Digital Identification of Ecosystem Structure in the FIrtIna Valley of the Kakar Mountains in the Rize City of Turkey

Identifying the structure of protected mountain ecosystems is an important task for understanding conservation sustainability. The study area, the Firtina Valley, located in the Rize City on the Eastern Blacksea Coast, is one of the biological hotspots and a National Park of Turkey. In order to identify the structure of mountain ecosystems, we generated a GIS database for the main environmental parameters of the study area, including elevation,slope and aspect layers for topographic structure, 10year mean values of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index(NDVI), data for vegetation structure, annual mean temperature and precipitation layers for climatic structure, main soil groups for soil structure and stream flow accumulation, stream flow length and stream order layers for hydrological *** identify the complex relations among environmental factors in the study area a data reduction method is applied with Principal Component Analysis(PCA). PCA is performed using data of 16 layers from Geographical Information Systems(GIS). PCA analysis reduced 16 dimensions into 5 dimensions containing 75% of the variation in all data. It is also revealed that the topographic structure, mainly altitude, dominates the ecosystems of the Firtina Valley, but it should be considered that the interactions of environmental factors in an ecosystem dynamics are very complex. The ecosystem structure is determined by the environmental factors direct or indirect effects on energy regulation of an ecosystem. Therefore the relationship between topographic elements and other abiotic-biotic elements in the Firtina Valley are important for environmental assessment and sustainability of a protected area, and these effects are explained in this study.

First report of the histopathological effect of electrocautery using on the urethral taste rosea during glans penis injury by incision in rabbits

Palliation of malignant esophageal obstruction and fistulas with self expandable metallic stents

AIM: To evaluate the efficacy of self expandable metallic stents (SEMS) in patients with malignant esophageal obstruction and fistulas. METHODS: SEMS were implanted in the presence of fluoroscopic guidance in patients suffering from advanced and non-resectable esophageal, cardiac and invasive lung cancer between 2002 and 2009. All procedures were performed under conscious sedation. All patients had esophagus obstruction and/or fistula. In all patients who required reintervention, recurrence of dysphagia, hemorrhage, and fistula formation were indications for further endoscopy. Patients' files were scanned retrospectively and the obtained data were analyzed using SPSS 13.0 for Windows. The χ 2 test was used for categorical data and was analysis of variance for noncategorical data. Patients' long-term survival was assessed using the Kaplan-Meier method. RESULTS: Stents were successfully implanted in 90 patients using fluoroscopic guidance. Reasons for stent implantation in these patients were esophageal stricture (77/90, 85.5%), external pressure (8/90, 8.8%) and tracheo-esophageal fistula (5/90, 5.5%). Dysphagia scores (mean ± SD) were 3.37 ± 0.52 before and 0.90 ± 0.43 after stent implantation (P = 0.002). Intermittent, nonmassive hemorrhage due to the erosion caused by the distal end of the stent in the stomach occurred in only one patient who received implementation at cardioesophageal junction. Mean survival following stenting was 134.14 d (95% confidence interval: 94.06-174.21).CONCLUSION: SEMS placement is safe and effective in the palliation of dysphagia in selected patients with malignant esophageal strictures.

String cloud and domain walls with quark matter for a higher dimensional FRW universe in self creation cosmology

In this study, we research a higher dimensional flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker（FRW） universe in Barber＇s second theory when strange quark matter（SQM） and normal matter（NM） are attached to the string cloud and domain walls. We obtain zero string tension density for this model. We obtain dust quark matter *** result agrees with Kiran and Reddy, Krori et al, Sahoo and Mishra and Reddy. In our solutions the quark matter transforms to other particles over time. We also obtain two different solutions for domain walls with quark and normal matters by using a deceleration parameter. Also, the features of the obtained solutions are discussed and some physical and kinematical quantities are generalized and discussed. Our results are consistent with Y？lmaz,Adcox et al and Back et al in four and five dimensions.

Empirical Model for the Quantitative Prediction of Losses of Radial Fans based on CFD Calculations

In a classical layout process of a fan the quantity of losses is estimated as a sum and expressed in the overall efficiency rote However the characteristic of the pressure rise, the losses and the efficiency rate beside the design point is not known. Against this background a numerical model was developed to calculate quantitative values of occurring losses at radial fan impellers at an early stage in the design process. It allows to estimate the pressure rise and efficiency rate of a given fan geometry at and beside the design point. The physics of losses are described in literature, but obtaining quantitative values is still a challenge. As common in hydraulic theory the losses are calculated with analytic formulas supported by coefficients and efficiency rates, which have to be determined empirically. This paper shows the method how to determine the coefficients for a given radial fan. Therefore a representative radial fan with backward curved blades was designed in reference to classical design guidelines. Performance measuring was done conform to ISO 5801. The flow was calculated at 8 different operation points using CFD methods. The RANS equations are solved by using the SST-k-omega turbulence model. The flow do- main consists of one blade section including inlet channel and outflow chamber. Spatial discretization is done by a block-structured mesh of approx. 1.8 million cells. Performance data show a very good agreement between measurement and calculation.

Microstructural analysis of EN-GJS-450-10 ductile cast iron via vibrational casting

EN-GJS-450-10 ductile cast iron was produced with and without vibration to evaluate microstructural features. To investigate the effect of vibration, a reference, and two different castings having amplitudes of 0.9 mm and 1.8 mm were cast with a fixed vibration frequency of 50 Hz. The nodule count (density), form (type), size distribution, nodularity, and the fraction of graphite, percentages of both ferrite and pearlite phases, length of ferrite shell, and pore, were evaluated via optical microscopy using an image analysis software. It is observed that the microstructure of the cast iron is more uniform by vibrational casting than that by non-vibrational casting. Additionally, mechanical vibration enhances nodule count and nodularity, also, more ferritic matrix could be obtained after the application of vibration. Nodule count and nodularity of vibrational casting with 1.8 mm amplitude increased from 226 nodule per mm2 and 80% to 311 nodule per mm2 and 86.5% of non-vibrational casting. Percentages of ferrite and graphite area dramatically improved from 24% and 16.5% for non-vibrational casting to 57% and 22.3% for vibrational casting with 1.8 mm amplitude, whereas the percentages of pearlite and pores decreased significantly from 56.1% and 5% to 20% and 1%, respectively.

Investigations on the Flow Field in an Unshrouded Pump Impeller Geometry

Transient CFD simulations are performed to investigate the flow behaviour inside an unshrouded pump using the SAS method. Two blade designs are compared at two different tip clearances and the results are validated by measurements. The detected vortex structure is visualized by the normalized helicity, further discussed regarding its development and behaviour and finally implicated to the efficiency of the two different blade designs.

Identifying disaster-related tweets and their semantic,spatial and temporal context using deep learning,natural language processing and spatial analysis:a case study of Hurricane Irma

We introduce an analytical framework for analyzing tweets to(1)identify and categorize fine-grained details about a disaster such as affected individuals,damaged infrastructure and disrupted services;(2)distinguish impact areas and time periods,and relative prominence of each category of disaster-related information across space and *** first identify disaster-related tweets by generating a human-labeled training dataset and experimenting a series of deep learning and machine learning methods for a binary classification of *** employ LSTM(Long Short-Term Memory)networks for the classification task because LSTM networks outperform other methods by considering the whole text structure using long-term semantic word and feature ***,we employ an unsupervised multi-label classification of tweets using Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA),and identify latent categories of tweets such as affected individuals and disrupted ***,we employ spatiallyadaptive kernel smoothing and density-based spatial clustering to identify the relative prominence and impact areas for each information category,*** Hurricane Irma as a case study,we analyze over 500 million keyword-based and geo-located collection of tweets before,during and after the *** results highlight potential areas with high density of affected individuals and infrastructure damage throughout the temporal progression of the disaster.

Frailty significantly impairs the short term prognosis in elderly patients with heart failure

Background Frailty is a condition of elderly characterized by increased vulnerability to stressful events with high risk of adverse outcomes. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the association between frailty and adverse outcomes including death and hospitalization due to heart failure in elderly patients. Methods We included patients aged ≥ 65 years with the diagnosis of heart failure. The clinical and laboratory data, echocardiography and ECGs were recorded. Additionally, the frailty scores of the patients were evaluated according to Canadian Study of Health and Aging. All the patients were divided as frail or non-frail. The groups were compared for their characteristics and the occurrence of clinical outcomes. Results We included 86 eligible patients. The median follow-up time was four months. The mean age was 75 ± 6.5 years. Of these 86 patients, 17 (19.7%) patients encountered an event (death and/or hospitalization). Nine patients (10.4%) died during follow-up. Thirty patients (34.9%) were considered frail. Among the demographic, clinical and laboratory data, only total protein and albumin levels were found to be lower in frail patients (total protein level: 6.8 ± 0.6 g/dL in non-frails, 6.5 ± 0.9 g/dL in frails, P = 0.05;albumin level: 3.8 ± 0.4 g/dL in non-frails, 3.4 ± 0.6 g/dL in frails, P = 0.001). In multivariate analysis, frailty was found to be strongly associated with clinical outcomes in short term. Conclusions Being frail in an elderly heart failure patient is associated with death and/or hospitalization due to heart failure in short term. Therefore, frailty score should be evaluated for all elderly heart failure patients as a prognostic marker.
