electrolyte by 0.5 g/L due to the better roughness values,more homogenous coating layers and less pore formation.

Active surveillance for prostate cancer： when to recommend delayed intervention

There are no agreed upon guidelines for placing patients on active surveillance （AS）. Therefore, there are no absolute criteria for taking patients offAS and when to recommend treatment. The criteria used to define progression are currently based on prostate specific antigen （PSA） kinetics, biopsy reclassification, and change in clinical stage. Multiple studies have evaluated predictors of progression such as PSA, PSA density （PSAD）, prostate volume, core positivity, and visible lesion on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging （mpMRI）. Furthermore, published nomograms designed to predict indolent prostate cancer do not perform well when used to predict progression. Newer biomarkers have also not performed well to predict progression. These findings highlight that clinical and pathologic variables are not enough to identify patients that will progress while on AS. In the future, with the use of imaging, biomarkers, and gene expression assays, we should be better equipped to diagnose/stage prostate cancer and to distinguish between insignificant and significant disease.

The relationship between gunshot-residue particle size and Boltzmann distribution

Gunshot-residue(GSR)particles usually form spherical structures,have special dimensions,and a composition that consists of burned and partially unburned matter with a 0.5–50-mm diameter(sometimes larger).The GSR particle-size distributions have been argued to be caused by the effects of equilibrium-surface distributions during formation and have not yet been correlated with a theoretical analysis or probability *** study proposes a model to explain the GSR particle-size distribution *** on the data,and,as predicted by our model,the number of GSR particles decreases proportionally to the inverse square of the GSR particle size as the particle size *** result occurs because of the abundance of microstructures that are encountered in the GSR particles.

Fault tolerant control based on neural network interval type-2 fuzzy sliding mode controller for octorotor UAV

In this paper, a robust controller for a six degrees of freedom （6 DOF） octorotor helicopter control is proposed in presence of actuator and sensor faults. Neural networks （NN）, interval type-2 fuzzy logic control （IT2FLC） approach and sliding mode control （SMC） technique are used to design a controller, named fault tolerant neural network interval type-2 fuzzy sliding mode controll,~r （FTNNIT2FSMC）, for each subsystem of the octorotor helicopter. The proposed control scheme allows avoiding difficult modeling, attenuating the chattering effect of the SMC, reducing the number of rules for the fuzzy controller, and guaranteeing the stability and the robustness of the system. The simulation results show that the FTNNIT2FSMC can greatly alleviate the chattering effect, tracking well in presence of actuator and sensor faults.

In this article, using generalized weighted mean and difference matrix of order m, we introduce the paranormed sequence space l（u, v, p; △（m））, which consist of the sequences whose generalized weighted △（m）-difference means are in the linear space l（p） defined by ***. Also, we determine the basis of this space and compute its α-, β- and γ-duals. Further, we give the characterization of the classes of matrix mappings from l（u, v, p, △（m）） to l∞, c, and co. Finally, we apply the Hausdorff measure of noncompacness to characterize some classes of compact operators given by matrices on the space lp（U, v, △（m））（1 ≤ p 〈 ∞）.

Toxicity, inheritance and biochemistry of clofentezine resistance in Tetranychus urticae

This study evaluates the toxicological and biochemical response of two-spotted spider mites to clofentezine selection pressure. The mortality rate of Tetranychus urticae in adult females depends on increased clofentezine concentration and clofentezine was found to be effective against females. The resistance rate of the CUM strain selected 12 times once per generation with clofentezine was increased from 1.28- to 105.27-fold. The interaction of some synergists with clofentezine was analyzed in the clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain. Synergists had no effect on clofentezine toxicity. The clofentezine-resistant CLOF 12 strain showed resistance against chlorpyrifos, abamectin, propargite, fenpyroximate and amitraz. The modes of inheritance of resistance to clofentezine were found to be incompletely dominant and not sex-linked. Esterase enzyme activity was detected both by gel electrophoresis and microplate reader methods, while glutathione S-transferase （GST） and monooxygenase （P450） activity were detected only by the microplate reader method. During the selection period the esterase, the GST and the P450 enzymes activities were raised from 7.69, 7.09 and 0.003 3 to 18.40, 13.11 and 0.003 7 milli-optical density/rain/rag proteins, respectively. An increase was observed in the band intensity of esterases and esterase enzymes may play a role in clofentezine resistance in T. urticae.
