Coffee is one of the world most traded agricultural commodities. Currently, a lot of attention has been on Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora Pierre ex A. Froehner) because it seems to evidence a greater tolerance to extreme climatic events than Arabica coffee (C. arabica L.). Despite this, only a few works have been developed aimed at discriminating the climatic vulnerability in regions which prioritize robust coffee production. The aim of this work was to analyze historical climatic variables in space and time for the characterization of climatic vulnerability of micro-regions, in search of mitigation and adaptation, which might support the improvement of production systems of C. canephora coffee trees. The case study was carried out for one of the largest production regions of Robusta coffee of the world, in Brazil, geographically located between the 39°38' and 41°50' West longitude meridians and the 17°52' and 21°19' South latitude parallels. The vulnerability was characterized by the spatial and temporal variation of rainfall and rainfall seasonal pattern (based on 30 years of historical data), elements of climatic water balance, elevation and area planted with Robusta coffee. The choice of mitigation and adaptation were based on widely validated criteria. Overall, the results show that the vulnerability of Robusta coffee is related to low index of rainfall, the rainfall seasonability and the water deficiency. In the studied region, there is approximately 42% of some type of water vulnerability during the year, with a severe to medium scale;this vulnerability is very pronounced in regions farther away from the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, since for a year approximately 92% of them are water deficient. In addition, the data show that this distance from the ocean implies a reduction of 75% in the phases of water surplus not only. Intake,digestibility and nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage and supplemented with protein in the rumen,abomasum,or both

Background： There is little information in the tropics with regard the comparative understanding of how an increased nitrogen supply in the rumen or in the intestines affects efficiency of nitrogen utilization in cattle. This study evaluated the effects of supplementation with nitrogenous compounds in the rumen, abomasum, or both on intake, digestibility and the characteristics of nitrogen utilization in cattle fed tropical forage. Four rumen- and abomasum-fistulated Nellore bulls （227 ± 11 kg） were used. Four treatments were evaluated： control, ruminal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the rumen）, abomasal supplementation （230 g/d of supplemental protein in the abomasum）, and ruminal and abomasal supplementation （115 g/d protein in both the rumen and the abomasum）. The basal forage diet consisted of Tifton 85 hay with a crude protein （CP） level of 78.4 g/kg dry matter. Casein was used as a supplement. The experiment was conducted using a 4 x 4 Latin square. Results： There were no differences between the treatments （P 〉 0.10） with regard to forage intake. The intake and tota digestibility of CP increased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation. The nitrogen balance in the body increased （P 〈 0.01） and muscle protein mobilization decreased （P 〈 0.01） with supplementation, regardless of the supplementation site. The efficiency of nitrogen utilization did not differ among the treatments （P 〉 0.10）. Conclusions： The supplementation of cattle fed tropical forage with protein in the rumen, abomasum, or both similarly increased the nitrogen accretion in animal, which reflects improvements on nitrogen status in animal body.

Optimal velocity functions for car-following models

The integral part of the optimal velocity car-following models is the optimal velocity function (OVF), which can be derived from measured velocity-spacing data. This paper discusses several characteristics of the OVF and presents regression analysis on two classical datasets, the Lincoln and Holland tunnels, with different possible OVFs. The numerical simulation of the formation of traffic congestion is conducted with three different heuristic OVFs, demonstrating that these functions give results similar to those of the famous Bando OVF (Bando et al., 1995). Also an alternative method is present for determining the sensitivity and model parameters based on a single car driving to a fixed barrier.

The RNA Modification N^6-methyladenosine and Its Implications in Human Disease

Impaired gene regulation lies at the heart of many disorders, including developmental diseases and cancer. Furthermore, the molecular pathways that control gene expression are often the target of cellular parasites, such as viruses. Gene expression is controlled through multiple mechanisms that are coordinated to ensure the proper and timely expression of each gene. Many of these mechanisms target the life cycle of the RNA molecule, from transcription to translation. Recently, another layer of regulation at the RNA level involving RNA modifications has gained renewed interest of the scientific community. The discovery that N6-methyladenosine （m6A）, a mod- ification present in mRNAs and long noncoding RNAs, can be removed by the activity of RNA demethylases, launched the field of epitranscriptomics; the study of how RNA function is regulated through the addition or removal of post-transcriptional modifications, similar to strategies used to regulate gene expression at the DNA and protein level. The abundance of RNA post-transcriptional modifications is determined by the activity of writer complexes （methylase） and eraser （RNA demethylase） proteins. Subsequently, the effects of RNA modifications materialize as changes in RNA structure and/or modulation of interactions between the modified RNA and RNA binding proteins or regulatory RNAs. Disruption of these pathways impairs gene expression and cellular function. This review focuses on the links between the RNA modification m6A and its implications in human diseases.

A new species of Atelopus(Amphibia:Bufonidae)from eastern Panama

A new species of the genus Atelopus,Atelopus fronterizo ***.,from eastern Panama is described herein based on molecular,morphological,and bioacoustic *** new species can be distinguished from its congeners occurring in the region by a combination of the following characters:(1)phalangeal reduction in thumb;(2)SVL(females only)(35.1-50.1;n=13),HW/SVL(0.23-0.34;n=59),EYND/HW(0.27-0.39;n=60),TIBL/SVL(0.41-0.56;n=58),and HAL/SVL(0.22-0.28;n=49);(3)dorsal color pattern with green or yellow background and extensive dark olive blotches forming transversal bands or mottling;(4)advertisement call duration 176-235 ms with 19-34 pulses,average pulse rate 131.69 pulses/s,and dominant frequency 2422.50-2606.50 *** new species is nested within the Central American clade of *** minimum Kimura‐2‐parameter(K2P)genetic divergence between Atelopus fronterizo *** its most phylogenetically similar congeners(*** and ***)is>2.6%for 16S and>4.9%for COI(Table 1).The phylogenetic relationship is strongly supported by ultrafast bootstrap values for the maximum-likelihood trees of both genetic markers(16S,96;COI,100,Figure 1A).Bayesian analysis of the concatenated sequences resulted in a tree with similar topology and high posterior probability support(0.99;Supplementary Figure S1).In addition,haplotype networks inferred from COI and 16S(Supplementary Figure S2)showed a well-separated clade containing the new species(two for COI,four for 16S).

Analysis of the Most Likely Regions of Stability of an NCS and Design of the Corresponding Event-driven Controller

In this paper, some issues related to design and analysis of real networked control systems （NCS） under the focus of the most likely region of stability are addressed. Such a system is cumbersome due to its inherent variable time delays, ranging from microseconds to hours. To show the influence of such huge variations in the control performance, a laboratory-scale luminosity system has been setup using the Internet as part of the control loop with dominant time constant in the order of milliseconds. Proportional and integral （PI） control strategies with and without explicit compensation for the time-delay variations were implemented using an event-driven controller. Using the well-known Monte Carlo method and subsequent analyses of time responses, it has been possible to identify the most likely region of stability. Some experimental results show the influence of the statistical parameters of the delays on the determination of the most likely regions of stability of the NCS and how these can be used in assessment and redesign of the control system. The experiments show that much larger delays than one sample period can be supported by real NCSs without becoming unstable.

Machine learning assisted derivation of minimal low-energy models for metallic magnets

We consider the problem of extracting a low-energy spin Hamiltonian from a triangular Kondo Lattice Model(KLM).The non-analytic dependence of the effective spin-spin interactions on the Kondo exchange excludes the use of perturbation theory beyond the second *** then introduce a Machine Learning(ML)assisted protocol to extract effective two-and four-spin *** resulting spin model reproduces the phase diagram of the original KLM as a function of magnetic field and single-ion anisotropy and reveals the effective four-spin interactions that stabilize the field-induced skyrmion crystal ***,this model enables the computation of static and dynamical properties with a much lower numerical cost relative to the original KLM.A comparison of the dynamical spin structure factor in the fully polarized phase computed with both models reveals a good agreement for the magnon dispersion even though this information was not included in the training data set.

Algae(and their extracts)are increasingly important for pharmaceutical applications due to the diversity of useful compounds they *** genus Fucus contains one of the most studied species,Fucus *** species *** differs from the others of the genus by presenting longitudinal air-vesicles and a capacity to survive at low *** is an alga that inhabits the Mondego River estuary(Portugal),at the southern limit of its distribution,and can serve as a role model to understand the effect of a salt gradient on the production of bioactive *** assessed the phenolic content and antioxidant activity of different *** extracts(***,aqueous and polysaccharide)prepared from samples harvested from two different zones to evaluate if the adaptation of *** to different salinity levels influenced its chemical *** antioxidant activity of the extracts was determined using 1,2-diphenyl-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and 2.2-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)(ABTS)*** assays demonstrated that the methanolic extract of lyophilized *** that grew at low salinities was the most bioactive,***(IC 50=50.39μg/mL)and ABTS(TEAC=2.42).The total phenolic content(Folin-Ciocalteu method)and the methanolic extract of the lyophilized *** collected from a low salinity habitat exhibited the highest phenolic content(PGE=49.48μg/mg of lyophilized extract)amongst those *** layer chromatography(TLC)and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR)were used for the identification of compounds in the *** characterization allowed confirmation that the various extracts contained almost the same compounds but with notable quantitative *** on these results,we conclude that there were differences in the quantity of the compounds due to the effect of *** drying methods used were also found to have influenced the quality of the extracted compounds.

Let I be an interval of positive rational numbers. Then the set S （I） = T ∩ N, where T is the submonoid of （Q0＋, ＋） generated by T, is a numerical semigroup. These numerical semigroups are called proportionally modular and can be characterized as the set of integer solutions of a Diophantine inequality of the form ax rood b 〈 cx. In this paper we are interested in the study of the maximal intervals I subject to the condition that S （I） has a given multiplicity. We also characterize the numerical semigroups associated with these maximal intervals.

Impact of microbial self-induced anaerobiosis fermentation(SIAF)on coffee quality

The fermentation of natural(NC)and pulped coffee(PC)was performed with a conventional method(platform)and under self-induced anaerobic fermentation(SIAF).Of the 12 samples analyzed during the fermentation process,the highest temperature was obtained by the SIAF method(30.5℃ for NC and 29.67℃ for PC)with 87 h of *** compounds(36 samples)were evaluated by high-performance liquid *** in the SIAF method contributed to the maximum amount of citric acid(2.534 mg/g)in pulped coffee and acetic acid(6.04 mg/g)and lactic acid(2.533 mg/g)in *** was the primary chemical class detected,followed by ketones and *** coffees(12 samples)were evaluated five times and classified as specialty coffees(>80 points)following Specialty Coffee Association(SCA)*** pulped coffee processed by the SIAF method showed a 2.83-point increase in the sensory score compared to the conventional ***,the SIAF method is accessible to producers,contributes to coffees with differentiated sensory profiles,and increases beverage quality.
