Objective:To identify the clinical characteristics and outcomes of hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infection during the vaccination period nationwide in ***:COVID-19 patients followed in the pandemic services across Turkey between January 1,2021,and March 31,2022 were investigated *** COVID-19 was defined as a patient neither diagnosed with COVID-19 nor suspected COVID-19 at the hospital admission and was confirmed COVID-19≥5 days after hospital *** primary outcome of this study was in-hospital mortality;demographic features and vaccination status was compared between survivors and ***:During the study period,15573 COVID-19 patients were followed in 18 centers and 543(3.5%)patients were nosocomial *** patients with nosocomial COVID-19(80.4%)were transferred from medical wards.162(29.8%)of the patients with nosocomial COVID-19 admitted to the intensive care unit due to disease severity and 138(25.4%)of the patients died during hospital *** age(≥65 years)and number of comorbid diseases(≥2)was found to be associated with mortality in nosocomial COVID-19(OR 1.74,95%CI 1.11-2.74 and OR 1.60,95%CI 1.02-2.56,respectively).Vaccination was associated with survival in nosocomial COVID-19(OR 0.25,95%CI 0.16-0.38).Conclusions:Patients with nosocomial COVID-19 had increased admission to intensive care units and higher mortality *** can decrease the in-hospital mortality rate.

AIM:To evaluate the efficacy of custom-made soft keratoconus(KC)lenses on corneal aberrations and photic phenomena in two different optical zones in patients with ***:Sixty eyes of 42 patients with KC were examined at baseline and after fitting HydroCone(Toris K)soft silicone hydrogel *** spectacle-corrected visual acuity(BSCVA)and contact lens-corrected visual acuity(CLCVA)were ***-and higher-order corneal aberrations(LOAs and HOAs)were measured with and without Toris K lenses and compared in central 4.5 mm and 7 mm *** pupil diameter and subjective photic phenomena were also ***:Mean CLCVA was significantly improved compared to BSCVA(P6.00 mm(85.7%).CONCLUSION:Toris K lenses provide good visual results and a significant reduction in central corneal aberrations in patients with KC but could cause an increase in peripheral *** practical and nonsurgical approach appears to be an effective method for the visual management of KC.

The apoptotic effect of ozone therapy on mitochondrial activity of highly metastatic breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231 using in vitro approaches

Ozone(O) gas is the triatomic state of oxygen and it is used as a disinfection agent due to its strong oxidizing effect, since its discovery in the mid-nineteenth century. Ozone therapy is also an alternative therapeutic approach for some diseases like circulatory disorders, AIDS, asthma, cardiovascular diseases, and certain types of cancer by increasing the oxygen levels in the blood by external addition of ozone to the body. In this study, the therapeutic potential of ozone therapy was examined by inhibiting the growth of breast cancer cells in a dose-dependent procedure. Ozone concentrations varying from 5 to 20 μg/ml were applied to the MDA-MB-231, human breast adenocarcinoma and HUVEC, human umbilical vein endothelium, cell lines, and MDA cells demonstrated an increased rate of death while its migration potential decreases. RT-PCR analysis showed mRNA expression levels of pro-apoptotic genes demonstrated higher folds in MDA cells after 10 μg/ml treatment. In the same context,Annexin V/PI and cell cycle analysis also concluded that ozone therapy causes apoptotic cell death on breast tumor cells. The use of ozone therapy for cancer treatment requires further and extensive research. However, this research has shown that ozone therapy is a promising source for cancer treatment in a way by inhibiting the proliferation of breast tumor cells.

Modeling aggregate size distribution of eroded sediment resulting from rain-splash and raindrop impacted flow processes

Soil susceptibility to detachment and transport sub-processes of erosion is generally controled by the aggregate breakdown *** particle size and aggregation to the estimate erodibility potential of soils is important under erosive rainfall *** Aggregate Size Distribution（ASD）is one of the most important determinants of soil structure along with soil organic matter content for describing the efficiency of applied,sustainable management *** study aimed to compare the performances of three different aggregate size distribution models to predict the characteristic aggregate size parameter(median diameter,D50)for eroded sediment from interrill erosion processes of RainSplash Transport（RST）and Raindrop Impacted Flow Transport（RIFT）.The ASDs of 1143 collected sediment samples from the RST and RIFT processes were measured and modeled by the Log-normal,Fractal,and Weibull *** D50value,as a characteristic parameter for aggregate size distributions,derived from the cumulative ASD curve was compared for soils from different land use types and different slope and rainfall intensity *** performance of each model was evaluated using the Mean Square Error（MSE）and Coefficient of Determination（R2）.The Weibull approach was the most accurate model showing the best fit with the lowest MSE values（0.0002≤MSE≤0.0048）and having the greatest R2values（0.936≤R2≤0.998）when compared with the Log-normal and Fractal ***,for semi-arid land use and soil,specific shape and scale parameters for the Weibull distribution,the respective ASDs were successfully re-generated for modeling the eroded sediment of the simulated RST and RIFT interill processes.

Removal of astrazon golden yellow 7GL from colored wastewater using chemically modified clay

Chemically modified clay(CMC) was used as an adsorbent for the removal of Astrazon Golden Yellow 7GL(AGY-7GL), which is a basic dye from wastewater. For this purpose, the chemically modified clay was first characterized by determining zero point of charge(p Hzpc), and using BET, SEM and FTIR. Then effects of operational parameters on adsorption of AGY-7GL were studied in a batch system. The effect of various parameters such as contact time(0-180 min), pH(2-8), temperature(293-323 K), CMC concentration(0.075-0.5 mg/L) and initial AGY-7GL concentration(75-250 mg/L) were investigated on the adsorption efficiency and capacity adsorption of CMC for the removal of AGY-7GL. Thermodynamic and kinetic parameters were calculated from the results of the adsorption experiment. The evaluation of kinetic models shows that this data best fits the pseudo-second-order model. It is determined that the adsorption equilibrium data works very well with the nonlinear Freundlich isotherm model. Thermodynamic parameters such as ?H^0(19.0 k J/mol), ?G^0(-28.8 k J/mol) and ?S^0(0.148 k J/mol) were also determined. According to the experimental results, it is concluded that CMC could be used as an alternative low cost potential adsorbent for the removal of AGY-7GL from wastewater.

Evaluation of dry eye disease in newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients using anterior segment optical coherence tomography

Background:We aimed to evaluate dry eye diseases(DED)in patients with newly diagnosed depression and anxiety ***:Forty newly diagnosed depression,35 anxiety patients,and 37 controls without any history of taking psychiatric drugs(or before the beginning of psychiatric medication)and topical ophthalmic drop use,were included in the *** depression and anxiety diagnoses were performed by an experienced *** depression and anxiety tests were used to measure disease *** film break up time(TBUT),Schirmer’s test,Oxford scores and ocular surface disease index(OSDI)were admiinistered to *** segment optical coherence tomography was used to measure tear meniscus heights(TMH),tear meniscus depths(TMD)and tear meniscus areas(TMA).Results:In anxiety and depression groups,Schirmer’s test(mm)(7.24±6.02,6.58±4.9 and 18.79±4.9 respectively,p<0.05)and TBUT(s)(5.62±3.1,5.6±3.5 and 13.37±1.7 respectively,p<0.05)were significantly lower than control *** addition,OSDI and Oxford scores were significantly higher than *** scores were 28.01±19,30.43±18.49,14.38±8.14 respectively(p=0.002)and Oxford scores were 1.9±0.7,2.1±0.6 and 0.7±0.4 respectively(p=0.001).TMD,TMH and TMA values were significantly lower in anxiety and depression groups compared with control *** between disease inventory scores and dry eye tests were ***:This study showed a relation between DED and newly diagnosed anxiety and depression patients with no history of psychiatric drug *** presence of correlation between dry eye tests and disease inventory scores strengthens this *** is an important knowledge that need to be evaluated in these patients before starting psychiatric medication.

Impact cratering is one of the fundamental processes in the formation of the Earth and our planetary system, as reflected, for example in the surfaces of Mars and the Moon. The Earth has been covered by a comparable number of impact scars, but due to active geological processes, weathering, sea floor spreading etc, the number of preserved and recognized impact craters on the Earth are limited. The study of impact structures is consequently of great importance in our understanding of the formation of the Earth and the planets, and one way we directly, on the Earth, can study planetary geology. The Nordic-Baltic area have about thirty confirmed impact structures which makes it one of the most densely crater populated terrains on Earth. The high density of identified craters is due to the level of research activity, coupled with a deterministic view of what we look for. In spite of these results, many Nordic structures are poorly understood due to the lack of 3D-geophysical interpretations, isotopeor other dating efforts and better knowledge of the amount of erosion and subsequent tectonic modifications. The Nordic and Baltic impact community is closely collaborating in several impact-related projects and the many researchers (about forty) and PhD students (some seventeen) promise that this level will continue for many more years. The main topics of research include geological, geophysical, and geochemical studies in combination with modeling and impact experiments. Moreover, the Nordic and Baltic crust contains some hundred suspect structures which call for detailed analysis to define their origin. New advanced methods of analyzing geophysical information in combination with detailed geochemical analyses and numerical modeling will be the future basic occupation of the impact scientists of the region. The unique Cretaceous/Tertiary boundary (K-T) occurrences in Denmark form an important source of information in explaining one of the major mass extinctions on Earth.

＜正＞ Estrogen and HDL （High-Density Lipoprotein） have previously been reported to exert both endotheliumdependent and independent relaxations in various animal arteries. The present study examined the effect of HDL preincubation on the en-dothelial relaxation to 17beta-estradiol in aorta from male rats. Isometric tension was recorded in isolated aortic rings. Superoxide production was measured by lu-cigenin-enhanced chemiluminescence. 17beta-estradiol produced marked relaxation starting physiologically relevant concentrations （1 nM） in aortic rings with endothelium. HDL （0.001-0.3 ug/ml） also induced concentrationdependent relaxations in aortic rings. Preincubation with HDL （0.01,0.03 ug/ml） selectively inhibited endothelium-dependent relaxation to 17beta-estradiol because endotheli-um-independent relaxations to 17betaestradiol and sodium nitroprusside were not decreased in the presence of HDL. Parallelly,HDL preincubation provoked vascular superoxide production in the presence of 17beta-estradiol in aortic rings with endothelium. HDL can inhibit endothelium-dependent relaxation to 17beta-estradiol by increasing endothelial superoxide production in rat aorta.
