Momordica charantia (MC) a traditional medicine used for the treatment of many disorders was fed to streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic male Wistar rats at 2, 5 and 10% of the standard diet. Rats were then observed for 12 weeks before sacrificed. Immediately, tissues from liver, kidney and pancreas were taken for histopathological examination. Serum samples were analyzed to evaluate liver, kidney and pancreatic functions. In addition, blood samples were collected to analyze hematology parameters. The results of the present study indicate that oral doses of MC at 5% and 10% of the daily diet resulted in alleviation of the pancreatic, hepatic and renal dysfunction induced by diabetes. The improved pancreatic, hepatic and renal functions were judged by histopathological, hematological and serobiochemical parameters. In conclusion, the MC fruits may be used as an antidiabetic herbal medicine.

Gross and Microscopic Lesions of the Ovaries of Camels from Abattoirs in Eastern Province of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

In the present investigation, gross and microscopic lesions of the ovaries were studied in two hundred and ten (210) adult non-pregnant she-camels. Fresh samples of ovaries were collected from she-camels at the point of slaughter in Al-Ahsa abattoir, Eastern region of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. These samples were subjected to histopathological studies and stained by routine Hematoxylin and Eosin stain. Grossly, of the 210 ovarian tissues examined, 30 (14.28%) had ovarian lesions of one type or another, whereas 180 (85.71%) camels were apparently healthy. Only 6 (2.85%) ovaries showed unilateral ovarian hypoplasia, whereas 4 (1.9%) showed bilateral ovarian hypoplasia. Cystic ovaries were observed in a total of 13 of the collected samples of ovaries, of these 8 (3.8%) were diagnosed as follicular cystic ovaries, while 5 (2.38%) were luteal cystic ovaries. Ovarian abscess appeared in only one sample of the collected ovaries. While ovarian tumors were observed in a total of 6 of the collected samples distributed as, two fibromas, three dermoid cysts, and only one hemangioma. The present study indicates that follicular cysts, luteal cysts and ovarian hypoplasia were the most common ovarian disorders in non-pregnant she-camels in Al-Ahsa region of the Eastern Province of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

We investigate the formation distance(R0)from the center of the radioactive parent nucleus at which the emitted cluster is most probably *** calculations are performed microscopically starting with the solution to the time-independent Schr?dinger wave equation for the cluster-core system,using nuclear potentials based on the Skyrme-SLy4 nucleon-nucleon interactions and folding Coulomb potential,to determine the incident and transmitted wave functions of the *** results show that the emitted cluster is mostly formed in the pre-surface region of the nucleus,under the effect of Pauli blocking from the saturated core *** deeperα-formation distance inside the nucleus allows less preformation probability and indicates a more stable nucleus for a longer ***,theα-particle tends to be formed at a slightly deeper region inside the nuclei,with larger isospin asymmetry,and in the closed shell *** the heavy clusters,we observed that the formation distance of the emitted clusters heavier thanα-particle increased via increasing the isospin asymmetry of the formed cluster rather than by increasing its mass *** partial half-life of a certain cluster-decay mode increased with increase of either the mass number or the isospin asymmetry of the emitted cluster.

We study the impact of the nuclear symmetry energy and its density dependence on the α-decay *** the framework of the preformed cluster model and the energy density formalism, we use different parameterizations of the Skyrme energy density functionals that yield different equations of state（EOS）. Each EOS is characterized by a particular symmetryenergy coefficient（asym） and a corresponding density-slope parameter L. The stepwise trends of the neutron（proton） skin thickness of the involved nuclei with both asym and L do not clarify the oscillating behaviors of the α-decay half-life Tα with these quantities. We find that the change of the skin thickness after α-decay satisfactorily explains these behaviors. The presented results provide constraints on asym centered around an optimum value asym = 32 MeV, and on L between 41 and 57 MeV. These values of asym and L, which indicate larger reduction of the proton-skin thickness and less increase in the neutron-skin thickness after an α-decay,yield a minimum calculated half-life with the same extracted value of the α-preformation factor inside the parent nucleus.

We investigate the effect of proton-skin thickness on the α decay process. We consider 188 neutrondeficient nuclei belonging to the isotopic chains from Te（Z = 52） to Pb（Z = 82）. The calculations of the half-life are carried out in the framework of the preformed cluster model, with the Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin penetration probability and assault frequency. It is shown that the proton-skin thickness（？p） of the daughter nucleus gives rise to a total α-daughter nucleus interaction potential of relatively wide deep internal pocket and a thinner Coulomb barrier of less height. This increases the penetration probability but decreases the assault frequency. The overall impact of the proton-skin thickness appears as a decrease in the decay half-life. The proton-skin thickness decreases the stability of the nucleus. The half-lives of the proton-skinned isotopes along the isotopic chain decrease exponentially with increasing the proton-skin thickness, whereas the Qα-value increases with ？p. α-decay manifests itself as the second favorite decay mode of neutron-deficient nuclei, next to the β＋-decay and before proton-decay. It is indicated as main, competing, and minor decay mode, at 21%, 7%, and 57%, respectively, of the investigated nuclei.

A Unified Computational Method for Simulating Dynamic Behavior of Planing Vessels

High speed planing hulls have complex hydrodynamic behaviors. The trim angle and drafts are very sensitive to speed and location of the center of gravity. Therefore, motion simulation for such vessels needs a strong coupling between rigid body motions and hydrodynamic analysis. In addition, free surface should be predicted with good accuracy for each time step. In this paper, velocity and pressure fields are coupled by use of the fractional step method. On the basis of in- tegration of the two-phase viscous flow induced stresses over the hull, acting loads （forces and moments） are calculated. With the strategy of boundary-fitted body-attached mesh and calculation of 6-DoF motions in each time step, time history of ship motions including displacements, speeds and accelerations are evaluated. For the demonstration of the software capabilities, circular cylinder slamming is simulated as a simple type of water slamming. Then, a high-speed planing catamaran is investigated in the case of steady forward motion. All of the results are in good concordance with experimental data. The present method can be widely implemented in design as well as in the performance prediction of high-speed vessels.

Compliant offshore structures are used for oil exploitation in deep water. Tension leg platform (TLP) is a suitable type for very deep water. The nonlinear dynamic response of TLP under random sea wave load is necessary for determining the maximum deformations and stresses. Accurate and reliable responses are needed for optimum design and control of the structure. In this paper nonlinear dynamic analysis of TLP is carried out in both time and frequency domains. The time history of random wave is generated based on Pierson-Moskowitz spectrum and acts on the structure in arbitrary direction. The hydrodynamic forces are calculated using the modified Morison equation according to Airy’s linear wave theory. The power spectral densities (PSDs) of displacements, velocities and accelerations are calculated from nonlinear responses. The focus of the paper is on the comprehen-sive interpretation of the responses of the structure related to wave excitation and structural characteristics. As an example a case study is investigated and numerical results are discussed.

The paper contains the results of an experimental study on a planing catamaran. The aim of this study is resistance reduction with application of foils. Experiments are performed in different conditions and the results are compared with each other. The foils are used in different configurations and it is concluded that unsuitable design may result in larger resistance. But, it is also shown that, for a good design, the resistance may be reduced considerably.
