Melatonin is a versatile indolamine synthesized and secreted by the pineal gland in response to the photoperiodic information received by the retinohypothalamic signaling *** has many benefits,such as organizing circadian rhythms and acting as a powerful *** aimed to show the antitumor effects of melatonin in both in vivo and in vitro models through the mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR)signaling pathway and the Argyrophilic nucleolar Regulatory Region(AgnOR),using the Microcomputed Tomography(Micro CT).Ehrlich ascites carcinoma(EAC)cells were administered into the mice by subcutaneous *** with solid tumors were injected intraperitoneally with 50 and 100 mg/kg melatonin for 14 *** measurements for the taken tumors were made with micro-CT imaging,immunohistochemistry(IHC),real-time polymerase chain reaction(PCR)and ***,the tumor tissue volume in the Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin group was significantly lower than that in the other groups in the data obtained from micro-CT *** the IHC analysis,the groups treated with Tumor+100 mg/kg melatonin were compared when the mTOR signaling pathway and factor 8(F8)expression were compared with the control *** was determined that there was a significant decrease(pnificant differences were found in the total AgnOR area/nuclear area(TAA/nA)ratio in the treatment groups(pnificant differences between the amount of mTOR mRnA for the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K),AKT Serine/Threonine Kinase(PKB/AKT)genes(pnnexin V in an in vitro study with different doses of melatonin;It was observed that 100µg/mL melatonin dose caused an increase in the apoptotic cell *** this study,we have reported anti-tumor effects of melatonin in cell culture studies as well as in mice *** characterization of the melatonin-mediated cancer inhibitory effects will be valuable in advanc

TO THE EDITOR Bitter gourd （Momordica charantia）, has received widespread attention in the scientific community due to its beneficial effects, including anti-diabetic, anti-cancer and anti- inflammatory effects in laboratory studies. However, a well-defined mechanism by which this important plant food exerts its beneficial effects has not been elucidated. We present some of the latest findings on the plant＇s effects against colon cancer.

Articular cartilage,which is exposed to continuous repetitive compressive stress,has limited self-healing capacity in the case of ***,it is crucial to develop new treatment options for the effective regeneration of the cartilage *** cellular therapy treatment options are microfracture and autologous chondrocyte implantation;however,these treatments induce the formation of fibrous cartilage,which degenerates over time,rather than functional hyaline cartilage *** engineering studies using biodegradable scaffolds and autologous cells are vital for developing an effective long-term treatment option.3D scaffolds composed of glycosaminoglycan-like peptide nanofibers are synthetic,bioactive,biocompatible,and biodegradable and trigger cell-cell interactions that enhance chondrogenic differentiation of cells without using any growth *** showed differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells into chondrocytes in both 2D and 3D culture,which produce a functional cartilage extracellular matrix,employing bioactive cues integrated into the peptide nanofiber scaffold without adding exogenous growth factors.

A series of n-（5-methyl-2-hydroxyphenyl）-（2/3/4/5-substituted）-benzaldimines （I--XlII） were synthesized us- ing appropriate synthetic route. Their structures were characterized by FT-IR, UV-Visible, ESI-MS, 1H- and 13C-nMR spectroscopic techniques and analytical methods. The crystal structure of n-（5-methyl-2-hydroxyphenyl）- 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldimine （XIII） was determined by X-ray diffraction at room temperature. Relationship between the melting points and the structures of the compounds were examined. Antibacterial activities of the compounds were evaluated against Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumo- niae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Proteus mirabilis. Antifungal activities were reported for Candida albieans. Some of the Schiffbases showed considerable antimicrobial activity against S. aureus and C. albicans.

AIM: To evaluate the risk factors leading to recurrence in patients with ocular surface squamous neoplasia(OSSn)METHODS: The records of 112 patients with OSSn who underwent treatment and follow-up between February 1999 and August 2018 were reviewed ***: Totally 67 patients(59.8%) were male and 45 patients(40.2%) were female. The mean age at presentation was 63.7 y(range 22-87 y). Partial lamellar scleroconjunctivectomy(PLSC) was performed in 105(93.7%) cases and enucleation was performed in 7(6.3%) cases due to bulbus invasion as the first step treatment. Treatments used in addition to PLSC included cryotherapy in 78 eyes(74.3%), alcohol epitheliectomy in 57 eyes(54.3%) for presence of corneal involvement, and amniotic membrane transplantation in 17 eyes(16.2%) for ocular surface reconstruction. Topical mitomycin C was used in 10 patients(9.5%) and strontium-90(Str-90) treatment in 4(3.8%) patients because surgical margins were tumor positive at the histopathological examination. Postoperative histopathologic diagnoses were squamous cell carcinoma(52 cases), carcinoma in situ(44 cases), moderate conjunctival intraepithelial neoplasia(11 cases), and mild conjunctiva intraepithelial neoplasia(5 cases). At a mean follow-up of 20.1 mo, tumor recurrence was observed in 21(18.8%) cases. The rate of recurrence was found to be lower in cases that underwent supplemental cryotherapy compared to those that did not(Pno metastasis in any case. COnCLUSIOn: In our series, the recurrence rate is 18.8% and overall globe salvage rate is 90.2% for OSSn at relatively short-term follow-up.

Moebius syndrome is a rare disorder primarily characterized by congenital facial palsy, frequently accompanied by ocular abduction anomalies and occasionally associated with orofacial, limb and musculoskeletal malformations. Abnormal development of cranial nerves Ⅴ through Ⅻ underlines the disease pathogenesis. Although a genetic etiology for Moebius syndrome was proposed, molecular genetic studies to identify the causative gene（s） are scarce. In this study, we selected two candidate genes. One is BASP1 residing in a human chromosome 5p15.1-p15.2, syntenic to mouse chromosome 15qA2-qB2, to which a mouse model with facial nerve anomalies was mapped. The other is transcribed processed pseudogene TPψg-BASP1, which is located on chromosome 13q flanking the putative locus for Moebius syndrome and might be involved in the regulation of the transcripts encoded by BASP1. Mutation analyses in nineteen patients excluded these genes as being candidates for Moebius syndrome.
